Hey there. I am new here, not for myself and I'm surprised there is such a close community here! I am looking for help for my mom, who does not have a computer but is interested in e-cigs. I wanted to help her so I found this forum on google.
Can you guys buy e-cigs locally? Or are they online only? I live on an island in Canada and I am only a student so price is a big issue. I wanted to get her one for her birthday- how long does the liquid last? Are there any problems with the batteries? How long do they last typically? Are there any filters? Are the nicotine liquids recommended for starters?

If I come up with anything else I'll ask, in the meantime I'll browse the site :)

** Oh, btw, my name is Amanda- I'm NOT a troll! We live in Newfoundland and my mom has been smoking forever, I just want her to quit. She wants it too.

Hi and welcome to ECF Amanda. How much and what type of cig's does your mom smoke? Is she at home a lot or out and about?

You can buy e-cig's and supplies locally if there's a shop close but very few people are that lucky. Most everybody buys online.

How long the liquid lasts depends on how much you vape, average is around 3 ml/day.

Some batteries give problems, but the ones people recommend on ECF are usually the best models available and don't have nearly as many problems as others out there. How long batteries last is dependent upon how much you vape, the size of the cells, and how well it's taken care of. Smaller batteries don't last as long as bigger ones because you have to charge and discharge them more often.

If your mom smoked tobacco she'll probably need nicotine juice, but the strength depends on how much she's used to getting through smoking.

I don't understand your question about filters since e-cigs don't use them, they use cartridges to hold the juice. You don't need filters because there aren't really any bad things in vapor to filter out. When you vape you're making water, carbon dioxide, and a bit of carbon.

Good advice from CSkent. Not knowing what or how your Mom smokes, I will just suggest one of the best beginner models which is the eGo or Riva 510 manual model. Get an extra atomizer, some blank carts and 2-5, 5ml bottles of different flavors to give her options. For most smokers to make the transition to vaping, I would suggest getting 3 of the bottles in 24mg nicotine strength and 2 in 18mg strength. Liberty Flights is having a 20% off sale currently and you should be able to get her a starting kit for about $40. Here is their web site: Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

Good Luck

Not sure what kind of convience stores are available to you but here in Virginia (US) they recently started selling NJOY brand ecigs at the 7-11. 7-11 is a popular convienience store here. The NJOY, though I do not know much about them, sell for $9 for a disposable model that is one complete cig and once it is used up you toss it. They also have a "starter" that runs about $20 (US). I think they only have regular and menthol and the carts are prefilled. If you can find something like that there it might be a good cheap way to see if your Mom would like to invest a little more for something else.

OK
I started out looking at the blu (the pretty pcc caught my eye, what can I say I like shiny things) then got super irritated and cancled my order when I recieved the juice and stuff I ordered to go with it before the people at blu had even processed my order. I ended up doing a lot of forum trolling and settled of the joye 510 because it was cheaper than the ego and I wasn't quite ready to shell out the extra cash not knowing for sure I would even end up using it. I liked the 510 but not the battery life.... I ordered my ego about a week later.

from what I've heard and read most of the really cheap ecigs out there pretty much suck. I haven't personally tried any of them, but people around here that I let try my 510 or ego are usually shocked after having tried the ones they sell at the quick shops here. I know what it's like to be strapped for cash, but I'm not sure buying a super cheap starter is a good idea. I'd hate for you to get something utterly horrible and be put off of e-cigs all together. so with price in mind what kind of range are you talking about?

there isn't a filter exactly but theres a filter looking part on some. there are several different kinds of e-cigs some are 2 piece (cartomizer, and battery) the cartomizers hold a filler for e-juice and the atomizer in one piece. You fill it with juice and screw it to the battery. Some are 3 piece (cartrige, atomizer, and battery) the atomizer screws onto the battery. You fill the cartridge with juice, and it attaches to the automizer. as of yet I haven't worn out a cartomizer, but I wouldn't think they would last as long as an atomizer simply because the filler would wear out before
the atomizer inside. That said I love my cartomizers anyway!

batteries can last anywhere from a hour to a day before recharging, general rule is the smaller the battery the shorter it lasts, and the shorter it lasts between charges the more you rechage it. the more you rechage it the sooner it needs to be replaced. I heard automatic batteries can get messed up by eliquid flooding them if you drip directly on your atomizer or overfill your carts. So I I was scared to try them and got manual batteries 1st (they have a little button you push instead of activation when you suck on it), and now I know I would totally flood them so it worker out well for me!

as for the liquid it's a lot cheaper to buy the liquid than the prefilled carts usually and not terribly hard to fill a cart or carto, though I've heard some are harder to fill than others. If she really likes it she can even get into making her own flavors (yay for playing mad scientist!)

How much would your mother care about the look of an e-cig? Would it bother her if it didnt look like a normal cig? How much does she usually smoke?

Thanks guys! Gee, all that is real helpful! I will write down those and talk to her about it. I would assume she would prefer it to look most like a reg cigg so she don't look weird (eye roll) she's very concerned about that.
Thanks about the filter info! I just figured the vapor had to go somewhere! lol, I'm such a noob.
There are tonnes of corner stores and smoke shops here bc Newfies loves ther' 'mokes! I can make the call around and do some talking with people there, I will also check out the website you gave me for the prices. I already told her I will only get it if she's serious about it, otherwise I would be flushing my money on her again. She wants to know all the details before getting it. Thanks guys!
