Hey everyone, first I want to say thanks to all the people who make this forum so useful. I really hate that I didn't find it sooner. My wife has been trying to quit smoking for a while, and started with the gas station disposable ecigs, then moved on to Blu. Unfortunately that's where she stayed for way too long. Like, multiple years too long...
It's an ok place to start. She liked the flavor and it satisfied the need when she had good cartridges. But she often had issues with dud cartridges and batteries crapping out, and smoking analogs at work because of weak battery/cartridge life. It was expensive. For whatever reason, what very little I knew about refillable carts just sounded like it could be too much of a hassle. I just in the past few months figured out how very wrong I was.
I finally looked into it a little and ended up picking up a starter kit for her at a local shop with a 900mah ego c2 pass-through with redux clearomizer and she loved it instantly. Since then I've spent quite a bit of time Googling (which almost always leads me here) and watching Youtube vids from Grimmgreen, Rip Trippers, PBrusardo and a few others, learning a TON about a vape world I never knew existed. I even enjoyed puffing on her ego from time to time, so I grabbed an ego twist and a couple Kanger t3s clearomizers. She's not really into everything involved, but just wants something that works. But now I've found myself really interested in going further trying out some things that she might also like more.
So onto a couple questions... First, I definitely want to try some DIY juice, and have found several sites with some juice supplies, as well as an older list or two on here. Is there any general consensus as to where to go for quality flavor extracts or is it pretty much just luck of the draw finding what you like, as with premixed juices?
As far as making the next step, I'm not quite ready for expensive mods or separate batteries and chargers just yet, but was wondering what might be the best I could get out of an ego. I'm still not totally sure of which thread types are used by which. Are the larger tanks and mods mostly 510, so like the Protank 2/3 would fit with an ego inner threading? Or are they different? If so, would the ego be strong enough to get good vapor and hit from the larger or should I just try a Protank mini or similar for an ego?
I'm interested in trying to make my own coils at some point in the near future. I'm thinking my first one I'll probably try a micro on a Protank 2 or mini, from watching Grimm and Rip. I understand all of the building steps, but one thing I'm unclear about is the wattage. Seems like all of the build videos I've seen use power that's way in the red of the voltage charts I've found around here, and beyond the voltage of these egos. Is that just because the chart is really more for cheap manufactured coils and a good quality DIY coil with cotton can withstand much more or is there something else I'm missing? Also, would a good rebuild of a Protank/mini or similar still be significantly better vape on an ego, or in the green area on the chart (3.5-4v/7-10w)?
Sorry so wordy, but thanks again to the community for the help already received. A couple months ago I wouldn't understand most of what I just typed.
