First the safe act , now this!

Man, I can't use a firearm, and now I can't even douse an intruder with e-liquid to protect myself.

They will pass it overnight, not let anyone read it, and you'll wake up a criminal. Then they'll pat themselves on the back for saving all the children. After they get done with that, they'll have to do something about all the interstate 'black market' juice crossing the border. Job security.

If they don't want to see juice made in 'back rooms' then this sure is the way to do it. Brilliant.

I want to see all the poisoning data for bleach and other household chemicals and how they compare to the numbers they are proposing for the e-liquid. Then, I'll demand they ban the sale of each and every one of them. I'm not kidding about that. Its all there in black and white under "Justification". Substitute "bleach" for "e-liquid" and it all reads the same. They may want to rethink this precedent. If they want a can-o-worms, they should get it.

Goes to show just how far politicians think things through.

NY has got to be hurting badly, since the very smart NA opened their own cig factories.

Since the state taxed name brands to the moon a few years back, not many smoke those babies around here. The lines are a mile long at the res to get cartons for 40 bucks, tax free. They're good too!

They are going after them now too. I cant find the link now though, darn it. I think I seen it on Yayhoo somewhere, some suit and tie talking head complaining about the tax free status of the NA and cigs and how it wasn't 'fair'.

They found something they can glom onto about e-liquid. I think it shows their desperation. I've seen an increase in the 'poison the children' angle lately.

The authors of S6939 present, as justification for this law, the following:

According to the Syracuse Post Standard, as of March 2014, 651 calls have been made to poison control centers regarding e-liquids, with over half of these calls involving children under 6 years old. It has also been reported that a teaspoon of highly diluted e-liquids can seriously harm or kill a small child....

According to the New York Times, an individual died after injecting e-liquids, and another individual in Kentucky was admitted to the hospital with cardiac problems after her e-cigarette broke and the e-liquid was absorbed through her skin.

While it's good to know our legislators read newspapers (indeed it's good to know that at least some of them know how to read), I ask you, is this the new legislative process: "I read it in the newspaper so let's pass a law"?

Also interesting is this note:

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None

ETA: I sent off my tweets.

Looked up Senator Kemp Hannon.

Copied directly from his site:

“E-liquids are more dangerous than tobacco because the nicotine in liquid form can be absorbed more quickly even when diluted,” said Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Nassau). “Forms of liquid nicotine need to be reviewed and scrutinized more than other tobacco and nicotine products.”

Sen. Kemp Hannon - Sixth District, New York

Anyone feel like bombing him with e-mails, please do so.

Eddited to add:

His contact link isn't working LOL! Can't imagine why.

Nothing about the bill on his Facebook page? Isn't that convienent!

Nassau county peeps, you need to vote his old ... out the door!

Just an Update for everyone asking about comments showing up on the Open States page re: NY

The page moderators work normal business hours (9-5 M-F). It's likely we won't see comment approved until Monday. And given the responses here and elsewhere, it's likely the moderators will have a lot to sift through :)

First line of Defense would be Challenging and breaking apart the False information.
Search, search, search......... Cannot fine ANY e-cig related Nicotine Deaths.

Anyone ever read the Hospitalized person Report? Un, I Repeat - Unproven and not Challenged for verification.
On further questioning, the patient reported that she had been trying to quit smoking for the past 5 to 6 months by using an e-cigarette bought at a local store. After her third episode of paroxysmal AF, she recalled that her use of the e-cigarette had preceded each episode. We did not perform a challenge test for ethical reasons. - See more at: Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Following Electronic Cigarette Use in an Elderly Woman | Clinical Geriatrics

So, should of, could of, might of, of in opinion on safety...........Bla......Bla......Bla........(...... know best what we should of should not be allowed to do)

Lastly - A call to a Poison center Does Not automatically mean anyone was actually poisoned.
Ingestion of a minute amount of something which in a specific or higher PPM may be considered poisonous does NOT imply the person has Been Poisoned. A Poison control center is not allowed to assume Safe/not Safe and only gives information according to Data Sheets.
A visit to a Hospital on the advice of a Poison center does NOT constitute an actual poisoning.

You get the drift To much MAYBE twisted to WAS.:glare:
