hey all, newbie here, still trying to get all this info under my belt. Hell, Im not sure if I understand even half of the info I read! so heres my Q.

I bought some LR (1.8) attys for my protank mini, and the first one I used i kept the voltage on my ego ctwist where i kept it for all my other non-LR (roughtly 2.5ish) attys/coils/whatevers (iclears, vivi nova, another protank) which was about 4 volts....but it seemed that at 1.8 ohms and 4 volts i burned that sucker up quick.... i needed to replace it like 2 days later. so, since then Ive been following the Kanger guidelines, which says for 1.8 vols i need to be somewhere around 3.2, maybe a bit higher, but Im not getting the kind of hit/vape I would like...But like i said, I dont wanna burn thru coils in 2 days either!

so, would a too high voltage really kill a LR coil much faster? my BF does the same thing and his coils (same brand, just not a mini) seem to last a lot longer).

thankful for any input!!

Same coils should be the same results. Only thing I can think of is that I've noticed on my MVP tht the ohms aren't always exactly as they say they are on the box of coils. I've had a 1.8 read at 2.2 once. Could be your boyfriends coils are higher then what you used. Or, it could be that your ego is running hotter. You could try building your own protank coils, or rewicking them. Generally speaking though, yes, you will burn through coils faster when you increase voltage.

the best choice is to set it at the voltage that gives you the best flavor. Now sweet or dark liquids will gunk up a coil much faster than a nonsweet or light liquid - I use a sweet liquid but I will get at least 20-25ml before I need to replace the coil

now chain vaping with a mini PT may cause the eliquid to carmelize quicker due to a smaller amount of liquid in the tank will heat up quicker

Here is a good chart for recommended volts to ohms

hope this info helps

thanks dakota, but as a noob i kindof dont get the chart....like yes i see the 1.8 and the 3.00 but what does the 5.00 mean? and damnit if my fave liquids arent pretty dark! lol

The 5 is how many watts you will be vaping at. Some devices you can set the wattage (or power) directly on the battery, but in your case, it's not that important to know.
To use that chart, find your resistance on the left column, then look along the row and notice the green sections. These will show you at what voltage you can vape. So everything in the green for a 1.8 head shows voltage between 3 and 3.7v.

That chart is a good starting point, but I find it under-estimates how much voltage you can use. I usually use the rule of 2, meaning I add 2 to the resistance of my coil head and start there, adjusting up and down as necessary. So your 1.8ohm head I would start at 3.8 and adjust from there.

Using a higher voltage will not really reduce the life of the head you are using, but what I suspect is happening is it is burning your juice and that is gunking up your coil. I rinse my tank / clearo / heads under hot running water every 2/4 fills (depending how dark the juice is) I also do a dry burn every day or two - this will vastly improve the lifetime of the coil. I could get 3-5 weeks from one head doing this.

In summary - Just adjust your voltage up or down until it tastes good and clean your clearomizer regularly.
