Afternoon, everyone!. I'm a bit new to vaping. Started with an ego battery and kanger clearomizer. I love to tinker with things so I decided to make a puck.

Being that I am a bit of a noob, I have a noob question:

I currently have an octopus dual coil RDA on my puck (4.8v). I have tried several different coils but have had no success in getting a decent vape out of it. I've built it both single and dual coils and it always seems to have either a vape with no flavor, tastes like the wick, or dries out my throat (yuck). I've tried dual coils at around 1.5 ohms and single coils from 1.5 ohms to 3.2 ohms. Using a cotton/hemp wick (that I just ran out of) and 30ga Kanthal. I've made sure that the wick is super juicy and saturated before trying. It seems like it can put out some good vapor, but not the right flavor.

What am I doing wrong?

Does it taste burnt? Is it too hot of a vape when you're using it? What is your existing setup now (pictures if you can)? You're pushing 4.8V through a 1.5 Ohm single coil? I would assume that would be pretty hot. Try stepping your voltage down to around 3.7, and step up from there until you get the vape you want.

Also, what kind of airflow are you running across it. If you have adequate airflow at that voltage, you may not need to step it down.

It has tasted burnt with one of my coil setups. Turned the wick black. I forget what ohms I was at at that point. It has been a warm vape, but not too hot. The 1.5ohm coil is on it right now (twisted kanthal), and its not very hot, just dry.

I'm only using the stock air hole in the Octopus (its lined up correctly)

that first pic looks like your coil could be touching the side of your atty chamber. Also, airflow may be a concern here. Also, try beefing up the resistance of your coil. maybe a 2.8 or 3.2 ohm resistance. This is also a fixed voltage device? So you are looking at the only variable here being your coil. Try building a single micro or nano coil and see if your performance levels out to your liking. Another thing to add is that some juices have "sweet spots" where their flavors are best at. You may just be out of range of the "sweet spot" on this flavor... I hope this helps.

Gotcha. I'll try to make a micro coil for it then. Any suggestion on what size drill bit to use to wrap my coil?

Yeah, that first pic looks like a huge coil for such a small RDA. I would steer clear of twisted wire for now, practice with micros, using the 30 gauge, probably a 3/32" drill bit will be your friend to make sure that you get that coil built tight and in front of that air intake for best flavor & vapor.
