Newbie looking for equipment advice

I am new to vaping. Been vaping for 2 months. I purchased a blu system which I didn't like. (lost both batteries in the first few days. Than started carrying the case and broke that the 1st day carrying it.) Anyways, now I am using a riva 510 with firefly atomizers. One broke. So I just bought a firefly battery so I have a backup.

Ok, here's my question....I want to purchase a better unit. I have Li on chargers and batteries for my flashlights. 10440, 18650, 14500. Everything I've read the variable voltage units seem to be the best. I want to direct drip. at least for now. Keep things simple. If I purchase a vv unit can I use my firefly atomizers? If not, what atomizers? Also, I want a tube type (I like the form ot the Riva). And not very intrested in using 18650 batteries (too big).

most Variable voltage tube mods are designed around the 18650 or 18500 batteries. There are some box mods that use 14500s. The mini lavatube/varitube uses a smaller battery and offers pretty good performance and is priced well.

NEW Mini Varitube X - Black Chrome - Mod only | Variable Voltage | MODS | iVAPE

Thats mod only but they have kits too. They also have other options and there are other sites that sell these products as well.

Fireflys will fit any 510 device so you can use it on any 510 device. Keep in mind if you want to stay a dripper that there are better atomizers out there like 306s or hh357s. You should check out avidvaper.com

Have you looked at or considered an ego twist? Similar size to the riva and gives you variable voltage for around $20.

Hi flickoftheswitch and welcome to ECF and to vaping. There is a lot of information on the site and people are always happy to answer any questions, so feel free to ask away!

Yes, variable voltage is great. One of the best bang for your buck power supplies right now in VV are eGo Twist batteries and they have a very similar form factor as your Riva's, they are just longer. They have the same 510 connection and you will be able to use the FireFly atomizers with them. You might be able to use the same Riva charger you already have, but I'm not sure. Do not try it until you know for sure, or you could start a fire or worse. Hopefully someone else who knows will let us both know. If you do need a new charger, they are about $10, so not a biggie. The Twists go for about $25, depending on what capacity you chose - 650 mah to 1000 mah. I don't think your flashlight chargers will work because the Twist batts are built into a battery holder like the Riva's are, so you can't take the cell out.

As for atomizers, there are a lot on the market and they are not expensive. I have a couple I use for testing new juices, but mostly I use clearomisers and tanks, so I can't help with this. Best of luck on your journey.

I think I may try the ego twist. Can I use any 510 or 306 atomizers? Or do I need another part? Do I need a cone just for that model? Can I use a 510 drip tip? Thanks for the tip on the 306's and 357's. I'll try some on my next order.

As Thrasher said, you can use any 510 accessory on the Twist batteries. As Bullette said, 306 also works. For drip tip selection check this out. You will see that 510 and 901 are the same, but 306 are different.

So, if you want to you can simply screw on any 510 or 306 atomizer, put a drip tip on it and vape. One thing you will find is that when you over-drip, juice will leak out the bottom of the atomizer and over your battery (and fingers). A drip shield like this helps control it. Read whet they say on that page about needing an adapter and look at the pictures to see how it gets assembled onto your PV. Essentially, it's just a tube with a couple of O-rings inside that catches any leaking juice.

bigsmke- I'm new to this and didn't know about drip shields. I'm just starting to try dripping and so far I've used just a 510 atty on my ego c battery. I'm trying to figure out if these work for attomizers or only cartomizers. I just ordered some cartomizers and cones to complete the look, but now I'm wondering if a drip shield would do the same and also be more functional. I don't like leaky drippy messes.

Drip sheilds are only for atomizers, not needed for cartomizers. Are these the cartomizers you ordered?

Edit: I'm confused . My link above goes to atomizers, not cartos, but it was the only thing I could find which references cones also. Please let me know where I've gone wrong phxemt.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this will work just fine for you. I think the cone will screw onto the battery and do the same job that a drip shield does for the atties. The cone will also work with the cartos to finish the look. If you do end up having issues, email the vendors and ask them what the right parts are. They will be able to tell you exactly what you need.

Thanks for all the advice. I guess I should be using a drip shield instead of the cone with my atomizers so I can get air flow and so juice dosen't get on the battery. Is the EGO-C the same as the EGO twist?

The twist is a little longer due to it's ability to allow you to turn up(or down) the heat/volts.
It is a nice option to have for an extra 5-10 bucks.imo.:vapor:
