Hey all,

I recently gave e-cigs a second shot after a ....ty experience with a Blu cig three years ago.

I purchased the Smoktech VV Gripper Mod kit and have been trying to slowly wean my way off of the analogs. After some initial fumbling around, I managed to get the experience I heard most vapers talking about: Nice big throat hits (From 100% VG Tampa... which has really won me over), awesome flavors (Recently got some Ecto-Cooler flavored juice... delicious as hell but really dries my throat out fast). For the first time in my life I am looking forward to not smoking anymore, and that's exciting not just for me, but for my friends and family as well.

Long-winded intro aside, I was wanting to talk to somebody else with a VV Gripper, see if they had any tips to make my experience even better. I'm currently using the standard kit stuff, which isn't bad. But some things concern me (i've got one tank where the juice level never goes down, even after vaping for hours), so talking to somebody experienced would really ease my mind.

Thanks!

I don't own a Gripper, but as long as you can change the voltage, you should be able to get a decent vape with just about any modern device. It's usually the cartomizer/atomizer/tank and juice that you throw onto it. As I'm not familiar with what the Gripper comes with, mind me asking what you're screwing onto it? I've noticed VG tends to dry me out quicker than PG so I always keep some water around.

All the best!

This may be a stupid question; your cartos are slotted or punched for a tank right?

Yeah. Hehehe. It came with a little laser-punched hole in the carto. And the cotton fluff crap on the inside always seems to be saturated. It might be from hitting off of lower voltage this whole time.

I try and vape as much as possible too and like you find that my consumption is very low comparative to what other folks have stated as their ml per day. I use 100% VG and I also use a low voltage as I prefer my vapes cool. (3.4 - 3.8 on an eGo Twist and 2.2-2.4 ohm atties). There's a lot of folk vape at 10/12/14 volts and use 80% PG/20% VG ratio's for example. PG is thinner and possibly evaporates faster with the voltage? Also some folk are better positioned to vape more often (i.e. can vape at work) That's the only things I've come up with as to minimal ml use per day. And then it could simply be Jesus loves us more than them and keeps us topped up.....:D

I have had my Smoktech V.V. Gripper for about 2 months. I use a Provari at home, and the Gripper for outside the house. I chose the Gripper for it easy portability, pocketability, variable voltage, and it shares the same battery that my extended Provari uses.

The V.V. Gripper is notorious for outputting about .5-1v higher voltage than what the user sets. I have found this to be so and adjust my voltage lower by that amount to compensate. PBusardo and Scott found the same to be true in their video reviews:

A PBusardo Review - Smoktech 18650 VV Gripper - YouTube

REVIEW OF THE VV GRIPPER ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE - YouTube

Since the Gripper shares time with the Provari, I get at least two days of use with the AW imr 18650 2000mAh button top batteries. I use 2.5 ohm - 3.0 ohm single coil prepunched cartos in IBTanked pyrex tanks.

I recommend raising your atty resistance to the 2.5 ohm - 3.0 ohm range. The following Safe Vaping Power Chart offers recommended ohm/voltage ratings. Best performance is to stay in the green box areas. Ohms on the left and voltage at the top; draw imaginary lines to the right and down to intersect with each other to the wattage you are vaping at. 8 watts is pretty typical for a satisfying vape.

Another random question:
Do you guys ever prime your 510 DTs with a few drops or is that a no-no?

If by DTs you are talking about cartomizers, heck yes. You can't rely on the hole(s) in the pre-punched carto to wick a dry carto without priming it first. What I do is put a wooden tooth pick into the center air hole to keep unwanted juice from entering it. I then drip juice onto the polyfill by slightly tilting the carto in my hand, and rotating the carto between my fingers to insure all the polyfill gets saturated. Once the polyfill has the appearance of a wet slushy drink, I wait a couple of minutes, and top it off again. Then I remove the tooth pick and place a drip tip on top of the carto.

If you have any further questions, please ask. :vapor:

I use IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us!. I did a review of them here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tank-reviews/349222-ibtanked-pyrex-glass-tanks.html

I have seven of them in my collection, each with their own flavor, and different colored endcaps and drip tips to tell the different flavors apart. These are tough, quality tanks that are surprisingly durable. I've dropped my PVs a few times and they have not cracked. Inexpensive, too - prices start at under $20.

The standard size tanks use a 35mm cartomizer, the Xl size uses the longer 45mm cartos.
