Firstly i would like to say a big HELLO.

I stopped smoking about 3 months ago, i haven't given into cigs yet but it has been tough recently. Moving job and a few other factors have led me close to wanting a ciggie even although i know how much healthier i feel.

My wife and i both stopped together and are both stopped today but in the same boat ie would love a smoke  .

I had mentioned the e cig esp njoy to my wife as from my readings online i seemed most impressed by their product, we had considered getting one for when we were having a drink.

Well my wife tells me the other day i decided to order one of those njoy ..

It seems strange for an ex smoker to be concerned about how safe an ecig is since you are not ingesting smoke but i am .... has anyones doctors commented on the safety of such products esp the njoy? I have read the study from New Zealand however i was not convinced by its neutrality.

I would love to hear from you all. Thx.

E-smoking is so new that most doctors are unaware of it. The New Zealand study is unbiased, I assure you. I've corresponded with Dr. Laugesen for a magazine article. He is free to report whatever his research discovers, although funding does come from Ruyan. This is not an unusual arrangement. Dr. Jim Loi in Malaysia is also testing these on a large scale. He is not funded. Read all of the posts in the health section of this forum.

Life has no guarantees. But this is assuredly safer than continued tobacco smoke inhalation. Congrats on kicking cigs. I've been off 10 months today.

Me too!

Just got my 1st one yesterday... Bloody lovely!

a little background: i am a medical researcher. i combed the net for ANY reason not to try these. Like you, i quit smoking a month ago but kept jonesing for a cig... not the nicotine (hell, that is gone in 72 hours) but for the FEEL of relaxing with a smoke. The stress moderator of taking a break from a crappy moment with a smoke. The simple pleasure of driving with a smoke in my hand...

As of right now, i am 100% convinced that this will allow me to stay away from tobacco (and we already know the risks there...) for the rest of my life. ;)

Browse the medical forum--lots of good reading there.

BTW-- i opted for zero nicotine... like me, you and your wife are nic free right now. if you can, stay away from the addictive stuff and just recapture the feeling.

Jarvis, we have discussed the impact of these substances in the lungs. Much copy in the most important section on this forum: Health and Medicine. The main chemical in the liquid is propylene glycol. It delivers the nicotine to the lungs and then breaks down to lactic acid, the same stuff your muscles produce when you exercise. Your body easily handles and excretes the lactic acid.

Nicotine does have some concerns, also discussed in health. But our best research doctors believe e-smoking is basically not harmful. You will suffer more consequences from stress than e-smoking. So don't worry!

I'll second the previous posts. I can't speak too much about the medical effects and all I know is that some doctors, as per posts on here, mentioned they would start recommending these things to their patients. I can't say if the majority or a small minority are receptive to e-cigs. All I can really speak to is myself. I haven't smoked a cig in 6 days now. I have improved lung function almost the next day i quit. I noticed this playing 2 sets of tennis after going 2 days without a cig, only e-cigging. I could go without losing my breath between points. 5 days later, I played 3 sets. During the 3rd set I was serving and volleying. I don't know if that means anything to you, but it is very exhausting because you run after each serve straight to the net rather then serving the ball and standing around and waiting for the other player to return your serve. Basically, it requires significantly more stamina and while i was smoking regular cigs I could only do this a few times in a row. I did it for virtually the entire third set without running out of breath. This is an amazing improvement for me. This is really all I can say about the effects. I haven't felt anything negative except for an occasional urge to find a regular cigarette (though very mild and quickly goes away) and the occasional taste of liquid in my mouth from a bad refill. Oh, and a little bit of clearing of my lungs via slight coughs or grunts. One more thing, my mouth doesn't get dry like it did when I smoked, reason enough to quit lol. Good luck with your e-cig venture. Hope you succeed. :p
