I am a long time smoker who has tried the Blu e-cigs but did not find them to be a viable substitute for actual smoking. Worked ok when I was somewhere that smoking was not allowed. But was not something that would actually replace cigarettes. At least for me. A number of forum members told me I should get started with a REO grand with a RM2. But since I am new around here it's all Greek to me. I was hoping that some of you might be able to explain to me (like you are talking to a 7 year old) just what I need to get and where to get it, so I can get started. Photos and links help a lot. This is a whole new world to me. But after 30+ years with a package of Marlboros in my pocket it's time to make some changes. In another subforum they said you are some good people here so thank you in advance for all your great advice.

Reosmods.com is where to go to get the hardware. I would suggest searching YouTube for Reo's. There are some good videos including some by super_x_drifter that will get you started with the basics as well as coils, wicks, etc..
There are lots of people here who will be happy to help, but the videos are a good starting point if you're new to vapeing.

oh boy oh boy...we LOVE some new-to-be Reonauts!

When I finally got past the "kid stuff" as far as getting free of the cigarettes( a 50-plus years heavy smoker) and discovered the Reo i knew I was set for life.I'm old so a bit brain-dead but i will tell you that there will be many fellow Reonaughts that will see your post and be here quickly to guide you.
But I DO know that a Reo, whether a grand or a mini.2...hell, get one of each...you will anyway and sooner rather than later:D.... and an RM2 rebuildable atomizer....for each Reo:D

Don't fret about building your own coil/wick setup..there's tons of info . and videos... Superxdrifter has some in here and they're very clear and understandable.

Get yourself something cold to drink..or hot if that's your preference..and get comfy cuz the gang will be here shortly!

And welcome to the wonderful world of Reo vaping!

Look around at the "just got my", "it's here threads." lost of pics and good stories straight from new users.

As far as what I'd recommend.

The Reo Grand, an LP version
The LP Reomizer
Spare Reomizer screws
Spare o ring in both 1x10mm and 1.5 x10 mm
28 gauage kanthal wire
Two or three 18650 batteries, AW IMR 1600mah, Sony VTC5.
you get two bottles another one two could help as you try different juices.
Do you have a multimeter? If not a carto / atty ohm meter
Battery charger

You can get everything but battery, meter and charger from ReosMods and go to RTD to get the batteries.

When you look at the choices at Reosmods if don't see the color you want PM Rob, User name RedEyeDancer and he'll set you up.

Ask plenty of questions were a friendly bunch and love to help.

Welcome! I wish I had started with a REO, would have saved a lot of time and frustration.

After watching super_Xs video above, check out his others on building micro coils and his RM2 vids. He breaks it all down.

I would start with a Low Profile (LP) Grand with a LP RM2. The RM2 is a very easy atty to build on and will be a great one to start on. It has the added benefit of being a great vape too.

With your first order you may want to pick up a few extra bottles (they are cheap), a rebuild kit which will give you extra of all the parts that may eventually need to be replaced, a button cover if you like, some Kanthal wire and if you want, some silica (although a $3 bag of cotton balls will give you enough wick material to last a lifetime)

You will need 18650 batteries, a charger and juice and you will be loaded for bear.

Feel free to ask any questions, this isn't known as the friendliest place on earth for nothing:)

Edit: wow, am I slow tonight, lots of this already covered

Fancy meeting you here, MFarley.

Glad to see you found us. I see my fellow REOnauts have given you lots of good info. :)

Besides Super_X's vids, here's another worth watching and he goes through everything from the mod to the RM2 (topper) for it. He is using a Mini, and I'm thinking you'd go with a Grand - the only difference is size. Grands are the most popular and have 6ml juice bottles.

I just picked up my first Reo a couple of weeks ago after months of trial and error with many other inferior devices. I wish I had been wise enough to start with a Reo, as I essentially wasted enough money building up to it to buy a few more of them.

