Not sure how all banks handle hacked accounts, but when one of mine got hit, they cancelled my card and issues a new one with a whole new number. Had another that is strictly for a savings account got hit too a while back and the same thing...new card with new number....this one didn't succeed....they caught the attempt and cancelled immediately.....bittersweet. Went to use the card at an atm and got denied. Didn't know that an attempt was made till I called to find out why it was denied.....the attempt happened that same morning. *sigh*

Kee, have you pulled your reports/scores lately to see iffin the closed accounts had any effect? I read articles @ bankrate.com about how to avoid fallout from a hacked card. Just preemptive info for me 'cause I'm gittin' all paranoid! :)

Cc, are they using the same account number just a new PIN? I was reading (dangerous, I know) that this fiasco could be really detrimental to many who start closing accounts en masse. Some don't realize that closing long-time accounts and opening new ones messes with your FICO .... thus the threat of class action against Target for damages, not only current but for future credit well-being.

Fingers crossed here 'cause it could certainly happen to any of us at any time. :( My accounts are all over 15 years old so I'd hate to have that longevity erased.

/my rant

That aspect of the credit rating system is definitely flawed. The same thing happens if you close an account to reduce your overall available credit even if you don't open up another account. It does not pay to try and be responsible by limiting your borrowing potential but in my opinion, it should.

The account itself didn't close....just the card was a reissue with a new number. I pulled my report not too long ago and didn't see anything on it.

I don't know how these folks could close a cc account with a balance still on it. If they can afford to pay off the balance to close it, why are they using a cc in the first place :laugh:

Holiday Recovery.... this is your game, Richard! :) How ya feelin', buddy? Hope your recoop is progressing quickly.

It is a slow recovery from the last surgery but I am getting there. I lost my appetite and food smelled/tasted bad, but all is swinging to the good side now.

New debit card with all new numbers on it including pin, but same account number and same account at the bank.
