I have found the 510 is great for me. I have some attys that are 8 months old and still going. I have noticed that the batteries last less and less over time.

I have gotten 401 from 2 different vendors. They were great at first, but they died too fast.

I think I would agree and go with the ego or a simular version.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy it here.;)

I started with an e-Healthy 401. Saw this in a local cigarette shop and bit the hook with a $28.00 price tag. I went back a week later to buy more carts but after reading and learning, I quickly started looking for my alternatives. I wish I had all the money that first-timers throw away on curiosity and impulse buying but you have to take the plunge at some point.

My mainstay now it a 3.7 box mod with a sealed 501 connector and a 501 cartomizer. I love it! It just looks suspicious sucking on it in public. looks like I'm hitting a crackpipe, lol!

My first kit was an M401 with all the upgrades that I way overpaid for at the mall (over double the price listed at absolute ecig after you upgrade kit there).. Liked it, eliquid flavors vape and taste better with it I think BUT it is too high maintenance, especially when you are a newbie.. I went through 3 atomizers within 2 weeks and now my 4th one is near death.. It floods easily, perhaps due to the thicker/darker VG juices I used and it also gives you a burnt taste if atomizer isn't wet, the latter probably being reason it floods easily for you have to constantly keep it undried.. Still it is the best looking kit out of all the ones I have style wise, loveeee the PCC pack and I do plan on using it again one day but I wouldn't recommend you start with one of them.. If you ever do get one though, get the manual (button).

I've used alot of different model's. I use mostly 401's and 510's, and kr8 carto's on occasion.
510's absolutely do outlast the 401's imo atty life wise.
401's tend to just die *bam-dead*. 510's are a gradual fade and I have had them last month's, they also have a bit more umph to them. 401's I get more flavor with, but they tend to leak ugh.
I use and love both for different reason's.
A good route to go if you can , get a 401 for out and about and for the need a cig in hand feel, get a ego or 510 mod for longer life around the house. (This is my setup I use, I don't like to take large honking mods out in public)

I've gotten all my pals on the screwdriver MKII.The reason for this is it does not have a switch that WILL fail.Every device I've had so far with a wired switch has gone to hell after a couple of months of use.And mailing them back when it's your favorite device sucks. Now I did have a screwdriver break on me.It got smashed in my pocket at work,so it was my fault. The service at totally wicked was ok,but not great. It took 9 weeks to get a replacement. So I do have a bit of a problem recommending their product. But from what all I've had(chuck,protege,dse905)they all quit working and have been sent back more than once(except dse905 wrote that off as a loss).Out of all of those, the sdmkII is the easiest to use and hits like a cannon. The chuck hit harder, but after two switch failures,I'm done with it.

Hi Mistress! Your head spinning yet with info overload!! lol

I'll just add a couple of links so you can look at pretty pictures and get an idea of what all those model numbers look like. They gave me a good information foundation to make an intelligent choice

The only recommendation I'd add...and it's only imo because I'm still relatively new...is since you are a hard core smoker, start with a relatively higher nic level because it's much easier to cut if it's too strong vs. increasing it if too weak (24/25 mg might be a reasonable level).

Glad to have here Mistress!

Yup, I'm totally there!

I'm just super confused now. I really like the sound of the KR808, and it's close enough to ciggie-shaped that my addictive, habitual mind wouldn't throw a fit. But to me... the cartomizer feels like a big, big draw back. I am more than willing to tinker and adjust and do whatever to make stuff last. But it seems like the cartomizer is naturally limiting.

The 510 seems more flexible, but costs more than the 401 starter and has most of the same potential flaws.

And I really am on a VERY tight budget. I pretty much have to get this right the first time.

Does anyone know if there are separated atomizers and cartridges used for the KR808? Because if so that would be pretty much perfect, if I can swing the price. There seem to be a couple places that sell them at competitive prices with the M401 kits I was looking at.

You have to look to see what's included in your starter kits. Here's a good price $35 on the Joye 510:

Joye 510 NO BOX

You get two full ecigs - 2 batteries, 2 atomizers and charger plus carts. Some of those M400 kits and some 901 kits have two batteries but one atomizer and if you burn out an atomizer you're going to 7-11 for cigs.

Free Shipping if you go to $59 or more - good idea to get ejuice WITH your order, rather than from another source. Sometimes shipping is only 2 days from cignot, no customs worries or high shipping costs (although sometimes that can be justified when buying bulk).

Later you can upgrade to an eGo for just the cost of the battery, cone and charger. The 510 atty adapter is used in many mods and if you want to run an atomizer from a KR8 you need a 901 or an adapter for anything else. And you're pretty much right on as far as those cartoz go, imo. Bland cartomizers are a better - use your own ejuice and there are 510 cartoz if you want to try them.

Cool! I'll keep that in mind if I wind up landing on the 510. Though at the moment, knowing I can use 901 carts with it, I'm more swayed towards the KR808.

Does anyone have any experience with Heaven Gifts? They've got a starter kit under $30 (it'll be about $40 after S&H but that's still pretty awesome).

The KR8 with the 901 would be my choice over cartomizers actually. And heaven gifts is a prime Chinese retailer - Wayne who runs it is very accessible. Shipping is $14 under .5kg so it is always good to get a bunch of stuff when ordering there. The prices are hard to beat but you just have to buy enough to justify the shipping. The KR8 line now has their own 'eGo' called Elegant available at cigeasy.com. No reviews that I've seen yet. Just shipped this week but looks like a better solution to longer battery life than the XL, imho, although some like those 'loooong skinny batts' (inside joke for Don BBV bum bum).
