Hi there!
I've lurked at this forum for months and finally jumped in and purchased a kit from Cignot, and that was the end of it. Hooked, obsessed. You know the rest.
I thought I'd put together a few tips for the so-new-I'm-trying-to-figure-out-how-to-put-the-cartridge-in vaper, being one and all.
1) Will vaping Work for Me?
Husband hated it the moment he tried it and I loved it. I think the big reason was because I was crazy-mad to try it before I ever ordered one and must have read up on it for months before jumping in whereas he was more non-committal and didn't chase it down at all. By the time I actually bought one, I was determined to like it. Hell, I liked it before I ever tried it.
In other words, if you're reading this thread and have not bought one yet, then there's a good chance you'll take to it like a babe to milk.
2) What Not to Expect
It's not a cigarette. The obvious 'Doh' factor notwithstanding, you have to approach it as a whole new 'smoking' experience, not unlike trying a clove for the first time. I personally have not found anything to really taste like tobacco, but I could care less because IMO, vaping actually tastes better.
Having said, if you liked flavoured cigarettes at all, you'll pee with joy.
3) Best Place to Start
Cignot.com, in my opinion. They were consistently recommended time and time again as being easy to work with, super cheap and willing to fix problems as well as speedy-super-fast. I was able to but the 62.00 kit which included two atomizers, two cartridges and the USB passthru, plus flavors. I am utterly satisfied. I don't work for the company or have any affiliations, I'm just a satisfied customer.
P.S. Don't even think of not getting a USB passthru. It allows you to vape while plugged in to your PC, thus saving precious battery life.
4) Best System to Start With
Joye510. But this is also the only system I own. However, it was very intuitive, worked right out of the package and I didn't have to futz much. You need that advantage as a beginner, IMO.
Also, you'll need more batteries than you think. I have four now and can leave the house without panicking. And I've only been vaping 2 weeks.
5) Best Flavors
I bought the USAMix (did not like) and the RY4 (did like) as well as Vanilla (did not like), Chocolate (did not like) and Hilton (did not like). My problem was that I have apparently less sensitive taste buds than the average camper. This makes sense as I like strong and unusual flavors such as capers, anchovies and clove. And coffee black as the Pharaoh's heart.
In other words, most of these did not taste like anything to me. Yes, there was a 'flavor' but it was barely discernible. At times, it tasted like burnt coffee and occasionally ammonia (more on that later).
When I finally tried the RY4, I knew I had something. There was a definite Mapley taste not prevalent in the others. I was elated to find something that actually had taste!
6) PG vs. VG
I started with PG, and then this week tried VG. I far prefer the VG although it seemed nearly everyone else liked PG.
PG seems to me to be more likely to get the ammonia-burnt coffee taste. I vape pretty heavy, and now know ways to avoid this, but I was fairly sold with the VG out of the box. It's sweeter, smoother, lots more vapor and tastes better. To me, anyway.
7) Burnt-Coffee-Ammonia Funk
This was the one thing that made me nuts, and the one thing that would have been preventable if I had just known a few things from the start. My bloody vape would for no reason, taste like 2 day old gas station coffee and smell like a wino on a 6 day binge. Here is what I found.
a) Keep the cartridge slushy-wet. Likely every 20 puffs it needs a few drips. When it gets dry, it gets rank.
b) The filler material should be level with, and not below, the cartridge. Apparently this allows the wick direct contact. THis single trick fairly cleared up my burnt atty taste, as I intuitively thought that filler SHOULD NEVER touch the wick, and so kept poking it down.
Don't do that, btw.
c) Clean the filler. I clean mine once every day, maybe two. Now I'm at the point where if I taste the funk, I just clean it out. That generally resolves it.
8) There is no perfect case.
So it is your duty, as a new vaper, to find one and report it directly to me.
I've seen some fairly good ideas, but nothing that holds my liquids, carts, atomizers and all of the various accoutrements which is also attractive (meaning not looking like some utilitarian, industrial mantote). I'm a Libra and a girl, after all.
9) Vapeboxes come close.
I have not yet broken down and bought one, but they are schweet. In fact, the only reason I started this post was to comment on that thread, and then discovered...
10) You have to post a minimum of posts in the Newbie Thread.
So here I am. Feel free to comment to fulfill your own quota as well.

Addendum: You do have a lot of money and time to spend for the next month, yes?
All I'm saying is be nice to the Mailperson.
