For those here that are rebuilding... if you haven't tried a micro-coil ( or mini-coil )... I'd urge you to try it. Here is a thread discussing them http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...271-micro-coils-increase-vapor-flavor-th.html

In prepping for the Kayfun Lite clone I ordered Friday... I thought I'd better practice up on making the type of coils that I thought I'd go with. All of my previous RDA's and RBA's I'd only used a standard coil with silica wick. At this time, I still prefer silica for a few reasons, ceramic has the cleanest flavor but wicks slow so doesn't work well for me since I often chain vape, SS mesh is ok but I do barely taste the metal and since I vape NET's which require that I clean and dry burn about every 1-1.5ml... cotton doesn't work well on the longer wicks needed for the RBA.

Micro and mini coils are suppose to have another advantage over a standard coil... they don't tend to gunk as quickly and from what I saw tonight... that appears to be holding true for my style of vaping as well since I've vaped now over 1.5ml since making a micro and I'm still going.

A standard coil will have gaps between the wires where the micro/mini coils do not. The difference between the micro and mini are just a matter of size. Basically, the mini is 2mm or larger and the micro is 1.5mm or smaller. I built one mini and two micro's and was surprised that the micro seemed a little easier, perhaps because I built it 2nd ( and 3rd ). You build them on a rod or wire of the size you are trying to shoot for... For those in the USA... a 1/16" rod will get you about 1.5mm and a 3/32" will get you just over 2.38mm. Once you wrap up the coils, you thread the silica wick through them... it's really much easier than I had thought, in fact I can build this way quicker than I can with a standard coil.

I used 10 wraps of 30ga kanthal on both sizes ... on the micro I ended up with 1.9Ω and the mini came in at 2.9Ω. I put the mini coil into an IGO-L RDA and because the ohms was a bit higher than I normally vape... I had to raise my wattage so it didn't take as long to heat up. The micro coils went into a couple of Mini Protanks and this is were I really saw a big performance difference vs the factory coils. On the M-PT's I'm getting a lot more vapor ( which means I'm also going though more e-juice of course ) and much more saturated flavor than the factory coils.

So far, I prefer the micro coils and the 10 wraps is just about perfect for that... if I use a mini coil, I'll be dropping the number of wraps and shoot for around 2-2.2Ω . If the clone lives up to it's hype I've read... and the coils do last long enough before gunking... I may be setting the drippers aside for just testing juices with.

Thank you for your write up on this. I was wondering what this was about and your post clearly explained it.
