So I would like to try vaping, and currently smoke about a pack and a half of Marlboro Lights a day. I have done a bunch of reading on this forum and still have lots of questions.

Based upon recommendation from this forum I have ordered from cignot:
Joye 510 (KIT-510-PCC) with manual switch
-it says it comes with 5 prefilled carts but doesn't say what strength or flavor
-I also ordered 12mg, 18mg and 26mg juice (5ml each)

I have tried watching the "complete guide video" (which I can't seem to find now) but it said I didn't have permission to watch it. It might have answered my questions.

I see a lot about dripping and not sure if that applies to the 510. Most of the video tutorials just say put in cart, push button, and inhale. Also seems like a lot of folks talk about priming etc with a new 510...I'm confused

Second question: When I smoke the most is at coffee in the morning and while drinking beer at night. I will usually have 4-5 analogues during coffee, sip, puff, sip, puff....if I am using a cart with 18 or 26mg am I going to OD? I am thinking I cannot smoke in the same way. Is this true?

Since I ordered juice, is it simple to refill ...does it come with directions?

Why do so many people talk about the burnt taste. How do you avoid it.

Thanks for your patience. I am hoping my package comes by Monday and want to understand this by then. Also if I should order other carts with lower nic levels I would like to do that before it gets here.

Thanks in advance!!

If you look up in the sticky section of this sub forum MistressNomad has some great videos. You might want to check those out. She goes into refilling and explains it much better then i could in here, typing. Burn taste you can avoid by blowing the factory juice out of the atomizer before you use it. Also after that you can prime the atomizer with 4 or 5 drops to get it going. Usually the burnt taste is a sign the atomizer is dry. You can also Drip with a 510 for sure if you decide that you don't like carts.

EDIT: here is a link to the videos http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/120044-i-made-videos-newbies-particular-broke-newbies.html

First - no you will not OD, the only High nic that you are getting is the 26mg and it is not really enough to OD. Next, having a analog with the e-cig is ok. You will reach a point where you do not really want a regular cig. The burnt taste normally comes when the atty get real dry. It almost as bad when a regular cig runs out of tobacco and burns into the filter.

Dripping is not required in using a e-cig, a lot of people here do it, I never have.
Just take your time and enjoy, a lot will become clear once you start and fiddle with the equipment.

Like someone else said, you're not going to od, but you can definitely feel when you've gotten too much nicotine. I think you'll be able to vape in the mornings and enjoy it but for me so far, it seems like the entire habit changes. When I smoke an analog, it takes about 15 drags or so...When I vape, I take about 2-4 inhales and then I'm done for right then. I put it down and go do something else.

I also don't seem to crave as bad in the mornings or at night so much anymore.

Well my 510 came yesterday and I am going to try it today. It is charging right now. Not much to the device itself. Just a charger and a sad little white box with two batts and two atomizers, as well as a few carts. Maybe I was expecting more.

Will let you know how it goes. How long does a cart last. Is it equivalent to about a pack of cigarettes? Also is 18mg nic about the same as a pack?

Good luck, keep us posted.

NO the cart is not equal to a pack (I wish). You'll need to keep topping off to keep the atty juiced up.

As for the 18mg, it all depends on how you vape; nicotine is absorbed through your mucous membranes in your cheeks, throat, nose, not too much absorbed in your lungs. If you and I sat down and vaped identical juice on identical PV's we'd end up getting different amounts of nicotine. Nobody knows (or can say for sure) how much of what we get is actually absorbed by our bodies.

Thanks for the replies. I did get some juice and ordered some other flavors from another source as well.

It is charging right now, and can't wait to try.

What is the best way to get the atomizer ready for first time use?

Blow into the threaded end over a tissue until liquid stops coming out. It's not necessary(you won't get sick), but will remove most of the factory PG, which doesn't taste great.

You got the same starter kit I did, and I've been very happy with it(happier still once I started dripping). YMMV, though. Just charge the PCC overnight and you should be good for swapping batteries out over the next day.

