Newbie Schedule for beginnging Vaping & diminshing nicotine entirely

Hi Guys. This is my first post. For the last couple of weeks I've been coming here each day and trying to source as much information as possible to come up with a plan of attack to deal with my mother and I addictions to cigarettes.

Reading here alot of users seem to become quite comfortable with vaping nicotine and speak at great lengths about the health benefits they have received from vaping. This sounds brilliant. But we don't plan to continue vaping nicotine forever. We want to ween ourselves off it entirely after a certain period as our addictions, based on previous quitting experience, are more around force of habit then physical dependence on nicotine. So over the past week or so I've tried to develop a plan for us to ween ourselves off it entirely.

I understand that it may seem like a pretty big initial cash investment for starters and technically it might be more advanced for beginners as well. But I have tried to work around all that by ensuring there is plenty of time to adapt and learn the methods involved with e-cigarettes (for anyone that has no idea about e-cigarettes, trust me, this forum comes across in a foreign language initially) and that my mother and I find the method and e-cgiarette an accomodating replacement rather then a burden.

What I am looking for, if possible, is for pro's to take a look at this schedule/list and see if they think this is feasible for a beginner. Money isn't the issue. It's more a case of do you think this plan could be implemented and carried out by 2 people who smoke a pack a day at present.

Initial Outlay
e-go Tank starter kit x 2
50ml 18mg tobacco flavoured juice x 2
250ml 18mg flavourless juice x 1
500ml VG x 2
Assorted flavoured juices x 15
Spare cartridges x 40
Assorted 10 ml mixed bottles/drippers and labels

Based on discussion here I'm approximating our usage at around 4 cartridges a day. And I've read the e-go T cartridges hold 1.1ml each in them.

Schedule (the schedule will be the same per person)

Week 1 (Quantites listed are at consumption per day so have to be multiplied x 7)
3 Cartridges of 18mg tobacco flavoured juice
1 Cartridge of pre mixed 18mg assorted flavoured juice

Week 2
2 Cartridges of 18mg tobacco flavoured juice
2 Cartridges of pre mixed 18mg assorted flavoured juices

Week 3
1 Cartridge of 18mg tobacco flavoured juice
3 Cartridges of pre mixed 18mg assorted flavoured juice

Week 4 and 5
4 cartridges of pre mixed 18mg assorted flavoured juices

Week 6 and 7
4 cartridges of pre mixed 11mg assorted flavoured juices

Week 8 and 9
4 cartridges of pre mixed 6mg assorted flavoured juices

Week 10 and 11
4 cartridges of pre mixed 2mg assorted flavoured juices

Week 12 and onwards (or until habit breaks)
4 cartridges of 0mg assorted flavoured juices. . . .

With the size of the initial downlay on products I'm trying to cover 12 weeks minimum of stock for both my mother and I without having to re-order. I understand that heavily favoured/disliked flavours may rear it's head at some point into it. But I figure ensuring we have ample tobacco flavoured juice and flavourless juice at start up means we won't have to worry about running out midway and reverting to ciagrettes again. Plus buying in bulk is always cheaper.

I would definitely be greatful for any assistance, advice or criticism on the above if possible before we go and purchase all the products and get started. I've tried to put as much thought into it as possible. But obviously you learn far more from experience. And right now I have nadda.

Thank you.

That is WAY too much VG for tanks. What do you intend to do with the VG? If you plan to cut juices with it then a. you will lose flavor and b. the juice will get too thick for tanks or cartomizers. I think you should cut with PG instead and maybe a small amount of VG for the enhanced vapor (but I think no more than 30% in tanks). Probably be easiest to buy 3 parts PG and 1 part VG and mix those to make 75pg/35vg liquid for diluting your nic liquids.

Ego T uses tanks. As I understand it... The small ones are around 1ml. The large ones which only fit on the larger T atomizer are 2ml.

Did you say why such a tight schedule? I dropped when my mind and body said "ok it's cool to drop now" which was at about 3 months for the first drop then subsequent drops at about 3 week intervals.

Very aggressive schedule. Good luck with your path.

Only thing I would caution, besides the truth that Dormouse posted, is that it is very typical to not like what you think you will like with juices. That is the main reason there are so many people telling newbies to order small quantities of various flavors. (And different strengths...)

And with the implied above, the nicotine levels that work for 2 people with the same smoking habit are not always identical.

You have made some assumptions based on no personal experience and have plotted a path based on that when the whole process is very subjective. If that works for you, that's great.

