V would you like to step in on this one:)

If you insist :)

Going back to DOS days (that scary old word), boot scans basically refer to any type of system level scan that can not be easily done after the operating system has been loaded. The more complex the operating system (like Windows) to more types of scans that must be done during the boot up process of the computer.

A boot scan can be anything from the old disk tool "Scandisk" to registry checkers, antivirus scanners, system error correction software, and spyware/addware removers.

Many of the tools I listed will request to do a "Boot Scan" if the problem(s) found require it. Most of the time the scan can be done before a reboot resulting in a command file that is executed during the next system reboot to fix the problem. With few exceptions this is about all most users will see as the program simply requests a reboot to finish it's job.

Now many system monitoring applications like Avast (antivirus) have an option to start scanning on boot if you feel the need for a deeper level of av checking, usually a good idea if you just removed an infection.

Doing a "Boot Scan" is, in most cases, a holdover term from older versions of PC operating systems and is seldom used by most professionals currently. (my personal observation only)

Thanks V class is out for today you ever think about teaching :)

Have done a bit from time to time but normally prefer the attitude "Those that can DO, those that can't TEACH" :)

No offense to teachers, I have great respect for them, I'm just more of a do-it-myslef type.

To those in need of quality software to maintain their computer systems here is a list of the applications I have come to trust to do the job.

I am a semi retired programmer of well over 30 years experience, I don't claim to know everything and may have fallen behind a bit in the last few years even. With that said here are the tools I have been using on my own system and a number of clients systems for quite a few years with great success.

ALL of these tools are FREE to use or have a free version. I am recommending the free to home user versions as that is all most home users will ever need.

To cleanup temporary files and browser cache. Also allows disabling unwanted start-up & scheduled programs.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Spybot - turning on the advanced features can be a little intimidating to new users but the help files are easy enough to understand for most. This tool is one of my first "Go-To" apps to find and remove spyware.
Overview | Spybot ©

This is my secondary scanner for spyware/malware as there is no such thing as a single scanner that can catch everything, Malwarebytes has been quite good at catching anything that slipped by the other protections on my system.
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Avast has been my main antivirus for quite a few years and has a good track record and a better than average rating compared to even commercial programs.

Zonealarm can be a bit of a nuisance at times but with full control of both incoming and outgoing internet traffic I have been using it for many years quite happily.
ZoneAlarm by Check Point - Award winning PC Protection, Antivirus, Firewall, Anti-Spyware, Identity Protection, and much more.

Nah, I just get all my software from links on pop-up ads and unsolicited emails. :D

Reset

(Game started 6/19 @ 11:00 AM)

As of Thursday 6/20 @ 10:30 AM
9 point restraint and a double dose of happy -- Round #2
Pick 4 numbers from 1-400

Check the board for available numbers:
Link to Gotvapes Game Board!

Colored cells are taken.
Winning number(s) are chosen via Random.org at game end.

The Prize: UDT-v8 30 ml

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = == = = =

A 'liked' post does not mean you've got that number (or that you yourself are even liked). The first person to pick a number gets that number whether it's marked on the board or not. When we 'Like' your picks that means one of the five helpers are marking them on the board. If there are any mistakes/conflicts, we will reply to your post. So check back a while after you pick to see if we noted any problems.

Please do not edit your pick posts.
If someone already took your number, please wait for a helper to post the error. Please "Reply With Quote" to the helper's post with your new pick.

A helper will announce a new round of picks at random times, so check back often and keep track of what round you've already made picks in.

Rounds may last anywhere from 16 seconds to 36 hours based solely on our whim. There are no rules. Life is unfair. Good luck!

We call it a "reset" when we go into a new round. You still keep all of your previous picks. If you miss a round you do not get to back and make up picks. You can only make picks for the current round.

The game ends when the sheet is filled. We then announce the winning pick.

Play to win! There will be no PIFing of number picks. The winner of any contest can PIF the prize if they choose to do so Here.

Theses aren't rules. They are guidance. And they may change at any time. Without prior notice. Maybe even without ensuing notice.
