hi there,

I am due to receive my riva 501 starter kit tomorrow and am a bit nervous about whether I will know how to fill the cartridges up properly etc

Are there any guides floating around? I saw the ones on you tube, however are there are any others basically that show from the outset what to do when you get your kit?

Also I have ordered 3 x 5ml ejuices, 2 VG and 1 PG to test which I prefer whether its VG or PG

I am due to go on holiday for a 1 week, do you think 3 x 5ml bottles 24mg each will last? I have 10 empty cartridges with the starter kit, will this be enough to get me through my hols? or should I order another bottle or two for when I return? Do you think I should order a spare atomizer as well?

I usually smoke 18 - 20 benson and hedges a day and have not done so since I started vaping 13 days ago...

Your comments and guidance would be appreciated

Thanks in advance..

P.S. Are there any E juice guides that rate flavours, so I can be a bit more adventurous trying different flavours??

What are you currently vaping? Does it not have cartridges? Cartomizers perhaps? Filling cartridges is fairly simple once you get used to doing it. Pull out the filler inside the cartridge, put in about 5 or 6 drops of liquid, ease the filler back in, then continue to add drops on top of your filler until they stop soaking in. Put a couple of drops in your atomizer, put the cartridge on there and vape. :) Then when you get the "dry hit", take off your cartridge and just add more drops to the filler. You can use these cartridges over and over again and if you're using the same falvor, there's no need to change the filler. If you'd like a new flavor, simply take the filler out, rinse it under hot water, squeeze it dry in a paper towel, fluff it back up. Rinse out your cartridge too, shake out the water, refill like mentioned above.

I have no clue how many ml of liquid you're vaping in a day, but 15ml would only last me about 5 days (if that) and I'm a moderate vaper. If I'm vaping heavy, I can definitley use almost if not all of a 5ml bottle in a day. You might want to take more liquid.

If you have two atomizers, you "should" be fine. A spare never hurts.

There is an eliquid review section here at ECF, but really, you're just going to have to try them to find out if you'll enjoy them. Taste is very subjective.

Best wishes!

thanks for your responses guys, I have ordered alot more juice and 5 spare attys today, should receive them before I go on holiday

Is there a way you can measure how many ml you use? as I am starting out it would be good to get into the habit from the outset? Is there a rule of thumb i.e. 1 drop = x ml?

I received my kit today but have not tried it as I have to wait 8hrs for the batt to charge despite it being green the second I plugged it into the wall charger..Id rather do as recommended esp if means the batt will last longer so patiently counting down the hours

Do you experienced vapers, pre fill cartridges? or when you go out do you just take a bottle of juice instead? are there any disadvantages to prefilling cartridges?

Also including the extra juices I ordered I have 5 flavours and only 10 empty cartridges, how do you ensure you avoid putting the wrong juice in the wrong cartridge?

Also you know people suggest you should drop some juice on the atty as well, what happens if for 5 hrs I am using an apple cartridge so drop some apple juice on the atty then 5hrs later I decide to swap to tobacco flavour, do I put some tobacco juice on the atty? or will this damage the atty?

Do you only recharge the batt when it begins to flash and not before? i.e. after each use...

Finally, I am a tad bit confused about the "proper" way to fill cartridges, some recommend the method as above i.e. take the wool out drop some juice in, put the wool back in and add a bit more juice...whereas others suggest not taking the wool out and simply adding some drops....whats the right way to do things? again as a newb its good to get into the right way from the beginning

Thank you so much for your help and support I will let you guys know my experience with this ecig and juices later this evening after I fire it up

Cheers....

Just had my first play and all I can say is WOW!!!

Great throat hit and great taste, thats with VG Tobacco and Silver 24mg

Quick questions I wonder if you could kindly clear up for me:

- why do I get some juice sometimes coming through the cartridge where I inhale?

- on the charger, do you screw it all the way in so you cannot see any thread? currently my wall adapter has the red and green light on and the usb led is showing red.....have i screwed it in too tight?

I have charged it for 8hrs intially during which time the usb led was constantly green and the wall adaptor just had 1 red light on however the battery wasnt screwed in right to the end so no thread was showing on the battery...did I do it wrong? Now I am going to charge it for another hour...do you screw your battery into the charger until you cannot screw it any further??

It is so great though compared to my greensmoke ecig where I constantly get a mouthful of air even on a new cartridge, that airy feeling is just not there...

if you could help with the above i would be grateful

thanks

I think overfilling can lead to the juice getting into the part of the cart that your inhaling through. With the cart off blow through the hole you'd normally inhale through and then wipe it off.

The charger light is red when charging, green when charged. Screw it in all the way though you don't really have to. You can tell when it starts charging as the light will change red.

I had a sneaky suspicion I may have overfilled it, thanks for the tip...

Re: the charging.....I screwed the batt in tight and the red light on the USB appeared BUT it also appeared on the plug together with a green light. So I had a red light on USB aswell as a red and green light on the wall charger....20mins later the green light on the wall charger has gone leaving me with 1 red light on the USB and 1 red light on the wall charger, is this normal? I only the USB will show green when fully charged...

Finally, I think when I charged it for 8hrs I didnt do it properly as the green light on USB was constantly on and the red light on the wall charger....now after 20mins use thats not the case as stated above....

Im confused, any further assistance would be appreciated

thanks

battery madness sorted, feel like such a newb...got a few more questions hope you can help with?

when I inhale I am finding the throat hit is a killer, my juice is 24mg, is it that my juice is too strong? or am I drawing/pulling to hard? I am trying to find a balance but am struggling...any ideas?

Also if I am using a cartridge with a flavour, then want to try another flavour in another new cartridge can I leave the first cartridge aside with the rubber cap on it? or will it dry up?

thanks for your continued support

When you inhale take slow easy pulls (more like a lefty that a cig), you might also try filling your mouth with vapor then inhaling. If you aren't having over-nicced symptoms then your juice probably isn't too strong, though nicotine does contribute to throat hit.

When switching carts it's perfectly fine to cap it and set it aside.

Someone offered the suggestion to get the little colored elastic bands (don't know what they're called in the UK) that you put on dental braces to put on your carts to keep track of the different juices. Color code the juices. If that makes sense.

yeh thats right i saw that, i believe her username is miss nomad, something or other, i saw her recommend them on a video she did...perhaps its time to indulge

thanks for the reminder.. :)