Congrats on forming a plan. Also congrats on having the wisdom to post it for suggestions, as I'm sure you'll pick up several things you haven't thought about. My only advice is to mix in small quantities and go slow. I've found that I don't like vg very well. It mutes or changes the flavor to much to suit me. But that's just me and the important thing is what works for you. Good luck and vape on! :vapor:

Thanks for the reply dormouse!

"What do you intend to do with the VG?" - Was definitel planning on using it to cut juices. From what I'd read, to cut juices it was a 45% nicotine juice/45% VG and 10% flavour.

What's the difference between a tank and a cartridge?

If I was going to cut juices for a tank, would I have to use PG instead or is there a different way?

"Did you say why such a tight schedule?"

The plan was mainly to ween ourselves off the nicotine over 3 months. I figured 3 months is a pretty lenghty time to ween ourselves off it. The first 4 weeks are to substitute the standard tobacco taste we are used to with flavours and then the next 8 weeks to ween the nicotine.

Thanks for the advice/input Hoosier and JD1.

I've noticed 2 of you have now mentioned that it is a tight schedule. I thought it was loose considering it was over 3 months (i'm basing it on regular quitting periods for cigarettes) but I'd have to take your words for it. I guess that was why I looked at getting 250ml of the 18mg juice as that should last quite a long period of time and give my mum and I ample time to re-order if we can't ween ourselves off nicotine.

"How many times have you quit smoking?" - My mother has smoked for 40 years and quit 3 times. Once for 6 months, once for 1 1/2 years and once for 3 years.

I've smoked for 10 years and quit twice. Once for 6 months and once for 1 1/2 years.

Hi Mader45 and welcome to the forum. You may also wish to search out the aussie vapors forum located in Australia of course for support as well if you have not already. It is quite an aggressive schedule and the fear is that it may apply too much pressure on you to go ahead and quit.

Personally I would be looking at starting to vape as a first point, rather than tying yourself to a very aggressive schedule. If for some reason that doesn't work for you you then also have the feeling of failure to deal with, and that can actually be a worse setback overall. Start vaping and when you are comfortable, you can then begin to reduce your nic content, eventually down to 0 is that is where you are looking to fo with it.

As always JMHO.

Thanks Hoosier. I appreciate your comments. It's really hard to make a plan for this as coming from an outside pov, I have no idea what to expect so I am trying to cover as many bases as possible with enough juice, flavours and a decent kit to start off with. I understand it may be a bit much for a beginner. But I'm also lazy. So the ability to just make up a massive amount of batches and leave it for a while as I adjust to vaping seems far more pleasant then running around buying new flavours, creating recipes and worrying if i'm going to get packages in time.

Off topic but I've noticed vaping looks to have turned some people into veritable flavour chemists. Gotta wonder if any of that has translated into some great food recipes as well.

"I tink you should cut with VG instead and maybe a small amount of VG for the enhanced vapor (but I think no more than 30% in tanks). Probably be easiest to buy 3 parts PG and 1 part VG and mix those to make 75pg/35vg liquid for diluting your nic liquids".

Thanks for that info dormouse.

I would have to assume the first VG in that paragraph is meant to be PG?

Would that mean I am better off buying something like 400ml of PG and 100ml of VG for making the flavoured juices?

People find Ego T tanks do not wick well with thick juices. I am pretty sure they use 30% or less VG for good wicking, but at least some to deter leaking. If you buy as your cutting juice an amount of Vg and 3x that amount of PG then you could easily make a 75pg/25vg cutting juice which will never make your liquids too thick for tanks, no matter how much you cut them.

That said - I do not use tanks. So check with people who use them. I think 45% VG is too much for tanks.

Instead of 1000ml VG consider buying 250ml VG and 750ml PG. Then mix 3 parts PG w/ 1 part VG to make a bottle of 75pg/25vg and use that for thinning your juices.

What I think is most aggressive is starting to cut your nicotine before your body even has a chance to really get the 4000 cigarette chemicals out of your system. I definitely was not ready to drop my nic in the beginning. I was still having some analog cravings. I had not found flavors with aromas that made me relax, I had not quite realized that food flavors made my analog craving worse. Once I figured that stuff out, found juices I liked and was very comfortable vaping, had spare batteries and chargers at work and PTs so I would never have a battery emergency again - then I felt confident to drop my nicotine. The dropped nicotine was not much problem at all once I was fully comfortable vaping and the cigarette chemicals that make nicotine more addictive were fully out of my system. Maybe the rest of your schedule would be fine. I am mainly wary of the first drop and the rigidity of the schedule.

I am really impressed with how thought out your plan is, very smart!

For me, 7-8 weeks was the right time to step down the nicotine. I got up one day and the phone was ringing and I realized over an hour later that I hadn't vaped. Of course I made up for it later, but I could have never done that with smoking.

Good luck!
