New vaper, looking for startup help

So pretty much, I am looking to get off of analogs. Neighbor got lung cancer and everyone that smokes in my family started trying to quit including me. However, i can't quite get over the difference between the vapor and good ol' tobacco smoke. Is this normal at the beginning? Any tips on how to hit it "properly"?

Sincerely,
The flaming chicken

One thing that helped me at the beginning was this article: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-information/337019-inhalation-technique-ecig-vs-cigarette.html.

It is different. Give it a chance, you may come to prefer it the way so many here do. I know I did. Now I find actual cigs to be absolutely awful. Took a month to get where I am now but when I do think of having a regular cig, I kind of recoil now. They're just so bad in comparison.

If you like vapor, which I do, you'll probably want to try liquids with more VG. The two base liquids are PG and VG. PG is generally known for producing more flavor and "throat hit" while VG is known more for the vapor production. I use either 50/50 mixes or 100% VG most times.

Takes a bit of experimenting but you can get the "hang of it" fairly quickly and produce vapor like crazy. If people saw me lately, they'd think I was smoking some kind of funny looking cig I'm getting so much vapor now. But I didn't hit that the first day. Took some trial and error.

And welcome to ECF!

I think of vaping as smoking a good pipe, slow steady draw then inhale to get the tastes and exhale slowly through your nose to get the flavors a second time. You will learn to draw off the VP a certain way to suit your needs.
IMO you can make better smoke rings with vapor than with tobacco smoke.:)

Yeah, like that. Especially the exhale through the nose. I love how you get a... call it an "echo"? of the flavor on the way out. It kind of lingers too. I'm really liking that. :)

Though it did take a bit of adjusting. I never smoked pipes or cigars, just cigs. Had to pay attention to my inhale at first. Didn't take long and turned out very worth it. Now I can't figure out what I ever saw in cigarettes...

@katya
it's an ego-c passthrough with a Vivinova tank with the replaceable coil heads.

@mkbilbo
thanks for the link. i had been trying to use a direct inhale without letting it sit for a while and it was miserable.
Also, what causes the burning in the chest when i do directly inhale? is it just irritation with the particles?

Yeah, first time I tried an ecig, I inhaled like I usually did and just about coughed up a lung. :)

Far as burning, I'm not sure but if I had to guess, I'd bet it's the nicotine. I sometimes get a tingling/burning from high nic liquids such as 24 mg. especially in the nasal passages when I exhale. The nicotine level that works varies from person to person so you may have to experiment to find what works for you.

Definitely avoid trying to inhale into your lungs like regular cigs. With vaping, the nicotine is absorbed in the mouth and nasal passages. That's also how you get the best taste. Lungs don't have taste buds. :)

I learned to slow it all down. Hold the vapor longer (in the mouth), exhale more slowly and through the nose... reminds me more of what I saw cigar and pipe smokers do. Different than cigs but when you find liquids you really like, very much worth the change. It'll feel a lot like smoking but the flavor is so much better!

(Which, by the way, is how I'm avoiding cigs, vaping is so much better.)

Makes sense. I'm at 22mg for nicotine in the juices i have now. I really love the flavors though haha. Tried Holding it then exhaling through the nose, works pretty well and definitely taste it more. I kind of miss the feeling of smoke in my lungs though

Hopefully, that too shall pass.:)

Please bear in mind that most of nicotine absorption from vaping occurs in your mouth, not in your lungs, as is the case with cigarette smoke.

You'll figure it all out in no time! Good luck and happy vaping.

I know what you mean. In fact, I'm not totally "quit" yet. I still break down once in a while. But I'm way down. From up to 2 packs a day to maybe one cig in two days (or three, I did have one today but I think the last one before that was Thursday... I'm not even sure!). I'll take it! :) Long as the time between giving in keeps growing. And it is.

I'm refusing to pressure myself to quit. I'm focusing more on enjoying vaping. The more I like vaping, the less I'm interested in cigs. And that's a case of "less is more". :)

Took me a while to "settle in" too. Though I was able to cut my smoking drastically the first week. I think I broke down today because I don't have enough variety in my liquids. Getting more Monday though.

Takes a little experimenting to find the combination that works for you. But when you start hitting your personal, heh, "sweet spot" I guess? You start to wonder what you ever saw in cigs. Like I said, broke down today and had one. Regretted it. They just aren't as good as vaping and I just don't like them anymore. So while it's taking me time to get completely away from cigs, it looks like their days are numbered...
