Disclaimer: I am a newbie to REAL vaping, and am poor. So please don't make judgements.

History: I quit smoking analogs about 6 months ago. Haven't had an analog since I got my first cigalike. Last weekend I bought my first real vaporizer, e-liquid and all.

This Week: I've been reading A LOT of the forum. OMG my head is swimming. I only just today came across references to "steeping". Gah!

My Current Equipment:

  • 1 Joyetech eGo-c2 upgrade 1000mAh Battery (at least I am pretty sure)
  • 1 Kanger MT3S clearomizer
  • 1 USB Charger cable
  • 1 AC Adapter (from my Fin cigalike kit)

So...about my gear. First, I realize this is newbie gear, and I am fine with that. No way am I going to spend more money until I have a much better understanding of things. Main question here: Am I going to be able to get a decent flavor from e-juice with this current equipment or certain general upgrades?

My first vaper gear set cost $60 for a 10ml bottle of e-juice, the USB charger cable, the clearomizer and the battery. This was an un-researched purchase that in a way I now regret. I most certainly need another vaporizer set, and if I am happy with that and it's under $80, I'd get another. But my biggest problem right now is what to get. Rather then ask for general recommendations, let me list what I do, and do not want, to deal with in the next few months.

E-Liquid Results (in this order): 1) Flavor 2) Smoothness 3) Vapor-which, frankly, I don't really care about at all.

Nicotine Levels: I'm mostly going to be smoking 12mg/ml nicotine. For at least the next 6 months. Does this limit me to certain types of gear suited to this?

Powering My Gear: I'm not up to dealing with actual batteries yet. I want USB charge devices for now. I'd dig having something (even a button) that shows how powered my battery is.

Voltage: I don't understand the variable voltage thing at all. Am I missing something important here? Is it important?

Filling: First, I hate filling this current clearomizer. I don't have a dropper at present, and the e-juice bottle top is the standard crap. I haven't had any accidents yet, but I know one will happen eventually. From what I understand, an ACTUAL tank is easier to fill, but I don't know what sort of tanks work with my battery. Help please!

Drip Tips: I've tried very hard to wrap my brain about this, but I'm pretty unsure of the facts. Do drip tips work on the sort of gear I'm looking to get or already have? What is the main reason vapers go that particular route?

Last question: I've seen gear on websites that look like a metal box, with a mouthpiece sticking out of the top. What are those? How are they filled? Are they USB chargable or do they require batteries? What is the main reason vapers go that particular route?

Sorry for the wall of text!

You'll have no problem with any of the gear with your nicotine levels. just be careful, There are some juices out there that will crack plastic tanks, cinnamon, citrus, make sure to read the descriptions of the juices before you buy.

For battery you'll have to get something with an LED or OLED screen to see it. The Innokin MVP is a box style mod that is usb rechargeable and you have all the VV/VW options AND you can use while charging.

for the voltage, Pull up a picture of the Ohms Law on google, if your resistance is 2.0 Ohms than you can use the picture to find target power levels.

Most tanks will work fine with your current battery. Anything eGo threaded will be great.. Kanger Pro tanks, Vivi Novas, Aspire etc.

Drip tips will work in almost every tank out there.

The Innokin MVP is the box style that you are talking about. They have a built in battery of 2600 Mah and you can charge an vape at the same time. Usually it's just personal preference for either tube style or box mod. whatever suits your fancy really.

Hope this helps!

ok lets make things a tiny bit simpler

1st off WELCOME and very glad you found us.

2nd
Make it a priority to as soon as financially possible get 2 of everything. 2 batterys, 2 toppers, 2 chargers and at least 30 days of juice (you also want spare heads for the toppers). You do not want to ever find yourself unable to vape because something broke at time you could not get it replaced.

3rd Variable voltage or wattage
All this doe sis let you change how much power is being applied to your topper. It lets you customize your vape to the topper and juice you are using. No need to go into all the complicated stuff unless you plan to rebuild the toppers so for now lets keep it simple. With the EGO-C battery (I have 2 myself that are still going strong after 10 months) you want to stick to toppers in the 1.7-2.2 ohm range. I like 1.8 ohms on my ego-c. The ego-C is not adjustable so you have to sort of pick the topper to go with what the battery puts out. I find at 1.8 ohms I get good flavor and decent vapor production. It is however a matter of taste and you might find you like something different.

On a variable device the best way to dial it in is the following process
set it to its lowest voltage/wattage take a vape
then crank it up one notch and take a vape
if it tastes good crank it up another notch and take a vape
keep doing this until you get the first hint of an unpleasant taste at which point crank it down one notch

Most people prefer to vape at the highest voltage without a bad taste. See no math!

So...about my gear. First, I realize this is newbie gear, and I am fine with that. No way am I going to spend more money until I have a much better understanding of things. Main question here: Am I going to be able to get a decent flavor from e-juice with this current equipment or certain general upgrades?

