Hey all,

Just picked up this new hobby/habit two days ago, after being introduced by a good friend (and also long - time smoker).

Went to a local vape shop and picked up their recommended "starter kit", two kangertech Evods, and a small collection of juices @ 18ml.

I was a pack of day smoker for nearly ten years, and I'm currently on my ~50th hour cigarette free. Honestly can't remember the last time I went even half a day without a cigarette prior. I'd smoke even when I was sick (I'm sure many can relate). Although I've had the self control to never smoke in the house or most cars I've owned, so I'm not as heavily addicted as some. (vaping in the car/at home has been an enormous joy, no more smoke breaks interrupting a task)

Plan is to slowly progressively dial down the nic content until I'm free from addiction. For now I'm just enjoying the new habit.

Few notes and initial observations:
-I'm only two days "quit" and I've already got some symptoms popping up, not sure if it's the excess vaping or can be attributed to tobacco withdrawal, but I've had a persistent headache for the past day or so, along with a bothersome sore throat.

-lips always feel dry, and I feel a bit dehydrated. I'll attribute this to vaping. Chapsticks have been a must.
I'm drinking more water, so that's a plus.

-Apetite has definitely increased, although I haven't been eating much more. (No complaints, always been skinny. Hoping the stories of gaining weight after quitting smoking happen to me)

-Even in this short period, my breathing has improved a noticable amount. (Even though I've been a vape chimney)

Very excited to be on board with this new habit, along with learning all the intricacies of the various juices, devices etc. Hopefully I'll save money quitting, but I've been at my local vape shop two out of three days since I started. Always have been a "toy guy" (one habit I'll never get out of)

Anyway, looking forward to it.
If anyone has any advice for a newbie, I'd love to hear it.
(Don't worry, I'll be browsing stickies and doing mounds of research)

Thanks!

Welcome and congrats on making the switch! Drinking more water is definitely a must when vaping, it dehydrates you by nature of the vapor production.

The headache could be withdrawal from all the other stuff in cigs, or you may be getting a little too much nic. It's easy to overdo it when you first start. If you feel dizzy or nauseous, put the vaporizer down for a bit.

Welcome, yes be sure to drink lots of water as vaping dehydrates you. The head aches are most likely from withdraw of cigarettes. My advice is don't go to typical smoke shops to get juice, they always seem to cause problems in my opinion. Go to a local vape shop, test juices out. Also be prepared to get way to into this and spend more and more money on cool new things!

The headache and sore throat, along with most of your other symptoms are related to vaping. Vaping is dehydrating, and you must drink PLENTY of water to curb these symptoms.

Increased appetite is due to the normal food cravings most of us quitters get as a form of nic/cigarette withdrawl, also normal.

Make sure to drink plenty of water if you're going to vape, and if all you have is an increased appetite from quitting, consider yourself lucky lol. I turned into a demon woman, and no one could stand to be around me for the first 6 weeks of quitting. I now have to repeat it all over again, because I went back to stinkies almost a year ago, and will be trying vaping again. I enjoyed it, but never found the right gear or juice to really get me hooked. Now that I am using mods and learning to use RDAs I feel much happier with my decision.

Don't give up, find what you can really enjoy, and not all starter kits are the right kits for everyone!

Hi Don! I'm new here, too. Got a friend's old kit to see if vaping agreed with me (I quit smoking in February after a bad asthma attack) and I've been hooked ever since I tried it a few days ago. You're lucky you have a local vape shop. I have a head shop close by, but they're not too knowledgeable about much. I bought a 5 ml bottle of juice for the time being and have ordered some DIY juice supplies in addition to a Kanger EVOD2 kit. There is a Beyond Vape store opening up soon across the street from where I live, so that should be interesting.

I'm getting the dry mouth/lips, too ... chapstick and water :) You're doing it right.

Hi, congrats on quitting and welcome!

Vaping will dehydrate you, so more water is a must!

The sore throat could be from being dry, if drinking more water does not help, check your juice, some people have reactions to PG. you didnt say if it was 100% PG, VG, or a mix like 50/50 PG/VG you'll want to experiment a little to fix the mix that's best for you.

As for the headache, the nic level might be to high for the amount of vaping you do. If you vape a lot try lowering your nic level and see if it helps with the headaches, or vape less often.

And feel free to ask any questions you have! Lots of knowledge and experience on this forum!

Like was said above, probably the biggest improvement to my vaping experience has been spending the extra couple bucks on "gourmet" juices. There are two really great dedicated vape bars by my place, so when it's time to change it up I swing by and spend a half hour or so tasting the flavors. The no-name weird juice and even most of the local vape shops' house juices just can't hold a candle to The Vapor Chef's Honey Pearry (I'm actually salivating thinking about it right now) or Drake's Vapes' Alchemist. I figure if I'm going to vape all day, why not have it be the most delicious thing I can put in my mouth possible.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!
I appreciate the warm welcome.

No headache so far today, all is well on that front. Hard to attribute it to vaping or cigarette withdrawl. I did turn my vape usage down a notch or so to discern the cause.

I've got 4 10ml bottles from my local vape shop I switch between. 3/4 are 18, and one is 16 with 70% VG. (This, combined with the fact it's "Skittles" flavored had moved it to the top of my list.)

I'll be reading the stickies to make sure I've got full comprehension of all the lingo.

Thanks again for all the advice. I'll keep this thread as an "introductory journey" to document my experiences from cigarettes> vape so others who ask about jumping ship can have my subjective experience about making the switch. So far, so well.

Also, the amount of laundry I'm doing has already decreased subatantially. Feeling my lungs coming back is an awesome feeling!