Take the atty, wipe the end off w/vodka, rum or whatever alcohol you have that is consumable (not rubbing alcohol) to sterilize. After it is sterilized, put your mouth over the threads of the atomizer and blow, blow, blow into a tissue. Turn it around to the other end and repeat. To prime it, put just 2 drops of e-juice on the bridge of the atomizer (the thingy that sticks up), then re-assemble the unit. Take the cartridge off the unit, fill it w/juice until the filler resembles a 7-11 slurpie, don't let it pool. If you get too much in, just blot a lil bit off w/a tissue. Put cart back on, take a soft, slow, long puff (vape). The first puff or two, you might not want to inhale just in case there's a lil primer left. Cheers and let us know your first reaction and if you liked it (best part, always fun to read). We're here for ya.

oops, forgot -- one more thing -- When you're filling the cartridge, drop a few drops, then take a toothpick down between the filler and cart to release any air bubbles, which can ease in filling and give you more drops in your cartridge. When you get more experienced in vaping and filling, you'll want to trim a third of the filling off. That's called the HighPing cart mod.

This is incorrect. "Rubbing alcohol" or isopropyl alcohol is fine for this.

Assuming you let the atty dry.

I don't use rubbing alcohol because of the Wikipedi warning on it, which reads:

Product labels for rubbing alcohol include a number of warnings about the chemical, including the flammability hazards and its intended use only as a topical antiseptic and not for internal wounds or consumption. It should be used in a well-ventilated area due to inhalation hazards. Poisoning can occur from ingestion, inhalation, or consumption of rubbing alcohol.

I use only consumable alcohol. Feel free to use rubbing alcohol for yourself, though, LOL.

Well just tried it. Will be a learning curve to take long slow puffs but it was quite pleasant. Not much flavor with the pre-filled carts.

Just the right amount of throat burn, and nice vapor.

I might be thinking too much but I felt quite a rush of nic from the 3 puffs. Heart rate went up a bit. Will wait a while and try again.

Thanks for everybody's help.

Well, I've gone over and over the reasons why it is appropriate. Using it for these purposes is not inhalation. It's cleaning and sterilization.

Consumable alcohol, which does not evaporate cleanly, actually leaves things behind on the atties you are cleaning. Denatured alcohol would be the worst alcohol type (since it contains chemicals designed to make it un-consumable), liquor would be the next cleanest (but it still contains impurities), and grain alcohol is good- but it is so harsh it's been known to remove paint.

Warnings on isopropyl alcohol about inhalation are talking about a large dose inhalation. Which neither cleaning your atty nor simply being able to smell the alcohol create.

Also remember... that at the doctors office you get your arm swabbed with rubbing alcohol, you can smell it, and they give you your shot right after swabbing you. You don't get sick. In order to get enough fumes from isopropyl alcohol to make you sick, you'd have to pour out a quart in a bowl, throw a towel over your head, and inhale constantly.

The bottom line is this. If you want to clean an atomizer and sterilize it, without leaving behind residue. There are only two choices. Either boil your equipment in *distilled* water- or use isopropyl alcohol as a solvent and sterilizing agent. Either of these will work. Both evaporate cleanly. However isopropyl alcohol evaporates *faster*

If you don't care what residue, minerals, or whatever are sucked into your lungs, stuck to your atty, or hiding in your cartridge: then feel free to clean using whatever liquid you have on hand. If you do care... consider the properties of the cleaning method you are using.

As a commentary to make my point further. I have a bottle of Centrum Vitamins. The bottle states "Accidental overdose of iron containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning of children under 6". I'm fairly sure we don't stop giving kids vitamins, because giving them too many vitamins might kill them.

Isopropyl alcohol is safe for atty cleaning purpoese. Make sure you have the atomizer dry before you vape it.

Simple.

Thanks for your input, Cozzicon. I think I'll stick w/my Everclear. I pour it in a shot glass everyday to sterilize my cartridges, and I could never stomach that with rubbing alcohol. But to each their own.

Everclear.. is actually not that bad of a choice. It does have some impurities... but probably not as bad as tap water.

Good for you.

I agree w/the tap water having impurities. I have reverse osmosis under my kitchen sink. I remember going to the doctor as a babe and having the nurse pull the thermometer out of the isophryl sterilizing container and sticking it right in my mouth. To this day, I can't stand the smell of it. So that's what I meant by each to his own.
