I'm a rookie, loved vaping since my first day and I am on my own personal journey into vaping. Discovering and learning new things.

My father: 60 yrs old, 1 PAD ultralights and has pretty bad COPD/emphysema. He works behind a car parts counter and does good just to do that. At home he does very little because of his lungs. Gets fits of horrible coughing. I've been letting him try my Bloog at home and he thinks it might replace his analogs.

Question #1: Can he vap with COPD? Will it do him any good at this point?

Question #2: What PV can ya'll recommend ? He will need one with almost no hassle. Good mah and works well with prefilled cartos. (A deluxe kit is not a problem). I will be doing all the PV caring and maintanance for him till he gets the hang of it. I was thinking of something like a Riva.

Please no complicated talk of ohms, volts or flux capacitors.....I'll get lost in all that.

I just want my dad to get better.

Many members here have COPD and vape and say they breath much better. I would suggest something like the Go-go. It's a 1300mAh battery that will last him all day and into the next between charges. It comes with 3mL cartos and that should also last him a long time, probably all day at work and maybe even into the evening. The kits aren't expensive, are easy to refill and the cartos can be cleaned and rebuilt making them last indefinitely. It's even larger than a Riva but who wants it to look like they're smoking a cigarette any way? It's a unit that will surely get him off the analogs if he really wants to. Here's the cheapest place to buy them. DiscountVapers - Your source for savings on electronic cigarettes and accessories

My mom just got her 2nd kit, a Riva and is loving it. She is 61, smoked for over 40 years and has not had a hard time with filling her own cartomizers, using juices, atomizers. I also had to help taking care of maintenance but not as long as I thought I would. It's become simple for her once she got the hang of it. My mom had the beginning symtoms of COPD that have seemed to go away after vaping. Other members on the board who had/have COPD have vaped, but he should really ask his doctor! If the doctor is bias to electric cigarettes in general a 2nd opinion couldn't hurt.

First, Congrats to you and for trying to help your father!

I also have COPD and have been vaping a little over a year now, while once diagnosed unfortunately it will not go away. My breathing has improved, the 3 separate inhalers I once used are now down my daily and 1 for onset. The hack I once had is almost non existent now and my sense of smell and taste have improved (some days a blessing, others well, we'll leave it at that!)

Wow great responses! Thanks. I looked into the Riva and the Go Go (never heard of that one) and I'm actually considering one of those as my first upgrade from my Bloog. With me and my dad both on the same PVs it will most likely be much easier. The cartos alone on the Go GO is HUGE,which I think would do us both really well. And Grimm did a good review of it also.

The Riva is excellent, Liberty Flights has great prices on this kit and they were running a black friday special for a few days with the code; blackfriday,

The Riva Lite Steel bundle with 2 batteries is $26.24, s&h 2.99 for one kit

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

I'd also recommend ordering a few packs of cartomizers (510)

I've purchased many of these kits and have yet to have any problems, HTH

Well I did not know this. I thought I was more intelligent. I thought his lungs would heal if he stopped smoking. I am sad. I dont know what else to type.

Great suggestions above!

I would also recommend getting a couple of 306 atties for dripping sample flavs. Once he finds a fav flav or two, then use the cartos.

Even though the COPD may not diminish, the lack of tars and the other 'trash' will aid him in his breathing!

Kudos on helping your Dad!

My mom has pretty severe COPD and is off one inhaler and one BP med. She had a horrible cough, in fact I used to be able to find her shopping due to her cough. Cough is gone.

Another huge benefit to vaping is her mental outlook has changed. She's more positive and upbeat. Smoking limits you. It does especially when your older and most of the people you're around don't smoke. People, even in a friendly way said things to her. She really stopped going out, going to Sr meetings, etc. Now she's out and about. She used to dread going to the doctor because she'd hear the smoking lecture. He's been so supportive of her vaping.

I think you're father will feel better physically and also better about himself.

I'd get him a bigger battery pv mostly because he probably has reduced lung function. My mother complained about her first pv (think it was Smoke Tip) saying it was too hard for her to inhale with it.

He's been trying it at home now for about 3-4 days and it seemed to keep him away from the analogs. Tonight he handed me back the Bloog and said it was making him cough more and it hurt his throat. We talked about all this and that. He really wants to quit. I think the Go Go might be a little better for him. And me as well. I'm not giving up. I will just have to find the right combo of things for him. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

Tell him to drink plenty of water. Even tic-tacs, vaping is very dehydrating.

My mom is in love with her echo-e with the big cartos, or her Riva with the cartos from CCV and BWB juice. She used to like his Virginia and 555. Now the only juice she vapes is Casablanca. I've heard great things about the Go-Go. I got her the echo-e because everything else I own is 510.

When I read these responses, I know why I love the ECF and it's members.....such helpful caring people. I am proud to be associated with you vapers.....and Bloodwolf, my heart goes out to you and your concern for your father. It is sad to watch someone we love having health problems. Hopefully with all this good advice, you will see an improvement in your Dad's condition.

Wishing you the best of luck with this!

I'm 71 and I have COPD. I've been vaping two years and no longer cough and wheeze all the time. I can function much better without running out of breath so easily. I would say my health is 1,000 percent better than what it was. I occasionally use my inhaler but not very often. I too would highly recommend the Go-Go. You can get a Go-Go kit for 42.50 at Discount Vaper Go-go Complete Kit - Stainless Color:2cool:
