Hi guys and gals, Don't hate on me but i have some basics to try and get sorted.
took some advice from a friend and got me an istick 30w (reviews not required) quit the analogues and certainly prefer the Vape. Started with the Aspire Nautilus, didn't get on great with the Nautilus as i couldn't quench the want for an analogue with it, no deep inhale and no plume of flavorsome vape. took some other advice and purchased the Atlantis V2 (much better) not wanted an analogue since.

I like a high VG 70/30, 60/40 as i seem to have been able to adapt to the nic levels right down to 0.3ml without the crave, I don't bother with higher nicotine levels or care to much for a hard throat hit, in fact i like a smooth flavor full Cloud of vape to lung hit.


Keep reading about the lack of need for sub tanks and coils i'm currently using the 0.5 on the Atlantis but keep reading people are having better luck with 1.5 and 2. Ohm self builds.
not sure i want to get into self builds as yet but keep thinking it would be nice to have a drip for testing new falvours and different mixes.

Keeping it simple I'll ask the questions-

Can i run a dripper on my 30 Istick (genuine)
What would be advisable?
will it give me great plumes of flavour and make me happy?

I'm considering the rDNA 40W s i like the size and quality of the build (reviews required)
would i do better with a dripper on that or stick with what i have?

All simple advice welcome.

Hi Ramsey and welcome to the forum. I'm rather new into the sub ohm coil building (Kanger Subtank Mini) and cannot answer your question. However I have seen and viewed this video and am interested in getting one of these coils builders because they look easier than the two methods I have used. Good luck in your journey. You can certainly put a "dripper" on whatever you want for the most part. Now, an RDA, you have to build your own coils on. But, if you wanna run one on your istick, you certainly can. Build that sucker out to like .8-1 ohm and let her rip. I have a .9 ohm build that I use at 27 watts with most flavors. Before I got one though, if I were you I would familiarize myself with ohms law, and Steam Engine. They will be invaluable tools for you. As for a good RDA for beginners? I'd say a Troll by Wotofo if you want more clouds than flavor, or maybe like an iGo-W or a Stillaire. Good luck my friend!

P.S. The build I am using is a 28AWG dual coil build in my Troll at 11 wraps each around one of the little blue screwdrivers that comes with everything. Works like a dream.

I know you're thinking about a dripper, but my question would be why on Istick 30? You can run a dripper, but consider a mod with a bit more power...maybe up to 60 watts.

Your Atlantis is a great sub ohm tank and the conveniences of running a sub ohm tank got me off drippers for most of the day. I myself, still run a few drippers, but moved over to sub tanks because they give me a great vape without the mess. It's all a matter of preference for everyone. I think you'll find that a higher power mod will make your tank perform even better.

I, personally would go to a reputable, local vape shop and talk with them. This would allow you to get the feel of what a new setup could give you.

Hi, Ramsey, and welcome to ECF. Great job on the conversion to vaping! Here are a couple of thoughts regarding your questions.

Yes, you can use an RDA on your iStick. Whether you get the clouds you like will depend on the atty and the build. I have a Derringer and a Doge, both of which provide great flavor and good clouds, built at .4ohms. Here's the thing, though: learn about Ohms Law before you start building, and follow it religiously. Test your builds before you use them. A regulated mod won't fire if the build is bad (short) or if it can't (not enough power), but it's important to get in the habit of testing.

As I'm sure you know, the advantage to a DNA40 device is temp control. That capability requires a very low resistance wire (Ni200) to work. Ni200 isn't the easiest stuff to build with; it's very soft and has a mind of its own. I wouldn't suggest learning to build with Ni200, but that's just me. You can also look at mods with an SX350J chip, which also has temp control. Some believe they are more reliable. I don't have an opinion, either way. These devices will provide more power, though, which means more cloud capacity.

I think you'll find that a higher power mod will make your tank perform even better.

Definitely true when it comes to the Atlantis v2 coils (and many other subΩ tank/coils). Here's Aspires recommended wattage for these coils.

1. 20-30W (0.5Ω coil)
2. 40-50W (1Ω coil)
3. 70-80W (0.3Ω coil)

Here's the thing, though: learn about Ohms Law before you start building, and follow it religiously. Test your builds before you use them. A regulated mod won't fire if the build is bad (short) or if it can't (not enough power), but it's important to get in the habit of testing.

This is soooo very important. Safety when it comes to your build and understanding your batteries is paramount!!

Though I would take baby steps and learn everything you can before making a huge leap towards temp control mods ( as LittleBird suggested)...that's a totally different game! But come to think of it, you could, IF you got a temp mod with a Kangertech subtank with factory built TC coils. Most TC mods are pretty expensive and you may want to think of that later in the game.

Great news i can run an RDA (i learn names quickly)
after reading through the suggestions and comments so far i think i'm probably better to run the Atlantis 2 on slightly higher wattage and see how that fairs first, im quite content with that for the time being, i'm only buying the other mod (rDNA 40)
so i have a 2nd device laying around with a spare battery. I thought the 40w was a little more power and a nice build. i did read the comment on the SX350j Chip above and have seen other comments about this, what box i end up with next is still open but it has to be a small device as i'm not keen on some of the box mods i have seen (not flaming anything) as they are bigger than a hard pack of cigs. i like compact.

Thanks for the vid on winding coils with the Kuro, should be fine without it, i have an electronics background so familiar with Ohms Law will go find out about steam engine! i did see something about Nickel upgrades for the Atlantis any views on running nickel coils on the RDNA? obviously not on the istick!

Yes. I thought it was a typo when I first saw it but from what others are reporting, it is not.

Ni200 (or Nickel) is really only meant for temp control mods such as the SX350j chip and could damage a mod not designed for it. The ohm you get from Nickel is very low. My builds with it are around 0.06 and would cause a short warning on standard regulated mods.

I started with the same on a Nautilus and it didn't perform and left me frustrated; no flavor after 1 day and the coil heads suck. I quickly picked up a Russian 91%v2 and while the flavor is great the sir flow was a bit low for me. I then bought a dripper (Freakshow) and fell in love with it! I am now rocking a Lemo 2 and a Billow 2 and will never go back to anything with a prebuilt coil. I do have an Atlantis 2 but the flavor is just not there and the darn thing constantly spits juice when I draw on it.

Coil building is pretty easy and there are many guides on the internet. If you have a smartphone get the Steam Engine App (free) and it will help you as far as how many wraps for a certain resistance, etc.

i take it Steam engine is only on android, cant locate it on iphone!?

@GCE, i had the same trouble with the spitting, found if i pre fired for about .5 before i vaped it stopped the spitting!
