Hey everyone. Been lurking around a bit for information and thought I'd join.

Brief History:
Been a smoker for several years. About 4-5 years back, thought I'd try e-cigs to break the habit. The ones I tried back then tasted like, well, a mix between nasty and burning plastic so it it lasted about a week. Got married a little over a month ago and I (read "the wife") thought it would be good to give it another go. I started with V2s and was impressed how much better the flavor was but I got a little bored with it. I went to my local vape shop and tried out some e-liquids on a battery/tank setup and REALLY enjoyed it. I ended up buying an EVOD setup with a few flavors, tanks, and a couple Mini ProTanks so I could try whatever I want and not worry about cracking. Long story short, I'm 3 weeks cigarette free and am REALLY liking it.

I also like the ability to tinker with my setup a little bit. It has almost became a hobby. Which, this brings up some questions I was hoping you guys and gals could help out with.

1. I've bought a bunch of replacement atomizers. But, instead of popping in new ones, I've been trying dry burning and cotton to replace the wicks. I really like the flavor that the cotton produces but I've noticed I go through e-liquid a lot quicker. Almost double the pace I would go through a normal tank. Is this normal? If not, what might I be doing wrong?

Edit: Forgot to mention, the liquid I'm using that I seem to go through quickly is from MBV and is 80PG/20VG. The liquid I seem to go through at a slower pace is NicQuid which seems to be 60PG/40VG according to their FAQ.

2. I've tried a few different ohm atomizers and think I like 1.8 the best. So, I'm going to try my hand at recoiling. Does anyone know what gauge the standard 1.8ohm Kanger replacements use? Does it really matter trying to get the same gauge or is making sure the ohms are the same more important? I was thinking of getting a roll of 32g kanthal.

3. When rebuilding my own atomizer, obviously I put cotton through the coil. But, should I also make a cotton flavor wick to put on top or is this just personal preference? If I should put a flavor wick on, should one rolled up line of cotton that is about the same size as the wick that goes through the coil be good enough?

4. I understand the purpose of steeping but why is it necessary? For instance, I've been buying flavors from Mt Baker Vapor. Do they not steep while they wait to be sold or do they mix it fresh?

Hope this aren't too "newb-ish" of questions. I'm sure I'll have more questions but I'm looking forward to everyone's advice!

First most - Hi and Welcome to ECF :)

Yeah it is totally normal. It is wicking really well and it takes more juice to get the "more vapor" you are getting. Also PG wicks a little better so thats why you are going through the higher PG ratio a little more quickly :)

Around 32 - 34. If you're rebuilding clearo heads, you'll want higher gauges. The lowest gauges are mostly used for coils on RBAs.

3. When rebuilding my own atomizer, obviously I put cotton through the coil. But, should I also make a cotton flavor wick to put on top or is this just personal preference? If I should put a flavor wick on, should one rolled up line of cotton that is about the same size as the wick that goes through the coil be good enough?
Try it both ways and see how your liquid wicks and if it does or does not flood. My guess is you will need one with high PG ratios. But i tend to use high VG so flooding isnt an issue for me.

4. I understand the purpose of steeping but why is it necessary? For instance, I've been buying flavors from Mt Baker Vapor. Do they not steep while they wait to be sold or do they mix it fresh?
MBV and most all vendors mix to order - try them out of the mail if they are good to you - vape them, if not let them steep and revisit :) some flavors take a bit to develop others are good in the time it takes to get through the mail.

Thanks for the welcome and for the advice!

I'll need to do some research on my own. But, for simplicity sake, RBA (rebuildable atomizer?) is made for rebuilding. A clearomizer isn't really made for rebuilding but can be recoiled and rewicked, right?

So, pretty much anything I'm using now on the EVOD (Mini ProTank and the standard EVOD BCCs that come with the kit) would be considered a clearomizers. RBA is a different animal. Right?

Back with another question relating to my first question.

I'm noticing that with the atomizers I've rewicked with cotton that I'm getting small droplets of e-liquid on my tongue. While it doesn't taste horrible, it just a little too bold and seems to be wasting the liquid quicker. Is this normal for cotton wicks? Am I doing something wrong like not using enough cotton?