Depends on the juice and your taste but in general yes better the device the better the flavor...also depends on tanks

Itaste MVP 2 0 Energy Line iClear 16 Kit Brand New from Innokin Free Shipping | eBay this is a passthrough you dont have to mess with an external battery and it lasts about 2 days on average on a single vape has the volt thing and is a box.

E-Liquid Results (in this order): 1) Flavor 2) Smoothness 3) Vapor-which, frankly, I don't really care about at all.

Depends on who you buy from and personal taste. i get some from EC blands for me great flavor and if you want to try it out a 5ml is $2.50

Nicotine Levels: I'm mostly going to be smoking 12mg/ml nicotine. For at least the next 6 months. Does this limit me to certain types of gear suited to this?

nic lvl doesn't really matter except more nic can change the flavor a bit but relatively not too different

Powering My Gear: I'm not up to dealing with actual batteries yet. I want USB charge devices for now. I'd dig having something (even a button) that shows how powered my battery is.

See MVP 2 above

Voltage: I don't understand the variable voltage thing at all. Am I missing something important here? Is it important?

Depending on taste, flavor and tanks system volts can matter there is a good intro to volts in the new member section

I use the pro tank Aero excellent vape and a tank easy to fill Kanger Aerotank made with Stainless Steel and Airflow Control

Drip Tips: I've tried very hard to wrap my brain about this, but I'm pretty unsure of the facts. Do drip tips work on the sort of gear I'm looking to get or already have? What is the main reason vapers go that particular route?

drip tips generally work on all devices it is really a matter of appearance and how it feels in your mouth. In the protanks you use a 510 drip tip found all over and costs are from a buck and up. if you buy the protank it comes with a removable tip

Last question: I've seen gear on websites that look like a metal box, with a mouthpiece sticking out of the top. What are those? How are they filled? Are they USB chargable or do they require batteries? What is the main reason vapers go that particular route?

the metal box is the itaste VTR it is a really nice item but REALLY heavy I would suggest the MVP 2 instead.

You will get a million different opinions so these are just mine. You will evolve and change or you'll love whatever you get it really is subjective to your flare and tastes.

Rather then ask for general recommendations, let me list what I do, and do not want, to deal with in the next few months.

E-Liquid Results (in this order): 1) Flavor 2) Smoothness 3) Vapor-which, frankly, I don't really care about at all.
Flavor: Buy from a reputable vendor. Brick and Mortar stores that let you sample are generally the best for this one. If you like the flavor, order the flavor. Non bm ordering is hit and miss. My personal preference is for Heather's Heavenly Vapes liquids There are some flavors that I just do not like though.
Smoothness: I am not sure what you mean here. I find high vg content liquids to be more smooth on my palette and throat than liquids with pg in them.
It boils down to the miserable/magical process of experimenting.
Vapor: VG = Vapor. Higher vg content liquids can produce more vapor. they are also thicker which can make tanks harder to fill.

Nicotine Levels: I'm mostly going to be smoking 12mg/ml nicotine. For at least the next 6 months. Does this limit me to certain types of gear suited to this?
The vast majority of vaporizer gear will handle these requirements with out issue.

Powering My Gear: I'm not up to dealing with actual batteries yet. I want USB charge devices for now. I'd dig having something (even a button) that shows how powered my battery is.
The easiest way to do this is to get a mod LIKE the Innokin MVP2.0 or V V 3.0. I mention these mods based around price point issues. There are a plethora of different options out there. I picked up a VV3.0 with 5 tanks for about $40 from my freedom smokes. Again there are many websites out there that have similar products. It charges via usb, has a battery checker on it and is Variable Voltage/Wattage

You can easily find Ego threaded tanks on most retailer websites. A few popular ego tanks are the Protank II Mini and the iClear 16.

Drip Tips: I've tried very hard to wrap my brain about this, but I'm pretty unsure of the facts. Do drip tips work on the sort of gear I'm looking to get or already have? What is the main reason vapers go that particular route?
The short answer is Yes. Not all drip tips are able to work with your gear though. If you do not hate the feel of your current tank's tip don't mess about with it.

Last question: I've seen gear on websites that look like a metal box, with a mouthpiece sticking out of the top. What are those? How are they filled? Are they USB chargable or do they require batteries? What is the main reason vapers go that particular route? This question is a bit harder to answer. The answer is yes, and no. Box mods come in a few different styles. There are USB charge versions like the MVP2.0 and there are battery driven ones like the Reo Grand/Mini. There are others out there too. I listed those two as they are the most commonly talked about ones on ECF.

Sorry for the wall of text!
Never say you are sorry for asking intelligent questions. Informed decisions are the ones you are least likely to regret.

I reccomend the itaste vv3 for $30 or the mvp2 for $45 from 101vape.com

They both have the same features the differences being size and shape of the battery, and how long each one lasts. Both have a usb typemcharger, both can be vaped while charging. Both have vv and vw and yes it is important.

