So started vaping today and not had a real cigarette all day, so far so good. The issue I have is the throat hit, it is way too much and I am not sure what it is causing it and what the best course of action is to take to get it right.

My kit is an ego twister (looks like a copy) and a CE5. The twister is set to minimum 3.2V and the coils I have been told are 1.8ohms.

The liquid is a tobacco flavour 18mg.

Would the trick be to try different liquids with different mg strengths and to dilute my current liquid with 0mg to reduce the throat hit?

The taste is fine, its just the throat hit is a little too much. I just bought a few bottles of the same liquid type, should have bought different types to begin with!

The throat hit is caused by the nicotine being absorbed (I think) in your throat. I had the same issues when I started out. Diluting the juice with 0mg should work, or you can cut the guesswork and move down to 12, or even 6 mg juice.

You also get used to it after a while, and some vapers move up in strength because they like the feeling.

Stick with it though! Cigarettes are nasty lol

Yes.

Or reduce the PG/VG ratio (if possible).

Or both.

Nicotine concentration has the most cause/effect of the so-called "throat hit". Consider dropping your nic level.

You didn't mention how many cigs you smoked before. Typical recommendations for nic concentration based on quantity of cigs smoked:

10 cigs a day = 6 mg
20 cigs a day = 12 mg
30 cigs a day = 18 mg
40 cigs a day = 24 mg

Next in line would be the Pg/vg ratio - pg at higher levels can be harsh, and some individuals have a sensitivity or even an allergy to it. It is the flavor carrier and vg is the vapor maker. Vendors who custom-make their e-liquids will offer higher vg or all-vg.

Using too low an ohm rating in the coil can be irritating to the throat & lungs. 1.8 is a little on the low side. You should be able to find coils between 2.0 - 2.5 ohm which will be cooler and less harsh.

Thanks for the input, I am going to try to get hold of some other liquids and some 0mg in the same flavour to see if it makes a difference.

Did you guys feel like you were constantly vaping when you first started? Its not like having a normal cig where you smoke the whole lot in one go. With this I tend to have a couple of tokes put it down and pick it up again after five minutes.

Yes. I used to chain vape all the time, but that's because I was bored. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing though.

Its normal to chain vape when you first start seems like weve all been there. Your going through detox all the poisons leaving your body and it may get a little worse. You have to learn to discipline yourself a little. Baditude definitely gave you the best answer about throat hit.
Hang in there once you find juice you like and get your nicotine level right you will be good to go.

After 3 months of vaping, I am a chain vapor, I also change flavor frequently to avoid vapors tongue. I did find that for me, chain vaping higher nicotine levels made me quite sick after awhile. I don't vape anything over 6 mg now and mostly I am at 0 nic so the chain vaping doesn't make me ill. Just watch for dehydration. As for throat hit, in my experience lower nicotine has less of the throat hit. This does vary from vendor to vendor also.

for me (my guy uses 24mg still and is always having me try to cloud with whatever modification he's made to his set ups and it gives me the bad throat hit, we're using a 50/50 Premium juice mix liquid too) it's too much for me. I'm a noob too, so the experts can tell you better.

Congrats on quitting and welcome!! *waves*

That's quite common, although everyone's experience may differ.

The week that I chose to quit, I vaped as frequently as I wanted (pretty much chain vaped). I still got cravings, so allowed myself half of a cigarette and put it out for the next craving. About 3 - 4 cigs a day. That second half of a cig tasted awful, but that helped me quit. I began to prefer the vape over the cigs. After a week I no longer got cravings for a cigarette and I haven't had one in over two years.

I was a heavy 1 pack per day smoker. I started at 18 mg nic and recently dropped to 6 mg or even 0 mg. It's more the hand-to-mouth addiction and inhale/exhale addiction now and not to the nicotine.
