Ok, so I'm making the jump from KR808's to the 510 scene with a Riva 510 Special Edition kit from Liberty-Flights. To save you the trouble, it includes:

  • 2 x 750mAh Battery
  • 2 x 510 Atomizer - 2.0 ohm resistance
  • 1 x USB Fast Charger
  • 1 x USB Mains Plug (US)
  • 10 x Blank Carts - e-liquid will be required to fill the cartridges, sold separately
  • 1 x Atomizer Cone
If I want to use 510 cartos instead of cartridges, what do I need to buy? I think there is a special cone, or will the included cone work?

You can buy the Riva 901 cone - it will screw on the Riva 510 and fit over standard diameter cartos with plenty of carto sticking out (901 cone is much shorter than 510 one. See Liberty-Flights.com if you are in the US, click the 20% off upper left front page, and buy just a Riva 901 cone)

Buy Boge 510 cartos. You can use either the standard ones or the hotter LR ones that use up charge faster. Boges are simple stuffing type cartos and the most popular cartos for 510 threading.

How I fill
Pop out the soft cap with an unbent paperclip in the mouth hole, very careful not to catch stuffing or the wire loop.
Shake and open the eliquid
Hold a bit of tissue on the threaded end hole, tilt the carto, and add 18+ drops per ml of capacity into the stuffing (Boges are about 1ml)
Clean up the threaded end, tilt open end down into tissue, puff into threaded end to clear air channel (Boges have a defined center air channel and I want to see light through that)
Sop up any loose juice above the stuffing
Cap and let it settle - I lay it on different sides for 15-20 minutes to make sure every bit of stuffing gets damp so I won't singe the carto. if you use thicker juice than me (I use 30% Vg or less, I prefer 20%) then you may need to wait much longer. If you use very thick juice you may have to thin it with distilled water or pure grain alcohol (edible - like Everclear).

While vaping, if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or the carto is getting hotter than normal, I take the carto off the battery and add eliquid. I sometimes use a plastic or delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece on Boge cartos (not to drip into since the juice would head for the central air channel)

Welcome to ECF! You have a terrific starter kit. As others have mentioned, the cone provided will work with cartos fine. I don't use mine much myself though. Use the carts and atty that come with the kit to get the feel for that style of vaping. A drip-tip is another handy thing to use with an atty to test flavors a couple drops at a time. It just pushes on to the atomizer instead of a cartridge. Might be a good thing to buy when you make your next order. Speaking of which...
To start out with, you might want to get a 5 pack of boge standard cartos. They are approx. 3.2 ohms and hold 1ml of liquid. They are great cartos and provide a nice vape with the Riva. The Riva battery is different from the eGo in that it maintains a true, or very close to, 3.7 volts. Thats a good thing by the way. It means that your 3.2 ohm cartos will get a little heavier, hotter hit compared to a standard 510 or eGo at about 3.3 volts. (I hasten to add that the Joye eGo is an awesome PV and I will NEVER diss it for any reason. Just stating some technical differences) I have the same type of battery as a Riva and find that standard cartos provide plenty of vapor, flavor and throat hit for my tastes. If you feel the need for an even hotter hit, then go with the 2.5 or 2.0 ohm cartos if you wish. I wouldn't go below 2.0 personally. Also, some juices actually taste better with the standard cartos as opposed to the low resistance (LR) types. YMMV but enjoy vaping...you have a great start!
