Hi everyone. I'm really glad to have found this site, I've already found tons of useful info here, and I thought it was time to introduce myself.

So I'm on day 3 of my vaping journey. I have been smoking about half a pack to a pack a day for the last 15 years. I've done quite a bit of research, but just made the move to vaping this past weekend. The local vape shop set me up with an EGo One CT and a couple bottles of juice.

I started with an 8mg/ml tobacco flavour, 50VG/50PG and I didn't like it at all. It tasted terrible to me, and it was quite harsh on my throat. So, switched over to the other juice I got, 6mg/ml, 75VG/25PG Strawberry Zephyr. It was much better tasting, but I'm still getting some harshness in the roof of my mouth and throat, particularly when exhaling, but only some of the time. Sometimes I get a pleasant and comfortable hit, and sometimes not. I don't think they're burnt or dry hits, because the flavour is still there, and the vapor doesn't feel particularly hot in my mouth or while inhaling - just harshness/burning/irritated sensation on the exhale.

I've tried the different coils included in my starter kit, and it seems a little better with the 0.4 ohm titanium coil (constant temp mode, 470 degrees), compared to the default 1.0 ohm non-tc coil (@ 15 watts). I'm planning on trying some different juices this week too, so I'll try a few different VG/PG and nicotine levels to see what works best.

Anyone else have this sort of harshness issue when starting out? Did it go away or get better with time? Any insights would be appreciated!

On the plus side, I'm not smoking! I find myself wanting to vape rather than smoke, even with the harshness, so that's something!

Welcome to the board. Everyone has to sort out that kind of issue when first beginning. Follow your plan to check several juices and ratios and see what happens. Then come back and tell us what you learned and we'll try to help if you haven't fixed it on your own. I worked for months trying to find a good juice, and I never did get there until I started DIY.

Welcome and glad you joined.

Might try the 3 mg. nic strength. 70 or 75VG should be less harsh. Could by a 90 or 100 VG eliquid to see if you have a PG allergy. High PG juices are harsh on some vapers.

If it's harsh when I started it did not improve for me. I just downed the nic strength and up the VG percentage.
Some vendors nicotine is made to be harsh. You might try/taste test different brands of e juice to compare.
I do not sub ohm so your results my vary. Could try building cooler coils and non sub ohm'g.
