Hey I was wondering how the different mods work like I know what the acronyms mean and stuff (except what a mech mod is) but im not sure which is the best for a beginner in terms of tanks and mods? And also looking for a tank that can handle very thick liquid like thc distillate I was looking at the vaporesso gaurdian and nrg tanks but they dont sell the coils anymore for niether

In the meantime, mtl stands for mouth-to-lung; when you take a draw then hold it in your mouth before inhaling. Dtl is when you draw directly into your lungs.
Devices will either come with built in batteries that are charged directly, or removable batteries that can be charged with a separate charging device.

A mech, or mechanical, mod is just a battery in a tube or a box. There isn't an electronic chip to change the voltage or wattage, or handle a display. A mech also provides none of the 'safeties' that a regulated (or reg) mod does such as polarity protection, atomizer short protection, and some other things. Another aspect of mechs is that they don't put out more than the battery has in it, and only what the battery has in it. A mech mod is basically a flashlight, the light being nicotine..
Sounds like i need something more sophisticated than a mech bc i would definitely blow the thing up!
I found a decent article that does a good job explaining these type of atomizers.
Then, you have your regular tanks that take screw in coils that are ready with wicking inside. I'm using that type right now because I've become really lazy lately and I know where I can readily get more if needed.
