I'm looking at purchasing my first ecig and have been doing A LOT of research. I've seen the different types and feel like I've narrowed it down to either a Blu or Bloog MaxxFusion. The biggest thing that I'm looking for in an ecig is that it must look like a normal cigarette. I know it probably sounds stupid, but it's somewhat important to me that it look and feel like I'm holding an actual cigarette. I understand that I won't be able to find the same taste and (after reading many posts on the ECF) won't really want it to taste like a real cigarette. From everything that I've read, both Blu and MaxxFusion have this look factor. I've seen really great reviews for MaxxFusion and mixed reviews for Blu (mostly bad older reviews for the Blu with separate atomizer and cartridge, but fairly positive ones for the newer cartomizer version). So, I guess what my real questions are are does anyone have any good stories about the new version Blu or good or bad experiences with the MaxxFusion? And, what level of nicotine should I begin with? I've been smoking for fourteen years; I currently smoke Camel Blues (Lights); and simply enjoy smoking (the act of smoking is relaxing to me and obviously the nicotine). I want to either simply trade vaping for smoking or, ultimately, to quit all together. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I don't know much about blu. I thought I read that people consider them overpriced? Not sure.

More comparable would be bloog vs volt (from smokeless image). Pretty much the same. Can't go wrong with either choice.

Just recommend you go with a manual battery, although not exactly like smoking (since you have to press a button), but less chance of you poo-pooing your batt with a leak.

Welcome to ecf and best of luck.

i've heard a TON of bad things about the BLU. my coworker got one and the thing would run out of battery power all the time because the slightest breeze would send the sensor off as if you were taking a "drag". he would have to unscrew the cart unless he was actively using it. the throat hit and flavor of their cartridges were sub par IMO as well. also, their prices seem CA-RAZY!

i'm currently vaping the bloog maxxfusion and i really love it (about 2 months now). i am, however, going to try out the Volt form Smokeless Image since after a little research it seems to be the same model as the MF, just cheaper. that model has also gotten good reviews here on the site as well.

i would recommend a nicotine level around 18mg if you were a moderate to heavy smoker. i used to smoke a pack to a pack and a half a day and i only vape at 6mg or 0mg. i'm really more addicted to "smoking" than i am to the nicotine. plus i have to cut back on stimulants because of a heart condition.

good luck

Although I dislike auto batteries, especially with cartomizers since autos are more likely to be damaged by any juice leaks, Bloog is a much beefier unit. Bloog is a KR808D-1, a real 3.7v mini and if you get the standard size batteries it will have almost 3x the charge of a Blu. Even the shorty Bloog has 2x the charge of a Blu battery,

Good luck, looking like an analog is the least reason I would ever buy a mod. I buy mods for their performance.

pssst, he's not looking for a mod. Dude's looking to start out. He said he wants one that looks like an analog.

If you want to persuade him, perhaps you should post about batt life, switching, etc etc to convince him otherwise. Your post doesn't really help him/ her out.

Blu is pricey. The Maxx is cheaper but you could go even less expensive by getting a KR808D-1 setup that doesn't have a name on it. That's what I use. It's the same thing as the Maxx or Volt it just doesn't have a name on it. That's kinda cool, 'cuz I ain't helping to line any company pockets by giving them free advertising.

Welcome to ECF and the world of vaping.
My first ecig was a Blu and while the small size is nice the batteries just didn't last long enough and it didn't get me off the cigarettes. I then went with an 808 and that did it for me. I have since tried quite a few ecigs, it seems to have become a whole new shopping habit, but still like my auto 808's which are the same size as the Bloog Maxxfusions. I think that is a great first choice for an ecig.
As far as what level of nicotine you should start with, I smoked about 3/4 pad and started with 18mg but went down to 12 pretty fast. Right now I am all over the place from 0 to 24mg.
Unfortunately there is no one size fits all answer for the ecig, the flavor, the nicotine level or any of the myriad of questions that come up. But I do know that reading here has answered more questions than any place else I have checked out.
Good luck with it all

I would suggest a cheap 510 kit... Pure smoker has a kit for$35 right now. That way you can figure out if its something you really want to peruse. If you like it then spend some dough on something your comfortable with in public.

Don

I totally disagree. A cheap 510 kit performs nothing like the bloog/volt 808's. Price isn't everything guys. What's $100 start up cost really going to matter if the op can stop smoking. Buy a bloog or volt starter kit, and start with 24mg juice. If the throat hit or harshness is important to you, you should go with no more then 30% Vg juices. You will obviously adjust your preferences as you get the hang of everything, but with the bloogs, I was able to get myself and four family members to quit lifelong smoking habits. I highly recommend bloog or volt! Good luck!

Here are a couple of other options that are comparable to the Bloog...

