New Vaper Questions about E-Liquid.

I have a friend who vapes, and he uses 12-18mg e-liquid. As someone who rarely smokes, I would use nicotine free e-liquid. I tried some of his liquid, and it was really harsh, and I couldn't really taste the flavour. He has an ego setup with semi-cheap clearo's and liquid, but it isn't bad. Will nonic liquid be much smoother, and will the flavours that are advertised from decent sellers be as accurate as they make them out to be? I want to know before I blow £50 on some testers, an eVod setup and a set of coils.
EDIT: I will be buying my first liquids from the alchemists cupboard, the only site in the UK that does nic free 5ml sample packs.

Yes, nic-free is going to have more flavor. I vape 18mg in the morning, and 6/0mg during the day, and I can tell you for sure, lower nic lets you taste the flavor a lot more clearly. Go for a higher PG blend as well, 80/20 PG/VG would be my recommendation, of course if you have a PG allergy you're kinda stuck getting high-VG liquid, but otherwise, PG seems to carry flavor a tiny bit better.

Nicotine has a huge effect on throathit, that harshness you got from their medium/high nic juice may well caused by the nic level you're not used to wrecking your throat.

Generally you're going to get less TH from lower/zero nic juice unless you have something like FlavourART UK's biteXtra. Like Kellycat said, PG tends to carry flavour better, and KerryK is right that VG tends to give more vapour on the exhale.

It's a balance but you'll get it. Alchemists Cupboard is a fantastic place to start, flavourart are also great.
