I'm so deep and settled into RBAs, self built VV mods and mechs that I'm totally out of touch with gear that would serve a new trying-to-be vaper ex smoker

I was hoping to get some recommendations from you kind folks on what's easy and reliable these days?

The wife's father is a heavy smoker who's had a recent run of success with "gas station" e cigs. I'm not sure what he's been using lately but he says he has zero cravings for cigarettes (good) but feels like "there has to be a better way"

I'm going to speak to him later to see what he feels he's lacking. Sounds like its not nicotine but just inconvenience/price of having to pick up disposable daily or maybe even more frequently

If we lived closer I'd just show him how to set up some drippers and be available for rebuilds and help but that's not an option.

Anyway, I'm all ears! What's good these days? Straight forward 808 autos and cartos were good enough for me in the beginning. I tend to distrust bottom coil clearos because of the fiddle factor in my experience, but again I'm out of touch with the pre fab market entirely. Should I just send him over to smokeless image or comparable?

A very typical next step is a BCC or BDC like a Protank or Aspire and a 'twist-style' variable voltage battery. Some prefer a top coil, like the iClears. Hope this helps. Good luck to you both and have fun!

Agreed.... Look around a bit and decide what you think will work for you. This place and YouTube will offer many reviews on devices that you may be interested in. :toast:

I would get him an evod starter kit and then work his way up to a protank or aspire. Evod is bottom coil and it's a good starter kit.

Kanger Evod Starter Kit $29.69 | gotsmok.com

I would be very careful posting links from gotsmok.com, while they are fantastic for finding good deals, often (as is the case here) it's an introductory deal that changes prices after the posting. The problem is that gotsmok just serves as a pass through to another website, and if the other site changes pricing it never gets updated on gotsmok.

Just my :2c: ... YMMV!

I started on Blu which only lasted for a couple days before I got fed up with nasty flavor and it just wasn't cutting it for me. I still really needed a cigarette. I've only been at this for a little over 3 weeks now, but I highly recommend a Vision Spinner (or ego twist) battery with an iclear 16 for someone starting out. I currently have 2 spinners, MVP2, 3 iclear 16's, 1 iclear 30s, 1 protank2 and a mini protank.

I like the MVP2 with the protank better (when it's not flooding), but found that the Spinner with the iclear 16's best emulated smoking for me. Warmer vape with a tighter draw and it really made the transition easier for me.

I've only been vaping about a year and a half. The 808D auto worked okay for me for the first year after I learned to refill the cartomizers. But, I didn't feel like I had found that "something missing" until I was introduced to the eGo twist. I know it's not the best thing on the market, but it's cheap, easy to use, and easy to understand.

I have also been able to set up 10 converts from analogs with simple eGo mini's with CE5 clearomizers. It seems to be a small portable package that makes new converts comfortable.

Just my :2c:

I can personally recommend this kit for new folks ... Kanger Evod Starter Kit. It's a great kit from a great shop, they stand behind their products, and they will take care of you.

I heartily agree! Excellent pricing and TWO batteries in case one them fails or the connector snaps off of the battery body.

Very good price too!
