I had been doing research on this for a while and finally decided to try an ecig last week. I bought a joye510 from vaporkings, and while I didn't like the flavor and the stuff was way more nicotine than I'm used to, I was sold.

I decided to try some cartos prefilled with some different flavors. I ordered 4 different flavors at different nicotine levels to get a better sense of what I could vapor regularly without overloading on nicotine. However, after I got the order and tried them out, they all taste very much the same. They all have a very strong rubbery/carmelly taste. I even ordered one control taste, the marlboro type, and it was way different from the cartridge/atomizer one i had gotten originally.

What I am wondering is, is this normal? this rubbery taste? I am trying to quit smoking because I hate the taste and smell, and this isn't much better.

BTW i ordered RY4, kamel, djarem black, VK Red and white, and triple 5. They all taste the same to me.

At first they do all taste similar. What helped for me was to get some very different flavors to help get the taste buds going. I used vanilla (didn't like at first), cherry(loved it), and watermelon (was OK). I think they all helped me get going.

After a month or so a lot of flavors started tasting a lot better. The cherry flavor that I really liked and thought was light and sweet now tastes like cough syrup to me. Now vanilla is my go to flavor with raspberry a close second. I also keep watermelon, cinnamon, and apple going part of the time. The only tobacco flavor I use at all is USA mix and that's just for when I really want a cigarette.

Yeah, many tobacco-ish flavors taste much alike.

Going from a cart to a carto changes the flavor too.

When starting out, your sense of taste is much different than after you've been at it awhile. So, you may want to save them and try later.

Great idea getting different strengths!

Highly recommend trying different flavors. I mean really different. My story is pretty common. Everything I thought I would like, I did not. Things that sounded weird, I liked.

That may be your case too. (I thought most tobacco-ish flavors were more perfume like than actual good tastes.)

You know there is potential, try to find the flavor that works now.

Vape when you can and smoke when you have to. Things will work out if you keep trying.

Thank you guys. I am a light smoker (~6 cigarettes a day), so the nicotine in my system is probably much lower than most people here. I got some high nicotine cartridges with the starter kit I had and I was getting way too much nicotine after just one drag. That was one of the reasons I ordered a bunch of different cartos, i figured it was easier to carry those around for a few days while I got the right levels figured out.

I think "perfumey" is a better term to describe the taste, thank you Hoosier. I am mainly quitting smoking because the taste and smell is getting to a point where it is interfering with my work (I am the only smoker at my company and I feel like others look down on me because of the smell). While I'm willing to suffer some degree of distaste, if this is to become addicting enough for me to be able to stop the analogs, then I will need to find something that I enjoy.

I'm at a bad spot now investment wise. I think I made a good choice with the joye510, but I really like the amount of vapor that the cartos produce compared to the cartridge/atty, and I like the convenience. But I blew $50 on just those carto's I ordered. I just want to avoid sinking alot of money into all these options trying to get it right.

Are there, like, unflavored juices you can get? Or ones that taste like something distinctive that may be a safe bet to try? I know some suggest the menthol ones, but I can't even stand the smell of menthol cigarettes so I don't think that would be a good option for me. I guess I will have to buckle down and shell out some more money for blank cartos and liquid. I just don't want to keep shelling out cash and being disappointed.

I thought the same thing.
I never liked menthol cigarettes, but some menthol carts came with my starter kit that I had no choice in flavors to get.
And Menthol ended up being my favorite flavor.

Ecigs are not the same as tobacco cigs.

I like the way Hoosier said it, flavors I thought I would like turn out not so much. Flavors that sound bad taste good.

You never know.

And don't worry about being stuck with juice you don't like, you can trade it in the Pay It Forward group in Social Groups. That's a great place.

Hope that helps.

Astemus...I also had the same problem...recently ordered from diyflavorshack and Dawn will double the flavor for you. I also wanted tobacco flavors because I wanted it to taste like a cigarette. However, try other flavors...as strange as it sounds grape is very nice. Wouldn't have imagined smoking grape before but I was pleasantly suprised and key lime is wonderful. I would have never thought so. Dawn at diy is very helpful, email her and tell her what you are trying and she will throw in a few samples as well. Good luck

Thanks for your input, all. I sent a request to diyflavorshack, hopefully they have some sort of assortment that I can buy to figure this out. I just don't have the money to buy another box of useless stuff.

This morning I tried one of the flavors I had tried first thing when I got my package, some sort of vanilla carmel thing. It's the only one I can really stand to use, not a fan of caramel but I bought it only because it was the only non-tobacco flavor they had and they had it in very low (6mg) dosage. Unfortunately the 6mg is just a little too weak for me.

I guess all I need to do is find a good place to get blank cartomizers. Is there anything else I will need to get started filling my own cartomizers? Are you able to drip the bottles directly into the cartomizers?

Do a search on you tube for how to fill e-cig cartomizers using the condom method, it is very easy to do, also there are many threads on here about how long they last for most people, the fact that they aren't reall "disposable" etc. You will get a lot of use out of the ones you bought by refilling them and if you don't want to keep all of them you can just trade them, like mentioned above :)

Good luck, don't give up it just takes awhile to aquire your groove, and your taste buds!

Yeah, I hate menthol cigs. I make a juice with menthol that I love. Like I said, try something different.

As mentioned above, condom fill is the way to go.

Finding the right nic level is good. Your whole world changes when you find a flavor that works. That flavor is seldom what you thought it would be.

It seems as if you are doing pretty well. Good first steps. Keep making them and one day you will discover you forgot about smoking.

I reached for a cigarette on friday, and I didn't want to smoke it. That hasn't happened since before I started smoking. It was a great feeling, and it was how I knew I was on the right path. For now, I'm using RY4 flavor until I receive the new juice I ordered. Tonight's project is gonna be trying to clean out some of these tobacco filled cartomizers...
