Depends on the design. I am gonna have to figure it was an extra safety feature since it did melt and disconnect.....kinda like a hot spring (I'll have to check on that and if that is the case.....it's a sell for me! I've not been impressed with mechanicals in the past so had no desire for one now.....but......... )

Anyway.....You start pulling too much, it protects you from imminent tragedy. There is a reason there is a safety switch in non-mechanical apvs......pulling too many amps is dangerous and should not be taken lightly.

If he's going that low on ohms on a mechanical I sure hope he uses a fuse (other than the wire to the switch).
