Well, just got my Vamo V5 today from Fairy Gifts, and they sent me White Chrome, when I ordered Stainless Steel. :(

Guess I'll get to see how good their customer service is - I've sent them a message to see how we can resolve this. I was really looking forward to getting the SS. Re-checked my order to make sure I didn't order incorrectly - nope - I clearly ordered SS.

I'm headed off to bed so sorry for the stupid question as I would have done a bit of research beforehand but I also got the SS vamo from Fairy today too. I'm not 100% sure of the differences between the two. I've had both chrome and SS with my 2 different vamos and forget which ones were what and don't remember where I got them from to check. The Chrome is the heavier of the two, finger print magnet, and if you scratch it you will notice because it's built like a police baton. The SS is lighter, no finger prints?

I got the lighter one, no finger prints and is exactly like my V2 so I take it I did get the SS version then? I hope all goes well, it took fairy 5 days to ship it after order, although it was Thursday night (USA) and with time difference, weekends etc etc who knows, but it could be a nightmare dealing with their customer support. BTW is there a warranty with fairy also? 30 days or something like that if it dies on me? I should have waited a bit as I could have gotten it cheaper and going through a NA company chances are probably better for customer support.

Any particular reason why? Since I just replaced the top on my V2 with a new one, it vapes better than when it was new because the new top allows more air flow for some unknown reason. I have a V5 coming for Xmas. Just wondering why you like the V2 better.

Wabbit

It's probably just a personal preference thing. The V5 fire button is somewhat stiff and it makes a distinct clicking noise when depressed. I prefer the SBD (silent but deadly :p) quiet V2 fire button. The V5 firing pin on my unit came to me almost out of reach of the numerous PT IIs I have and requires some fiddling' to get it set again. If I'm outside it is impossible to read the information window on the V5 even if I shade it with my hand. On the V2 the window information is visible even in bright sunlight. There are no new options on the V5 except being able to remove the top collar. As I said it's just personal preference and probably is no big thing to most users.

That's interesting and I guess they failed with the marketing. I thought the V3 was made for females :)

Why? Any Vamo with stones in the collar (which from what I gather was available on the V2 optionally and optionally on the V5) is obviously targeted to women, and the pink Vamos... but I don't see how the V3 fits into that market at all.

Received an e-mail back from Fairy Gift. They've asked me to provide pictures of their packaging and the chrome Vamo and they'll send me out a Stainless Steel and don't require me to send back the Chrome one.

I'll keep you guys posted how it pans out. I will post a review of Fairy Gift in the appropriate forum once we get to a final resolution.

I guess it was a bad joke that didn't go over well here about how she didn't like the rhinestones. Sorry if it offended anybody.

Rabernet check your PM.

Wow sounds like you might have 2 for the price of one. :)

Yes indeedy! And I noticed there are no stones on the Chrome one that I received.

I haven't decided what to do with the Chrome one yet. I have a few co-workers who have been interested in my mods that I use at work that I might pif it to, who are currently on EVOD's but don't have the finances to pull the trigger for something more than that right now for both of them (it's a married couple - so if I can pif one of them it, then they might be able to afford to buy a second for the other one).

Just got my V5 about 20 min ago coming from a V1 then V2. It's exactly the same as the V2 with the body, I think somebody said it has firmer buttons but it's literally the same, which isn't a big deal. Took me a few to figure out the new menu options but basically you set it to watts and then you're good to go. I took out my new AFC then raised the top collar as high as it could go with the AFC to make contact just to be on the safe side of not pushing the pin down. I can't give a great review on it yet (but it seems the same) with vaping but somebody said that the RMS mode is back on the V5???? If that's the case I'm at a loss because I can't find it in the menu or holding down both of the buttons for 10 sec it doesn't switch.

Edit: Figured it out. You hold the left button for 10 sec to switch the mode. Why that function is an option is beyond me but all things are good now and I won't be frying some heads.

Maybe it was age/bat or whatever but I knew that the V2 misfired sometimes. I don't really remember if it started at the start or over time, but testing it out for a while (20 min) no misfires.

I should add that I got it from fairy-gift also. Ordered it on the 10th and got it in MN on the 24th through the $10 USPS option.