G6 Basic Starter Kit - G6 E-Cig

Elite Vaporworks

I ordered a G6 from Halocigs around 7pm on the 19th. It was shipped first thing on the 20th and tracking shows it due to be delivered on the 22nd. That is fast and I can say the customer service is great. I haven't bought anything from elitevaporworks but they do offer a PCC kit that you can personalize by color of battery and what not, so I thought I would include that as well.

Nice little kits for the money, and they also have good prices on the batteries as singles:
KR808D1

I still like minis for stuff like golfing, fishing, and hosting parties.

Just me, but instead of a PCC I like this multi-charger-thing and a hand full of batteries.

To get the multi-charger to work with the 808 batteries you'll need some-of-these-adapters (510>901/808).

With that sort of charger, you can also pick up a few 510 batteries for a song and a dance if you like and be set to charge either type, or grab youself some-of-these-adapters (901>510) for the KR808D-1 batteries to have access to the world of lower resistance (hotter) 510 cartos.

Cartos with native 808 threads abound and most are pretty good. If you want to try some of the more exotic stuff like CE2/Sapphaire/Vortex/G5 tank-cartos no problem...if the resitance you want doesn't come with 808/901 threads you can use the adapter.

The 808 batteries do run a little hotter (higher voltage) than the 510 (a good thing to me). How long the mini batteries last between charges seriously depends on the cartos you use, and your draw length/frequency.

I have big battery mods, juice feeders, and the list goes on...and even with all that I still much enjoy: KR808D-1 Auto-Mini-Battery with a 2.4 Ohm CE2 (the short metal ones using the flat caps that come with them [needs 808>510 adapter]). These make a great hands free vape (great for golfing, gardening, fishing, etc.) with a short hot airy puff...kinda like analog ciggies. The catch to a CE2 is that it takes a tool to fill them (syringe, needle tip bottle, or pippett), but I can fill a hand-full and go in less time than it takes to make a pot of coffee.

Hello, cas713

I've been vaping since last July, and I've vaped a KR808 the whole time because I really like the similarity to cigarettes too. When the Bloog came out last winter I tried it and have vaped nothing else since then. I find it to be smoother and stronger than other KR808s, and very reliably consistent. No problems or issues to deal with. The Bloog cartomizers are much better than others. They hold 20 drops of liquid when refilled, which is twice as much as others I've used.

My one complaint is that the cartos cost more than I like to spend. However, 1) there is a discount by ordering in quantity; 2) Bloog runs sales occasionally, which I wait for; and 3) I find the cartos can be refilled many more times than others, and refilling does cut the cost a LOT.

I use only chocolate cartomizers and I get refill liquid from Vapor4Life. (Later on, you might want do this too: I get 36mg liquid and cut it down to about 5-6mgs by diluting it with flavoring from Capella Flavor Drops along with PG and VG. Check the DIY forum for details on that when ready.) By finding my favorite flavor early on, I saved a lot of money experimenting. I just don't want anything else, chocolate always tastes right to me.

You don't *have to* buy a starter kit if you don't want to. I'd recommend no less than two batteries and one charger though. Bloogs hold a charge for several hours of constant vaping; longer length batts last longer. I personally like the automatics (just be careful not to get liquid dripped into them from overfilled cartos). My orders from Bloog take about 4 days, and it's about the same from V4L - make sure to get at least enough cartomizers to last until you can reorder. The one bad thing about vaping is that you can't run out to the corner gas station for supplies at the last minute.

Everything else about vaping is all good though. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have this past year. :)

Ann

p.s. The reason I would not choose a Blu is that it's a 3-piece. 2-piece KR808s are simplier, there is no need to mess around with separate atomizers. Atomizers are not only more trouble, they're an additional cost.

I have to disagree. I've tried KR808s- Smoke Tip, V4L, Volt and out of all the mini's I think you get the best vape with a 510. Better TH, easier draw.

Personally, I think mini's are an expensive way to go. You need all the extra batteries, pcc, etc. A setup to keep you vaping is going to cost you well over $100 when you can get an ego for $30. But that's me.

As far as the best vape, I'd say a 510 is best for me. It's still a battery hog. But that's true with any mini.

If you're in the Blu vs. Bloog mode, I'd also go with the Bloog, or, more specifically the next generation KR808D-1. Personally I was happy with standard 808s (actually, with 808 XL or Mega 380 mAh batteries).

Depending on price/lead time, for another next generation 808 you might look at NHaler's MF style 808 kits: KR808D-1 Products

NHaler's a solid vendor, coupon code save5.

As to auto vs. manual, frankly both have uses. I'm using manual variable voltage mods now, but the pv I keep for hands-free or inconspicuous use is a standard KR808D-1 auto XL. I get about 4-1/2 hours battery life, and as long as you are good about blowing out a carto onto a tissue to remove excess liquid before putting the carto on the battery, they seem to perform pretty well.

Good luck!