I personally own both devices and prefer the mvp2 by far. I didnt think i would like it at all and bought it soley for how long the battery lasts, 2 1/2 days on one charge.

You can dress it up for $15 by going to jwraps if you want or can afford.

If you use the wattage setting on either battery you are safe to move between 6 and 8 without worries of burning anything,
It just makes your juice taste a little different. I usually set it at 6.5 for my friends.

The best clearomizer tank i have found is at fasttech.com with a long shipping time. But its called kwx5. Its basically a minimt3 with metal mouth piece instead of plastc. I have dozens of these and its the only clearo of this type i use. But they are cheap, newbie friendly.

Although most of my tanks are carto tanks. You can get a few of those on the cheap at www.desertvapes.com
Ranging from $2-$6 each.
But the drip tips and cartomizers are seprate, they have those as well.

You said your poor, i understand that! Visit fasttech.com Just make sure you check out the forums before buying anything and be prepared for your stuff to not get here till late march lol. They have chinese new year right now lol.
But its much cheaper over there.

One of my favorite juice vendors is mountbakervapor.com
For the price you cant go wrong. Just steer clear of doing the flavor shots.

For a more premium style juice vendor but still more affordable than most i love Premium USA E-Liquid, Electonic Cigarettes and Handcrafted USA E-Juice by Mister-E-Liquid.com

I suggest checking out those websites its where i do most of my shopping,
$43 for mvp with shipping or $28 for the itaste vv3 comes with charger
$10 on a glass dct carto tank drip tip or $5 for a polypro dct tank and driptip plus $3 shipping
$10 in cartomizers a pack of 5 will last about a month atleast.
i get mine from ibtanked you would need xl size if you went the above dct tanks,
So between $50 and $70 with shipping included you can have an awesome set up.
Get what you can afford.

Good advice here but want to add just a little. I hate elitism in any form so that's a bit about me personally. With that in mind, I want to address "noobie gear." I've been vaping more than 18 months. I've accumulated a whole lot of gear that I never use. I still use and prefer that "noobie gear" and could have saved a whole bunch of money which was one of my reasons for making the switch to vaping to start with. If you find yourself vaping a 3.7 volts (your Ego C upgrade unregulated) much of the time or with a particular juice then it may be time to go to VV but it may not be as the same effect can be had by just trying a LR (1.8) atomizer first tried in unregulated mode. If you suspect you might like an even warmer vape than that, then you can check it out with one of the VVs like Twist/Spinner or just spend around $12.00 for a mini VV usb passthrough which is always a good thing to have in a backup drawer anyway and will let you try above 3.7 volts. Just my 2 cents.

Disclaimer: I am a newbie to REAL vaping, and am poor. So please don't make judgements.

History: I quit smoking analogs about 6 months ago. Haven't had an analog since I got my first cigalike. Last weekend I bought my first real vaporizer, e-liquid and all.

Congratulations!!

There is no need to spend lots of money to get a good vape. Remember, this is a forum devoted to e-cigs and, like most forums, many of the people here are really *into* the subject.

I compare the mechanical aspects of e-cigs (battery, toppers) to cars. Yes, some people need an expensive vehicle for specialized purposes (a truck to carry loads/a Ferrari for speed/a van to carry passengers) but for most people, an inexpensive sedan works fine.

An e-cig is basically very simple - a battery provides power to heat up a metal coil that is wrapped around a wick saturated with e-juice. That's all it is.

No, the nicotine level does not limit you. The PG/VG ratio might limit you a bit because the more VG in the e-juice, the 'thicker' it is and it might not 'wick' as well.

Powering My Gear: I'm not up to dealing with actual batteries yet. I want USB charge devices for now. I'd dig having something (even a button) that shows how powered my battery is.

Voltage: I don't understand the variable voltage thing at all. Am I missing something important here? Is it important?

Personally, I don't think the variable voltage/wattage stuff is important at all (thought most people here would disagree with me). I have several vv devices and I never use the vv part of it. Many people say different juices taste better at different voltages so they adjust their device to fit the particular juice. I find juices that taste good in my setup.

If that's the only reason you don't like your clearomizer, just buy a couple of droppers.

Drip Tips: I've tried very hard to wrap my brain about this, but I'm pretty unsure of the facts. Do drip tips work on the sort of gear I'm looking to get or already have? What is the main reason vapers go that particular route?

You already have a drip tip - it's the clear plastic piece you actually put your lips on. But the mt3s has a non-removable drip tip so don't worry about it. Many clearomizers/cartotanks have a removable drip tip so you can put a different one on it if you want.

Last question: I've seen gear on websites that look like a metal box, with a mouthpiece sticking out of the top. What are those? How are they filled? Are they USB chargable or do they require batteries? What is the main reason vapers go that particular route?

Some have removable batteries, others do not. The MVP is probably the best known one. It has a large capacity battery (2600mah) but it is not removable - when the battery wears out, the device is useless. But it's relatively inexpensive, well-built, and has a large following.

Sorry for the wall of text!

Best of luck!!
