Hello learned ones. I tend to be verbose, so I'll recap with increased brevity at the end for those of you in the TL;DR camp.

I'm considering entering the vapor realm within the next week or so, in an attempt to alter my smoking habits (and my wallet capacity, surely). I'm a moderate smoker, maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a pack in a day, a full pack max if I'm hitting up the bars all night. I've done some preliminary research on my own, some of it here, some of it elsewhere around the interwebs, and I think I know about what I want, but perhaps those of you with more experience in this might be able to offer some insight into anything else I might want to take into consideration, so I'm going to lay out my tentative plan, and see what you have to say.

Firstly, I'm probably going to stay away from the uber-fancy at first. No VV, no modular mega-units. My reasoning is mostly habit. I want the transition to be as smooth as possible, and after a dozen years as a smoker, the form-factor of an analog cigarette in hand (and face) is second nature, so I'd like to get something at first that rather closely emulates that. For that reason, I'm looking at basic starter kits for cigarette-style units. A stipulation there however, is I'm thinking a PCC is nearly mandatory for me. If I lose battery power during a long day, I know I'll be hitting up a convenience store within the hour for an analog fix, whether I like it or not. I'll call myself nasty names for doing so, but I'll do it anyway. A charging case seems to me like it would alleviate a lot of that concern, and it's just downright convenient.

I also don't want some junk model that feels like smoking a slightly foggy evening. Some of my friends' cheaper models seem to have the effect of standing in front of a fog machine and hoping for the best. I don't need a full-flavored cigarette equivalent, but something with a moderate draw would be nice. I smoke lights at the moment, or rather I did smoke "lights" before the government here decided that wasn't okay with them and that "blue" was much more descriptive. Anyway, I found the Ovale emini, which seems nice. Being an Android fan, I can even get over the fact that it looks like an iPhone. The reviews, despite it being rather new, seem to be largely favorable. I do wish the PCC had a little more storage space for spare parts and extra tanks (I want to go the liquid route rather than replaceable cartomizers, to save a little more cash and to be able to play with mixing flavors). Perhaps someone has a solution for carrying those separately, in something small. I'd like space for a few tanks to swap flavors, and maybe an extra atomizer just in case, but I imagine spare liquid tanks uncovered in my pocket might end up resulting in awkward moments where it appears I dribbled a little at the urinal, but correct me if I'm wrong there.

So that should give you a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for, so I'll pass it along to you now. Let me know what I might have neglected to consider, and any other suggestions I might find useful. Thanks in advance. I look forward to being hit with some o' that knowledge.

SHORT VERSION:

Me smoke light ciggys. Me want quality vapor-thingy to replace. Me want PCC. Me want liquid refill system. Me want your suggestions. You suggest now!

Cheers!

 :glare:

Hey Nulicore! Welcome to the ECF and congrats! After 5 posts you can post in other sections of the forum.

The Joye eRoll is the latest and fanciest of the mini ecigs with PCC. In fact there is nothing like it. Brand new! (the rebranded name is Ovale emini). There is quite a buzz around it and by reading the reviews and watching the YouTube videos I'm impressed! In fact I have a white one on the way :). I am super excited, since it will look so neat next to my white iPhone.

What I like about it is that the atties are replaceable. They are the same ones that are used for the eGo-C and eCab (other Joye products)., so easy to get new ones at most online stores. Spares are also sold separately, like if one needed an extra cone or a spare battery etc.

There are plenty of options for a little carry case for your juice etc. By the way, there is a brand new product called U-Can made by Innokin, a little metal ejuice bottle that can be hung on a keying.

Cheapest price I have seen for the Joye eRoll is at HealthCabin.net.

Have fun and happy vaping.

Instead of a pcc you could opt for some big ... batties like me. I use 2 ego-twists of 1000mah. One lasts me the whole day. The other one is in the charger. with a mini vivi nova on top this is a for me perfect. Although its quite large and maybe not as easy to carry around with you. i started out with a mini sig from nexgen and although the flavour was quite good, i was swapping batties each hour. and buying cartridges like crazy. I don't know the new mini-sigs mentioned above but be aware that they just don't hold out as long as the e-sigars so to speak.

I'll throw in another vote for the Volt. It's wonderful for a cig-a-like, they have a couple different PCC's available, and amazing customer service. They also have clearos that are made for the cig-sized batteries if you want to refill with liquid.

I've tried other minis, but the Volt is the only one that got me to quit smoking

No doubt. I'll probably upgrade to something a bit classier once I know for sure if this is going to work for me, which I really hope it does. I figure if I start with something small, I'll still get use out of it after I upgrade when I want portability. Maybe I'll get something fancy for home use later, and keep whichever small unit I purchase first for outings.

Great advice guys. I'm checking all of this stuff out.

I like that Volt. The PCC fits the bill as far as being able to cart around extra bits and pieces.

A couple of questions:

Are the cartomizers on those compatible with other brands? I've read that the threading on most of these complies to one of a few standards. What other options do I have there, besides what's on the Smokeless Image site? Can I find tank/atomizer combos that'd fit in the cartomizer slots in that PCC to carry them around conveniently?

Pretty much the same question for the battery: Can I buy batteries elsewhere with the same threading and charge them in the Volt charger?

I'll probably think of more, but let's start there. Thanks for being so forthcoming with the knowledge everyone. It's greatly appreciated.

One more:

From the Smokeless Image blank cartomizer page:

Our blanks are a clean slate. Want to experiment with different e-liquids? Our high performance blanks let you fill them with your favorite juices!
(just make sure to never fill them on an automatic battery)

Regarding the parenthetical bit: Maybe it's just the wording that's throwing me off, but I'd think it'd be obvious not to fill something while it's connected to the battery, or are they saying there's some reason I shouldn't use self-filled blank carts at all with auto batteries?

Not to fill them while connected to a battery. This it to prevent accidental leaking from the bottom of the carto to the battery connection. It is better to fill or top up a carto, blow some excess out into a tissue, dry the threads carefully, then connect back to the battery. (Some of us get lazy and do a quick top up with the carto still connected to the battery :p).

I realized that's sort of all the same question. If the threads are the same, and we stay within the length of the charging case, everything should just fit, right? Or no? Are there battery voltage considerations I should be looking at if I do that?

If the threads are the same, you're good to go. The Volt PCC's are great (I recommend the Mega V2, the Slider doesn't hold much). In regards to the questions I didn't quote, there are a couple of standard threadings (510 style and 808 style), and a few more less used threadings. The Volt is 808 threaded, which isn't as common as 510. Anything 808 will work with the Volt setup, but Smokeless Image makes arguably the best 808 equipment around, so looking for other brands isn't a big deal.

When you fill up cartos (or any other delivery system), they can leak out of the bottom if you overfill them. If they leak on an automatic battery, it can fry it. Manuals aren't affected as much, but it still isn't good for them. Bottom line is you're better off filling off of batteries no matter what (unless you're dripping).