The Reo community is amazingly helpful and will get you through any questions or issues you may have getting started. You will not regret it!

Welcome and congratulations on your choice to get off the smokes.

The REO's Mods sub-forum is full of information but it can be overwhelming starting out.

visit Reosmods.com and click on the shop tab. This is where you will find all the goodies that are offered. The hardest choice is selecting a color or style. You really can't go wrong with any of them and you can always get a different style on your second purchase….yes you will make a second purchase…:)

You will need a REO, and an atomizer, cartomizer or rebuildable atomizer. I suggest the rebuildable Rob sells such as the RM2 or the IGO-BF. Both are great….
You will also need some wire for building a coil and some wick material. There are some listed on the site. You will also need batteries for the size mod you choose and a charger. The link on the Reosmods website will take you to another online store where you can get both. There are many battery choices but the REO's recommended battery is an AW IMR 18650 1600mah for the grands or the AW IMR 18490 1100mah for the Mini 2.1 models. There are many choices you will make but I suggest you start off with a basic set-up and then stay engaged in the forum and see what else interest you.

You did not mention if you have previous coil building experience or not so I will assume no. I suggest you read and watch all the video you can in order to get knowledge prior to your first coil build. You will need ohm meter or a digital multimeter and some basic tools.

Good luck with your choices.

Cant believe I left this out, RattlerX is right on, a good multimeter is a must.

I am new to the reo and everyone else has already given you the important information but I just wanted to welcome you to ecf. It is a wonderful place in my opinion. I have been happily vaping for over a years. Making my own juice. Wrapping my own coils. And I really had no idea vaping could get much better. I was wrong. My juices taste so much better with the rm2 on a reo grand. You wouldn't think it would make that much difference. You will not regret this decision to purchase a reo. Not to mention the wonderful family you seem to acquire as the result. :) It is just nice to know that you have dependability and craftsmanship at your fingertips. Good luck to you and I look forward to your future posts. Good luck to ya whatever you decide and happy vaping. :)

Lots of good advice here for you. The only thing I'd add is make sure you have battery safety down pat. You need to know when to pull and replace the battery. When I first started with mech mods I would check the battery with a multi-meter frequently. Now that I know about how long they last I'll pull them and test them and 9 times out of 10 I pulled them at the right time. Once you get some experience under your belt you'll pretty much be able to tell by the vape you're getting. And even though I can do that, I still pull and test them just to be sure if I've had the battery in for a while and can't remember how much I vaped on that particular Reo. I've got two that I vape daily, and some days one gets more use than the other so it's a little more complicated, for me, as I don't really know how much I've vaped on a particular battery. Very easy to pull and test and if the battery is still within the limits I like I put it back in, otherwise I change it out. Like I said, I can tell by the vape but I'd rather know for certain what my battery voltage is. Don't want to leave home with your Reo vaping well only to find out 2 hours later that your battery is low and you're still 6 hours from home. (Of course you can always take a fully charged one with you just in case...)

I'd also recommend getting more than 2 batteries. With just 2 if you forget to charge the one you pulled and the second goes your out of luck. I like 4 per Reo but that's a personal thing. Tell you what though, I've never been caught with my pants down and no charged battery waiting to replace the one I just pulled.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Welcome and enjoy and definitely ask for advice/help when you need it. We're here for you!

Hail, and welcome to it! What everyone else said, basically YES. You could get other things to start on, but if your level on commitment to quitting analog cigarettes is high, then you might as well get great gear to start with! In the long run, you'll save money not buying other inferior products.

Keep in mind also, should you ever have a problem with your REO, always come to the forum and ask lots of questions, plenty of fellow REOnauts around at all times of the day to help you out!

Thank You again for the great advice everyone.
One of the forum members is sending me a loaner Reo to try out.
I am excited about this. And now I have no excuse not to quit.
I will be watching the videos and reading all the different posts/threads I can find.

I am very impressed how helpful and friendly everyone is here.
Thank You.
