Bienvenue à ECF! Congratulations to you! Don't worry about your english. We sometimes murder our own language. Vape on!
Heh, only sometimes?
I realized late in life my one true love (as it were) was language. I went the wrong direction. My interest in computer programming was just a sliver of a general interest. Tried shifting gears in the late 90s to early 00s but I managed to be in New Orleans when all THAT happened and got a bit derailed in... well... everything.
But anyway, was working on my masters in anthro/linguistics and, I tell ya, English is one weird language. It makes the least sense of just about any other one on the planet. Not the kind of language you would think would rise to global prominence. But it has. To a great extent
because of its... oddities? You can mangle the daylights out of it and still communicate. The spelling is a disaster and the grammar is a total kludge that's so loose, it's just asking to be scrambled. And yet it works anyway.
Heh, I have online friends that are a bit fanatical about "proper grammar" and all. I love to razz them. They come up with a "you can't do that" rule and I come back with, "oh yeah, watch this!" and twist grammar into weird balloon shapes. Then ask, "you understand that?" They
hate having to admit they did. They want the "rules" to be nice and neat and English just refuses to cooperate.
