Hello ECF members, old and new. I've been a vaper for about 7 weeks now and it's been an exciting adventure to the point of obsession. I smoked for 35 years and up to 3 packs a day for the last 4 years or so. I have asthma, 5 kids, a first grandbaby on the way, and the beginnings of other potential health issues.
I started with an EgoT, 12mg/ml nic, vg/pg (not sure of ratio), tobacco flavor. What I found after about 2 weeks was that I really don't like tobacco flavor. Then I began to get vaper's tongue. Hydration didn't help it and since I was getting a bitter flavor (the only flavor I was getting) in my mouth and the whole burnt tongue feeling I came here and google to further my investigation. Many suggested it might be an allergy to PG. I felt it was something to do with nicotine.
Having found a great little vape shop, Denton Vape Shoppe owned by Darin and Michelle, I reduced my liquid to 9mg and got a liquid with no PG. No throat hit whatsoever. Like air. So I then got a liquid of 9mg with pg added back in. After vaping that for a weekend everything got better. My obsession grew. I upgraded my egoT upgrade and a DCT 3ml tank, then the DCT 6ml (got greedy).
After all those minor changes I tried Darin's VMax and was spoiled. I never thought I would EVER want anything larger than my egot. I was sooooo wrong. I bought a VMax and I LOVE it. My only issue now is the whole mouth/tongue thing keeps coming back. I'm planning on reducing nic again since my addiction seems more hand-to-mouth than the actual nic. (I hope) I truly don't want to go back to cigs and hope I can get all this worked out.
I tried to drink flavored waters and I think something in that is making it worse. I'd had a similar problem a few years ago after drinking nestle fruit flavored waters. The mouth/tongue thing is acting more like an allergic reaction as opposed to dehydration.
My questions to ECF members:
1. Your opinion on nic levels and could this be related to the mouth/tongue issues. I think it goes farther than just vaper's tongue. Since it almost immediately went away after I reduced the nic and it was the only think I changed over that weekend.
2. Throat hit...I like a decent/not harsh throat hit. I tend to like the lighter flavors. Honeysuckle, violet...I've been mixing them with a touch of sweet tart and/or key lime, both of which a bit harsher. I love the results.
Sorry this was so long. I tend to rambling. I love your forum and hope to enjoy it, as well as vaping, for years.
