Newbie in need of help and advice on first purchase

First, a bit about me. 1-2 Pack a day habit of Camel regular / non filters a day for the last 10 years.

Also, just to get it out of the way, I work in a court house, so I need something a bit inconspicuous as I can't pull out some huge PV and puff away without getting odd stares, which I hate.

I'm looking to start with something to kind of dip my toes in the water so to speak, and after a couple weeks of poking around the forums here, have decided on a KR808

Battery life isn't a problem as I'm chained to a desk all day, and I don't really care if I get a ton of vapor or not. I would, however prefer a decent throat hit.

There's just a few questions I'm hoping someone can help me with before I order, and yes I know that most of them probably can't be reliably answered.

1) How many "puffs" on average can you get out of a standard KR808 cart? Also, how does the battery hold up vs puffs?

I don't want to haul around an entire stores worth of product if all I'll need is something that will fit in my pocket, or vice versa.

2)Nicotine levels, suggestions on what to get?

I tend to smoke a half pack during 8 hrs of work then another whole pack once home in ther afternoon. I don't want to end up with to little and be craving / puffing away all day, or too much and end up poisoning myself.

3)How much juice / carts would I need for a typical week?

I'm dropping atleast $50 a week on analogs right now. I'd like to be able to spend that, or less by making a direct switch to PV's but if it's going to end up costing out the ... then, aside from the health advantages I don't know if it'd be worth it for me.

4) Where to buy everything?

I've seen a ton of sites with decently priced PV's but I've not done much research on juice. So I'm looking for a decent price on a starter kit + cartomizers (or juice if i decide to start refilling to save $$)

Welcome Strigol and congrats on wanting to quit... I'm fairly new also but after smoking atleast 2 pks a day for oveer 40 years I have been smoke free for over 12 days... I found that 24mg nicotine works best for me right now. The vapor (compairable to analog smoke) and type of juice gives you the throat hit that compares to analog cigs. The kr808 will prpbably work for you at the office and the carts I find will give you about the same as 3-4 analogs. You might want to look into a passthrough while at work as you are chained to a desk. A passthrough runs off a USB port so you don't have to worrie about running out of battery.

You might want to review this post for some additional insite from other heavy smokers http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ego-type-models/163146-ego-t-vs-go-go.html. I am using the GoGo and it provides what I'm looking for. Cartridges last all day and the battery lasts 24 hours.

Hope this helps and good luck...

Ok, here's my shot at answering.

1) most companies say they are worth about 10-15 cigarettes. Check the companies details to be sure what they boast.

2) Probably 18-24mg to start with. Many recommend getting the higher and lower dose (a range if you will) and experiment.

3) How much you need is based on how much you vape. There's no solid answer for this but most agree that the first week or two, you will probably vape more only because of the newness and the lack of trigger to put it down. Cigarettes burn out... vaporizers do not. Three packs should be a good start (at 5 to a pack). That's two cartomizers a day, assuming you're not dripping with them.

4) This is the unanswerable question. V4L (which I use) is a great company. There are others out there that offer cartos for 808s though I don't know much about them. Anyone that shops regularly from a company is clearly happy with the product they are receiving or else they wouldn't be a repeat customer.

my 2 cents:

Start with a fruity flavor. those tend to be most true to taste and easy to pick out since you are already aware of what flavors of fruit you like. Try sampler packs whenever possible. Samplers will help you figure out what you -really- like, enough to invest in 10ml or 30ml of juice worth. Same idea applies with the fruity flavored juice as with the cartos if you purchase juice during your first order.

If you smoke a pack a day, you might want to go with something that has a larger battery. I tend to go through about 3 charges a day with my 510, and while I like that it is the same size and shape of an analog, I've finally upgraded. By the time you buy a PCC, extra batteries, carts, etc. you might as well go with an eGo, ev torch, or something similar. It will cost you less in the long run.

