"Giving arsenic to food animals doesn't seem like a great idea, but it's been going on since the 1940s. Although ostensibly used to fight a parasitic infection, the drug makes chickens grow faster and gives their meat a more attractive color. Roxarsone has FDA approval for all these uses."

Crazy isn't it.

The farmers put a form of arsenic in the feed to get them to grow faster is my understanding. I never knew that until I moved to Arkansas in the Tyson Chicken Capital.

My son thought he would go work one of them factories.... The job lasted all of 2 weeks.
I was happy he did not lose a hand before that.

My uncle has a farm for field dale, 9000 chickens a coop.
he runs 4 on his property. The chickens then go to the factory on truck live to semi live for the last step..
Thats a LOT of chicken poop!!!!

And people wonder why I love my country but don't trust my Government.
It's no wonder there are all kinds of new sicknessess showing up in the world. I grew up on a farm where we butchered our own beef, pork, and chicken, and had a 2 acre garden. Hardly ever bought food and drank water from a spring fed well. I never got sick until after I graduated and joined the Military.

The article said they use that chicken poop with feed for cattle. I love my grilled meat but it's almost enough to make me go vegetarian.

Around here they fertilize the hay fields with chicken poop, some lawns too. Come the end of spring do not drive the roads with your windows down.

A 'liked' post does not mean you've got that number (or that you yourself are even liked). The first person to pick a number gets that number whether it's marked on the board or not. When we 'Like' your picks that means one of the five helpers are marking them on the board. If there are any mistakes/conflicts, we will reply to your post. So check back a while after you pick to see if we noted any problems.

Please do not edit your pick posts.
If someone already took your number, please wait for a helper to post the error. Please "Reply With Quote" to the helper's post with your new pick.

A helper will announce a new round of picks at random times, so check back often and keep track of what round you've already made picks in.

Rounds may last anywhere from 16 seconds to 36 hours based solely on our whim. There are no rules. Life is unfair. Good luck!

We call it a "reset" when we go into a new round. You still keep all of your previous picks. If you miss a round you do not get to back and make up picks. You can only make picks for the current round.

The game ends when the sheet is filled. We then announce the winning pick.

Play to win! There will be no PIFing of number picks. The winner of any contest can PIF the prize if they choose to do so Here.

Theses aren't rules. They are guidance. And they may change at any time. Without prior notice. Maybe even without ensuing notice.

The thing is... labels like "organic" don't mean much either. Arsenic is an organic substance. And according to the USDA, "free range" can mean that the chickens are all kept in one big coop with a gravel floor. Not much of an improvement over the cages.

edit: not all arsenic is organic, but what I meant is that it's a natural substance.
