Hi all!
So I've been an avid "follower" of this forum for a few months and finally decided to join... because I've got a question for the experienced vapers on here..

I finally decided to get a mechanical mod with a smok RSST a couple of a weeks ago, and I've been very satisfied.. simply because I had my friend build me my coils...
Well, I finally decided to build my own coils, and I've successfully built my first one tonight, but I've got a question (I searched the forum, as well as googled for it)..

So I'm using a mechanical with RSST, as I've mentioned, with IMR 18650 battery. The coil I've built has 1.35 ohms, and I'm just wondering if that's a "safe" set up.. I may be being paranoid, but I did notice the RSST getting a bit hotter than usual, and I know there's rule on voltage of a battery and ohms of a RBA and wattage and etc..

I'm loving the flavor and vapor I'm producing, but I don't want it to be at a cost of jeopardizing my set up or the possibility of "setting .... on fire (as I've read a few members mentioning here with improper mod set ups)"..

I know it's a very common questions many inexperienced vapers ask here, and trust me, I did my research as best as I could, but I feel like I need an assurance from someone who's more experienced.. so I do apologize for this, but I'd really appreciate it if someone can tell me if my set up is okay (or if I should change certain things such as learning how to build a proper coil instead of learning simply from watching bunch of youtube videos).

Thanks in advance, and once again, I do apologize if my question could've been answered from previous posts.

Learn how to use this Ohm's Law Calculator. The resistance will be the measured ohm of your coil, voltage will always be figured with 4.2 volts. Current will be the amps drawn from the battery. This sum should never be more than the amp rating of your battery.

Just saying you have an 18650 IMR battery is not enough information to declare it is safe.

I would not say any generic battery, or any battery with "fire" in the name, as being safe. Use only well-recognized brand name batteries such as in this link:

Some may not agree but I believe there are no such thing as dumb questions. It is always best to ask questions than to assume and unknowingly risk consequences.

Ohm's Law is your friend. Just be sure not to pull more current (amperage) than the battery is capable of handling.

When I first started rebuilding I watched YouTube videos... it didn't take long for me to get angry at the out of focus camera and the poor setup of most YouTube vape videos... "Let's see if it will focus... will it focus... it is focusing... maybe... will it... hmm... lets talk about it even though it is a blurry mess...". I ended up just learning from trial-and-error and using my knowledge of electricity.

Some 18650 batteries have as low as 7amp continuous rating. Just calculate it

Battery mAh & C Rating = amp Calculator
Saw some incorrect information with a couple of battery specifications. The AW 18490 1100mah battery has a 15C rating not 8C (although I've seen both values listed), so it's amp limit is 16.8 and not 8.8 amps. The Panasonic NCR18650B (hybrid) has a 6.8 amp rating, not 3.

Overall good information and useful formula's.

wow! thank you all for the responses! i wasn't expected to get so many pleasant replies.. rather telling me to "search" with sarcastic remarks as seen in other forums.. must be all the vaping that's keeping y'all chill haha

anyway, this is my very first coil. i'm pretty sure it needs improvement but i began worrying and was surprised cus it was working well

Really useful and essential reading for me - being pretty new to vaping and yet to take my first step into mechanical mods. I understand the safety principles, and it seems prior to investing in my first mechanical, I need a multimeter. Just wondered if there was a particular brand/model to invest in that vapers recommend?
