The package arrived today - yippee.

All in all I am happy with it, though my first mod was to find a pipe stem that fitted the inhaling tube - this is much more comfortable than the standard model.

So far I've tried tobacco in it and menthol e juice at strength 8 mg.

The first try out was with some old Winner Red I had lying about that I'd drizzled in glycerine overnight. On its own this started out a bit thin tasting, so carefully added a small amount of Black Pigtail pipe tobacco (sometimes called Black Twist I think). By small I mean a single leaf layer's worth of less than the size of a 5 penny piece. This instantly improved the taste of the vaping - though I'm vaping this mixture like I would smoke a pipe.

The next try out was vaping the e juice with lung inhaling. Three drops of 8 mg menthol onto the cotton wool (organic) was too powerful, but 6 or 7 drops of glycerine soon sorted things out very well indeed.

Now I've got a fuller chamber of Winner and Black Pigtail vaping and the Iolite is performing much better - maybe it's happier to have been running for a while, or maybe there is some detail of the way I've filled the chamber that improves things.

I've been using the Iolite for three hours now and have just lit up my second thin roll up of normal tobacco. Whilst other vapers might see this as defeat, I see it as a downight miracle as my usual consumption of Golden Virginia is around the 40 gram a day.

My future plans include a selection of hookah pipes of varying lengths so I can make the Iolite a hands free device, and some molasses will be on order soon. Also want to try a Janty stick for portability.

This machine responds better to pipe tobacco than cigarette tobacco - the cigarette tobacco and vg seems to give a peculiar wet cardboard taste, though this might go if I persisted with it.

Instead of persisting with just ciggie tobacco and vg I'm adding slightly more of the black pigtail, which punches through with a lovely liquorice taste. Perhaps adding liqourice flavour would help this along.

This time I used gauloise and just put drips of vg on it in the chamber, then surprised at how little of the taste came through gave it some black pigtail again - perhaps some gauloise left overnight drizzled with vg will help with this lack of taste, I was expecting to be whisked back to memories of Paris.

Less extreme nicotine heads might try a pipe tobacco like amphora or one of the perfumed ones like Clan, though I bet Condor would work very well.

There's definitely a way in which the Iolite peaks and becomes luscious, but it's not easy for me to get at this quality at the moment - remember I've only been at it for five and a half hours though and this may be down to inexperience.

Another mod, which is a bit nutty but works, is that I've put up a music stand next to my computer with the Iolite loosely clamped to it so that the extended mouthpiece is in my mouth as I type. The weight of it is far too much to hang out of your mouth as you do things, and at the first opportunity I want to get sorted with a hookah pipe of some kind.

This machine is a highly nifty little nicotine delivery system that is going to be very cheap to run, and I'm starting to feel affection for it, even for the strange little sounds it makes as if someone is pressing clothes in the distance.

Taa Crash, have had a good look at the video reviews over the last few days and very helpful they were - thanks very much for yours.

The Iolite is hissing away on some Ecopure stuff, 15 mg with added vg, and the machine is happy with this. I'm getting a taste very like a cigarette using a technique that is like smoking a pipe.

Have ignored all the mesh business, taken out the heat pin and stuffed cotton wool in it.

Anyway, better start a blog on me and the Iolite as we are starting to get pretty serious about each other (She's hot!).

Thanks - things are going very well with the Iolite, have made a few discoveries and have got it vaping lusciously on e liquid, which I'm enjoying more than vaping tobacco at the moment.

Just because I'm in love with it doesn't mean it's perfect though, I'd like to see a pipe mouthpiece available as a standard extra. It's not just the length of the one I'm using that helps, but the bulk of it also absorbs some of the heat.

Anyway, will get blogging soon, I've lots of thoughts on the nature of my addiction and the weird fear that I may eventually end up giving up smoking by accident (gulp!)

This modern stuff's not PROPER smoking like we had when I was a lad though.

My lungs have withstood 38 years of Golden Virginia, Samson and Old Holborn, and my father's still smoking at 83, I tried him on an e cig but they weren't his thing. I don't think there's any rush in my case

More and more getting the hang of e liquids, every vape's a good one now.

Ah - the penny has just dropped about joining groups and being able to post, so have joined this group.

Things going very well indeed with the Iolite, herbal molasses (liquorice flavour) with e juice dripped on it is extremely pleasant.

When using tobacco in it I've started putting vg drizzled mild tobacco up into the herb chamber bit that comes out when you pull the top off, and have found that cotton wool with e juice on it works if inserted in this chamber - though you have to make it loose enough to allow enough airflow.

Same with the molasses, I make a little parcel of aluminium foil and push it up into the chamber - as well as putting a small aluminium foil drip tray in the bottom part.

The Iolite vapes nothing like the way a cigarette smokes, but I'm very happy with this as I am used to pipe smoking and enjoy the messing about that the Iolite demands.

What's bad about the Iolite?

It isn't robust enough to take on a night out, it looks like it wouldn't survive being dropped on concrete. It would be ideal for camping though.

The joint where the inhaling pipe meets the body is a plastic and metal combination (grrr). It doesn't look strong enough to take a shortened hookah hose or a heavier pipe mouthpiece - I'm going to talk to friend of mine with a lathe about making a mod.

good luck with that but if the whole thing was metal would it not burn your lips off since the plastic already gets so hot?
