New XL manual batts - different?

Have not use manual batts before but since I plan to "empty cart drip" I bought 2 new xl manuals, blue/blue and chrome/orange.

One of the two main reasons for going manual was that they don't have a hole in the top (which is a good thing for dripping). I just pulled em out of the case and yes they are manuals, but they have the hole in the top, what gives?

Is this normal?

I do not have any new manuals but I am sure they are the same as the old. It looks like there is a hole but it is not punched out. They are indeed sealed.

Would you say that the seal is recessed down inside about 1/8"? I can fit a toothpick in there but it does seem to bottom out at that depth.
