Hello forum folks!

I have to start by saying that you all just simply ROCK! Helpful, informative, friendly..... I'm so very glad I found this forum.

My search for information began in the wee hours of Thur morning, March 19. I am a customer service rep, and about two months ago one of my customers mentioned to me about “electric cigarettes” and had directed me to a seller on Ebay. I just now took the time to investigate, and could kick myself for waiting for so long. I started at Ebay, but wasn't much impressed.

Next search...Google. You gotta love Google, no? Through a search, I somehow ended up at E-Smoking101.com The pics of the various e-cigs and the info on the “lingo” was a huge help. Via a link from Tristan's site, I ended up here.

Watching reviews, I was simply shocked. Could it possibly be that the main thing that keeps me smoking - the ritual - could be done in a safer way? Review after review I watched as person after person inhaled and exhaled with this glorious haze of vapor surrounding them. My excitement grew into a frenzy. I couldn't get enough information! I was on a mission....

It was a marathon surf session (that lasted 36 straight hours and spent 2 packs of analogs) of YouTube reviews, scouring this forum, and checking out the vendor's sites. I went from wanting something that looked exactly like an analog to wanting an e-cig that looked nothing like an ana. I've seen other newbies posts and I have to agree - deciding what (not if) to buy, was a challenge.

Spike, thank you for the Comprehensive Intro to vaping. Very informative and cleared up some questions that I had after surfing the forum. Thanks to you, I've decided on the M401.

Parked, thanks for the ease of navigation at DietSmokes The reviews on each page are a wonderful touch. Your prices and selection are great! I just placed my first e-cig order with you this morning, and I suspect that it will be far from the last.

Ritalee76 and the rest of you here, thanks for the laughs yesterday before Puresmoker.com came to life: Puresmoker - Okay, I'm a dork... (not allowed to post the link yet). It truly showed me the humor that runs through this group.

Sorry this post got so long! :)

Thanks for the welcome, Vicks. I'm sure the questions will come. In fact, I do have one now.

After I posted, I had some errands and one of my stops was Walgreens. I've read about some of the symptoms to look for when first starting the vapor, one of them being a sore throat. The cause being irritation from the PG. I picked up a bottle of saline nasal spray to help cut down the coating on the back of my throat. I was wondering if anyone else had tried this and if so, the results.

I've never thought to try that, but it's worth a shot.

I helped cut down on the irritation by keeping a bottle of water or something to drink nearby. Regardless of being a new user or old, PG will dry your throat out, thus causing these problems when you're really not used to it.

The initial phase of irritation doesn't last long, but it's not comfortable.

My first drag off an e-cig was hesitant.... I'd done some reading here and was well-warned that vapor is drier and more harsh than analog smoke...

I took my first couple of drags and didn't inhale, just wanting to get a taste, and yes, my mouth did know the difference. My first inhale was a very small puff of vapor, followed by several other small puffs of vapor to get my throat acclimated to this.

I'd say it took me about a week to fully acclimate to the drier vapor - now It's just business as usual - I vape, therefore I am. ;)

Thanks for the welcome D_Struct and the feedback from you both. I'll let you all know what the outcome is. I find it odd that the vapor should be any harsher/dryer than the smoke from an ana.

One of the other errands that I had today was to hit the local smoke shop for what I'm hoping like hell is the LAST carton of analogs that I ever have to buy. That shipment from DietSmokes can't get here fast enough. LOL

It's the high concentration of Propylene Glycol.

It's a Humectant.

Can be good or bad, but introducing a high concentration of a new chemical into the body can be tough, especially on the skin or throat.

Like it was stated earlier, after about a week, the irritation isn't much of an issue.

Welcome to your new hobby.

I'd advise you to stock up on smoke juice while you can since your FDA seems to prefer you to smoke cigarettes.

Our government luckily appears to be leaving vapers alone for the moment.

Are you insinuating that our beloved :nun: FDA might be in the pockets of big tobacco? Well, I never (thouight to say that out loud before....)

'They' are doing whatever they can to shut down e-smoking over here as well.

Recently a highly misleading news story came out (and was featured on the BBC) which claimed that e-cigs were more dangerous than real cigarettes and implied they were being freely sold to children.

For most of the public this inaccurate story was the first they had ever heard of e-cigs.

I'd like to know how a child could afford ecigs.
Daddy, what's your paypal account password?

What drives me nuts is when the "reporters" (and I use the term loosely) claim that eliquid is Pure Nicotine - as in:

"Instead of inhaling the 4000 or so chemicals in a regular cigarette, this device vaporizes a solution of pure nicotine and the user inhales that instead."

If any of them would do their homework, they'd find that the ratio of nicotine to other, inert ingredients, is rather low.
