Hi.
Make wick home is not difficult at all. An old atty 510/801/901 / ... The result is better than the original, very good hit and reliability.

Detailed photo instructions here

This isn't all that bad. Basically, tear down a dead atty for that nickel-foil/mesh/whatever that stuff is wrapping the bridge and use that in a Ego-T as a wick.

I don't want to stir anything up, but I didn't understand anything on that first page or the OP's intent. I've been making my ego -t wick replacements for some time now. It works awesome and better than the original. I bought the silica rope from mcmaster carr, a foot of braided rope #3 for less than 10 shipped. They are located in so cal, so I got it the next day. You could easily make up to 500 wicks using the rope. I don't have mesh, so I literally use Reynolds wrap foil to create the little metal wrap around top hat thing. It's also good because it's sturdy yet you can shape it. I use it so after I wrap the foil around the wick, and place it in the atomizer needle, I take a paper clip end and basically force the foil outward so it sticks closely to the side of the needle plate allowing a sealed wick inside the needle plate and a very consistent juice flow. I've nearly perfected it and taught my brother how to do it as well. Once you get the hang of it, you can make a new wick by hand in less than 2 minutes. There is so much rope, you can practice and get the wick density right. The greatest thing is that you don't have to fiddle with the rope. It's braided and each little braid is the same rope thickness you will need. It's slightly thicker than the stock wick which is great for the consistent juice flow.

If this isn't what this thread is intended for then just consider it a wick solution. I personally refused to buy anything else after I got the ego tank system. I love it, and I can fix any issue with the atomizer so I don't need to worry about anything else. I did just purchase 3 lr ego tank atomizers from good prophets, so we will see how that turns out.

End dissertation... lol :vapor:

I must admit that I am very surprised that you're getting good results from this "mod". The nickel mesh is conductive (electrically)..... and you are placing it in direct contact with the coil... which is also conductive. This is a formula for shorting out a portion of the coil and/or shorting a portion of the coil to "ground" (which is a really good way to kill an eGo battery).

All I can say is: perform at your own risk, and the risk of your atty and battery.

This looks a lot like the genisis atty by Raidy. You might want to check that thread.

I know it very well - and that's how I made this mod.

I don't know, what was the intention od the thread's author, but I wanted to make tank a better thing - as it's not as good as it might be.

Scottbee, in short:
The nickel mesh

Not true. It's a stainless steel, the same thing you have in every atomiser.

is conductive (electrically)..... and you are placing it in direct contact with the coil

Again not true. It's hanging about a milimeter above the coil and the liquid is just dripping on it.

(which is a really good way to kill an eGo battery).

And.... again - not true - if were're talking about a true eGo battery. It's really well protected from the shortage. And I'm not using any rivas or similar.

If you say so. But Joye (and just about everybody else) refers to it as "nickel mesh".

OK... you're right. If it is not touching the coil then you're fine. Of course the original wick DOES touch the coil and I'm surprised that you're getting good results with the air gap between the wicking element and the coil. That's completely inconsistent with the original design intent.

And.... again - not true - if were're talking about a true eGo battery. It's really well protected from the shortage. And I'm not using any rivas or similar.

And here you're just dead wrong. There are a couple of threads on this subject, along with a lot of testing done on my part (I have replaced the MOSFET on dozens of eGo batteries). As has been stated before, the eGo has "good" protection for a true dead short (very close to 0Ω). It has POOR protection for loads that are between ~.4Ω and ~1.1Ω. Loads in this range will destroy the MOSFET just about each and every time. Not a guess.... that's a fact.