I'm pretty new so I can't answer most of these. I can say that my hubby, adult daughter and I all switched over together. Hubby and I smoked 1-2 pack per day (me lights him full flavored) daughter 1/2 -1 pack a day full flavored... We spent $54 on our first e-juice order it equaled 80ml... We made another order already but not because we're anywhere near out. We ordered larger bottles of two flavors because we really liked them and ordered 5 new flavors to try.

I'd say we could get another week or two out of this first order by looking at what we've gone through so far. We were lucky in that we didn't get any flavors we just can't tolerate and a cple I wasn't too fond of have improved after sitting open for a couple days.

Prices vary so shop around but with some self control after the initial pv investment vaping can easily be cheaper than smoking.

Keep in mind that the initial purchase can be cheaper to slightly more expensive than a carton of premium analogs, depending on what kit you buy. If you smoke a pack a day that means it pretty much pays for itself in 8 days.

Well in the worst case I think it pays for itself in how much better you feel (based on what other members have said). I'd say if we added it all up accounting for how long the juice will last us we will have broke even for the 1st couple weeks and save after that.

If you want an analog-like experience i would go with the bloog. If it is greater throat hit, The V4l batteries are great. If you get a kr808 batt get the bloog cartos. They are the best out there, IMHO.

I love my bloog batteries and carto combo. My daughter and son in law love the V4l batteries. But, we all agree the bloog cartos are the best.

If you go to the New Members forum there are stickies at the top of the page. One is full of very helpful videos. The Title is "I make videos for Newbies". She boasts starting for $80. I didn't check out the prices so I can't confirm that it's a true number. However, she suggests some extras. If you are willing to pay $50 a week for a couple of weeks then I would suggest getting a starter kit this week (will cost you around $50 alone) and next week focus on the extras you will need (extra batteries, trying out different juice flavors/strengths). There are nice 808 cases that hold 2 batteries and 4 cartomizers. That should last you a whole day at work. And if you go with a pass-through (which I highly recommend) then you might want to look into a wall plug with the usb connection, I have heard of reports of the PT shorting out and frying motherboards. If you are going to use it on a work computer you probably don't want to fry anything. You just have to make sure its the right volt/AMP rating. There are threads about the correct numbers...I believe it's 5V===2A. I tried it on a 5V===1A last night and it's no good, you definitely want 2A!! You can probably find these at any store or you can buy from an ecig comany online (might be more expensive, I haven't checked prices).
Personally I buy from Vapor4Life and I carry 2 fully charged batteries along with 3 cartomizers and that lasts me all day. I use a pass-through once I get home. Cartomizers usually last me 2-3 hours depending on how much I fill them, and I vape pretty constantly. Never counted "puffs" so I don't know about that. You will quickly learn that ecigs are all about trial/error and your own tastes no matter what anyone says.
Good luck, welcome and congrats on wanting to switch! You can do it!! Don't be put off by the prices, it is possible to buy things on a budget if you want to!

Ok, so a little intro!

I started vaping last year in May. Started with the $40.00 Boge 510's with the manual battery. Used them every day having always 2 extra batteries on myself when going about the day. Hassle if you ask me, to be carrying around the extra Batt. just to stay in the safe zone. It was hell to get a nice battery would supply the voltage needed to get a nice drag.. having to resort to 4 or 5 puffs on the dang thing just to get a hit! That's when I decided to try something to ask for help and posted a question
Tired of my 510's Need help!!

Some folks here were so kind to give me some advice and I place an order of the Riva 510's

Ok, hopefully last question here. I've been looking for KR808's with manual bat's in the starter kits, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking at unless they specify it's an KR8. Anyone mind filling me in on some of the popular brands of KR8's as I've been looking but can't really find a comprehensive list that's up to date.

It's very confusing. KR808 are the two piece models that look "similiar' to a cigarette. LiteCigUSA, V4L, nhaler, Bloog, RockyMtnVapors, LibertyFlights, Smoke Tip all carry KR808's.
