I looked on the New Users forums, and couldn't find anything on the bare bones absolute basics... how do you actually USE an e-cig? I just bought a Joye 510 pack that came with 2 batteries, 2 atomizers, and 5 cartridges. I'm technically inclined enough to screw the battery to the atomizer. Got that. I put a new cartridge into the atomizer. (question 1: it says to "drop" some juice onto the bridge... the cartridges I have look more like a wet cotton mesh, and there is no way to "drop" anything from it... is this normal?)

So I have the whole thing assembled - what now? Do I have to hold the manual button down before inhaling? While inhaling?

How do I know when the battery needs to be recharged? Will the LED stop working, or is there something else I should be looking for?

Is it normal for the end of the cartridge with the hole to get a little wet (small drops of what I can only assume are nicotine juice...?)

I'm sorry to ask these questions if they are somewhere else, but I didn't see a sticky for any of it, or anything in the forums - all the posts seem to be about where/how to buy, and then discussions of different products, nothing on how to actually use the thing once you've bought it...

Ok, fill the carto with juice direct to the cotton..

Insert unto Atomiser..

Screw atomiser unto battery.. press the battery once on your lips and give a gentle drag.

The battery needs to be recharged when you see the front lite blink 3 times and no vapor comes out..

I just changed from the one you use to the Riva 510 and it's like night and day!
This is the best I have found..

Yes, thats what triggers the battery to fire the atty which makes the vapor.

How do I know when the battery needs to be recharged? Will the LED stop working, or is there something else I should be looking for?

Depending on the PV the led will blink and thats the signal....or the vapor stops and it appears to be dead.

between here and there
WElcome....You can only drop juice onto an atty if you have ordered juice in a bottle from the vendor. Otherwise, I would blow thru the atty while holding a tissue at the battery end and see if any primer juice comes out. You don't want to vape this,it tastes awful... Once done, screw the atty to the battery , insert the cart and push the button and draw like you would on a cig, The battery led flashes when it needs recharged. If you don't see it and it stops working, then of course charge it. You should look to order more ejcuice right away as you dont want to run out of your ecig stuff and have to return to cigs.

The questions are no problem at all

FYI - the bridge is this /\ thing you see inside the atty

Get rid of the primer on the atomizer because it tastes bad - if you have no liquid order some now. If no liquid, then just blow out the atty into a tissue, put (push, not twist) one cart on and vape without inhaling for a while until it smells better.

You will be keeping the cart damp with eliquid. Don't throw out any carts. A cart can be reused, washed, restuffed, reused more, etc etc. I recommend the cheap precut blue foam stuffing for 510 at strictlyejuice.com

Manual battery (excellent choice!!) - you can start pressing and holding in the button about a second before starting your drag then let up the button just before the end of your drag. That way you'll be dragging when the vapor is best.

With manual batteries and a drip tip, you can also use the dripping method - dripping a couple of drops on the atty bridge then vape that mostly off, adding another drop.

And when you are ready you can try cartomizers too. I recommend Boge soft-cap standard resistance cartomizers (you cannot use the LR ones on a slim ecig). I mostly use cartos on my 510 now.

re battery chargers - the light where the battery screws in is the important one. Typically when fully charged, the light will turn solid green or solid blue.

re carts leaking juice - yeah that can happen. When i set down an ecig w/ a cart. I try to set it down with the cart lower, then I vape it with the LED lower so hopefully any juice that DID leak will go in the atomizer. And when you add liquid to s cart, you just want it to look damp on top of the stuffing, not soaked or a puddle.

Thank you so much for all the help, I am hoping to break my cigarette habit. I bought a disposable thing from the 7-11, and was impressed that it kept the craving at bay, so I figured I would go ahead and try a real e-cig, so I ordered a Joye 510 from Cignot - just a word there that they were quick and included a little note in the package on how to prime the atomizer before vaping - but I just couldn't find anything that actually explained how to do it (I suppose it's kind of like analog that way - I had to learn how to actually smoke a cigarette the first time...)

Is it safe to store the e-cig with the LED pointing downward (like in a pocket)? All the instructions say to keep it horizontal to prevent dripping, but that seems like it would only happen if the atty was downward...

If you have a cart on an atty I recommend pocket it cart down - else you are tempting gravity with the the juice in the cart. I find a 510 more pocketable with a standard metal/stuffing carto on - makes it a bit shorter and more sturdy.

Re the LED on the end - it will flash when you are out of power. Note that it will also flash if you exceed the safety cutoff time with your button press. Safety feature - it will cut off if you hold the button down past a certain amount of time (every battery is different). If, for example, you hold in the button and forget to let it up between drags, you may encounter the cutoff flashes and then the battery will act like it's dead for some period of time (usually 10-90 seconds). then it would work again. Normally when a battery is getting low on power the hits won't be as strong and you will have been using that battery for a while so in that case it's probably that it is on its last trickle of power when ti flashes.