I just read this and you made my day!!! I have 2 V3's and the first one has been great. My newer one was making everything taste burnt so I had to set it at 3 watts to make it work, when I am running my first one at 6.5 watts. Well on the new one i held down the - button for 10 seconds and it switched to RMS mode. Now it works just the same as my first one!! I tried doing that on the first V3 but it will not switch back and forth.

Hi all, I just read through the thread to see if anyone has any ideas about the V5 having RMS and Mean modes, I see that on the first post it says RMS mode only but the one I have can be switched back and forth. So is that normal, I mean I don't have one with the wrong chip or something do I? I was also given a Vamo V5 that will not switch between the two output settings, and the person that gave it to me said it was broken but now I don't know if that's the way it should be. I also have people telling me on Facebook that I don't have a V5 if it is switching between RMS and Mean because all the sites they have looked on says this model does not have that option. Please help:)

The threads seem ok to me. I don't use the 510 threads very often though mainly just the eGo threads. The v5 does switch between mean and RMS modes. Yes most places they sell it says in the specs that it only has RMS mode but it does actually have both. Why anyone would ever want to use it in mean is totally beyond me.

What batteries do you all recommend for the v5? I just bought one but have no idea what else I need. Batteries and a charger I know but what are the safe batteries and are all chargers equal? My rainbow spinner died today (I think I actually shed a tear when I realized it stopped working) haha

While I am new here and dont know a whole lot, I posted a very similar question the other day when I was getting my v5.

From the replies I got I went with:

NITECORE Intellicharger i2

Panasonic High Drain NCR18650PF Hybrid 2900mAh Flat Top

Some person just said a few posts up that the flat top bats didn't work for him but hopefully it will work for you. I've had 3 chargers, one a generic, the other (forget) but it is a popular one, but both died. The Nitecore charger is fantastic and would never get anything else.

The i2 charger is a fine choice and used by many, however I'd recommend the XTAR-VP1 as it has some very nice features missing from the i2. It has a built-in volt meter and LCD readout, so you can always see the battery state. Two bays and monitors/charges each separate... also has an adjustable charge rate ... press a button to switch between 250ma, 500ma and 1amp. (It's better to use the lowest setting if you aren't in a hurry. Charges the battery slower, but extends its life.) This charger is very good for people new to buying separate batts because it takes all the guess work out of everything, and eliminates a separate volt meter. Also comes with a car adapter!

I got mine here Xtar VP1 Digital Charger (digital display) for $45 after the applied coupon code of FB10 which takes 10% off the sticker. Free shipping and the website owner is law enforcement and super nice and ships FAST. If you can swing the extra bucks for a superior charger, I'd highly recommend it.

EDIT: In case I didn't explain well enough, after charging batts it is recommended they be checked for their charge state with a volt meter to ensure everything is good. A bad batt won't take a full charge, so that could indicate a problem, and batts with problems can be dangerous. So after charging you're supposed to use a volt meter to check the batt.... pos probe on pos end of batt, neg probe on neg end of batt, and you read the volt meter. A fully charged 3.7v batt should read 4.2v but no more. (Overcharging is bad... reliable chargers will not overcharge.) If it reads 4.1 or 4.2, you're good to go. With the charger I linked to above, you can read the volts of the batt while it's in the charger, so no need to check with a separate meter. Also, it is not good to totally exhaust these batts like you do with a laptop battery. The Vamo will stop firing when they reach 3.2v but I usually take mine out at 3.5 and pop it in the charger... the charger will show the current volts or charge state (e.g. 3.5v), and will continue to show the volts as it charges and they climb to 4.2.

As for batts, the most often recommended are the red AW IMR 2000ma 18650 or the EFEST IMR 2000ma 18650. The "IMR" is a "safe chemistry" batt... they can melt but not explode. You don't want to use "protected batts" in a Vamo. Those are not safe chemistry batts... they are made of stuff that CAN explode, but come with a microchip on the end to protect the user from a short, hence protected batts. They don't play well with the Vamo though, and are not recommended in general b/c they rely on a microchip which could be faulty.

Also beware of sub-par batts branded illegally to appear to be brand name batts. Many veterans here recommend using RTD Vapor for batts as they guarantee the batts are genuine. You don't want to look for the cheapest price when it comes to batts, but the safest battery. Good luck.
