Hi guys, fell upon the forums after a quick Google search so thought I'd come join you!

I'm Bobby and after 8 months or so of vaping, I bought my first mech today! Having started on the ego batteries, the mvp2 and then the dna35 clone, I have bought a stingray clone with a dark horse rda.

So far, I have used 22g I believe it was that was recommended to me, wrapped on a 3mm screwdriver, 5 wraps dual coils and it's coming in around 0.7 ohms. Does this sound right?

No idea Bobby. I use 0.25 and 0.3 for almost everything really and I tend to wrap around 2mm most of the time.

Welcome to the forum though! :) Enjoy your new mod and dripper...

no , it is more like 0.17ohm .

Just noticed where you live, 1 junction down the m6 carpark from me. Which shop recommended you needed 22g? its a bit low of a build for starting out, you need to be sure your batteries are up to it.

The Dark Horse will not clamp on anything under 22 gage unless you fold the ends into the posts. Found that out quickly when I got mine. The set up I'm running is dual parallel coils 28 gage 5 wraps and its at .4 ohms. I can vape it all day on a sony 5 but I do have to swap batteries in the evening. When i fisrt built it i was getting about 2 hours out of the battery before i figured out the clamping issue and went had to actually sand a little material off the pot of the posts to get a good clamp on the wires but with 22g you should be ok. Push and pull on the coils just to be sure as you don't want a short in there. You could also try to find longer screws but then you have to make sure they don't hit the cap. That's why I shortened my posts a little. Once you get that beast working right you'll love it guaranteed!

Using 28 guage kanthal a1, you would need 7/6 wraps around a 3mm to end up with 1.4ohm each coil.
Two of these coils set up as a dual would put you @ 0.7ohm build.

Get an ohm meter before you play with low ohm builds or ANY coil any builds running on a mech.

Heres an online calculator, but using one of these can be misleading if you make any errors entering the parameters, so its always best to meter what you build before you put them on a mech.

Any chance you could go visit Bobby before he follows poor advice and has an incident ???

I also tried 2 coils with 24g 8 wraps and it was at .8ohms it wasn't enjoyable at all. Took way to long to ramp up and ended up getting way to hot for me to feel comfortable holding it. That atty was made for some serious sub ohming around .5 or lower. You could step back and use a regular dripper for a while and move into that Dark Horse. I have a 4 coil drip that doesn't come close to what the Dark Horse wants to be happy but like i said you'll love it once you get it where it's working right!

Wow so many replies! Thanks for the advice. I do have an ohm meter on the dna mod, but evidently it's not that accurate, so il get onto that right away! The 28 gauge duals at 5 wraps came in around 0.8 which is what I was told it would be, so I thought it was accurate.

To the guy asking where I am, I'm in Brownhills near Walsall. You?

I didn't understand the post about stepping back from the dark horse. Not sure what I missed there

your opening post stated that you used 22ga. There's quite a difference.

Your original post said 22 gauge which is what was causing the alarm bells.

Sorry I should clarify. 28g was originally used when I used the rda on my dna. I built a few of those, then when I bought my mech today, I built two using 22g to use after they said I was using a mech, so could use 22 now.

Back to 28? Shame, the 22 was easier to wick!

Hopefully that clears it up.

Well 22 gauge kanthal,
wrapped on a 3mm screwdriver, 5 wraps dual coils and it's coming in around 0.7 ohms. Does this sound right?
does not come out to 0.7 ohms dual coil 5 wraps on 3mm so the answer to your question is no, it does not sound right.

That seems to be the resounding answer lol. I'm new to this. Having been told by a few shops that the ohm meter on the dna would suffice, I trusted it.

So short term solution? Should I go back to dripping on my dna and sack this off as a bad job until I can find someone who will teach me this properly? Or persevere using a different build?

I suppose so;

although I don't know what you're going from. Maybe you could say what "this" is?

You should be good with 28 gauge; and if you're using a dna box, you should be good using that; the question is whether you are putting 22 gauge dual coils on a mech mod, but I don't think you've said that either (I aint gonna go back over the thread with a microscope to check.... again)
