mine is a singer 401a made in late 50's/early 60's still in mint condition, will just about out do any of the newer type machines.

I was gonna say something similar....the older the machine (if well taken care of) the better it is. I have my grandmother's OLD singer that my aunt swears by...says she has NEVER seen a straighter stitch. I need a new table for it as the one for it broke in transport so we are gonna build a new one from scratch :D

The one I currently use is only about 7 or 8 years old and I spend more time rippin out stitches than actually sewing

Awesome Bare! I have a machine like that one but mine is in a darker wood cabinet, I also have and OLD Singer from either 1936 or 1938 I can't remember, its in my basement resting now. I got a new Brother computerized machine for my birthday last year. My last job was as a seamstress for a awesome company that made pet collars/harnesses and other pet related supplies for those fancy pet boutique stores. It was my favorite job ever, plus we were able to bring our pet with us to the manufacturing warehouse!

I found some old pics of my machines and my old work place. The last picture is one of my Bostons posing for his pictures for the website & the boss lady.
