Lorillard Inc. (LO) based in Greensboro, North Carolina, last year acquired Blu Ecigs for $135 million. Altria Group Inc. (MO) of Richmond, Virginia, has said it plans to introduce an e-cigarette later this year.
The title of this thread is misleading. Newport did not buy them, Lorillard did, and Blu became a subsidiary of Lorillard.
Big Tobacco is quickly infecting the ecigarette market:
- Altria (owns Philip Morris which owns Marlboro and other big brands): Markten
- R.J. Reynolds (owns Camel and other big brands): Vuse and RJ Reynolds Vapor Company
- Lorillard (owns Newport and some others): Blu
This is old news (about 2 - 3 months old). And there apprears to be nothing good from this change. BT is already backing legislation to limit how we vape to models/types (in design) to the ones they provide. So if you like sealed carts only on tiny stick batteries, tobacco flavor only and no online sales, you will be fine.
I thought this happened a long time ago

i think it a bad idea because i use a provari but when people ask me what i thought of getting a blu as a starter kit to lessin there smoking habit i always replied it not a bad brand to start off with but would usually recommend a ego but the blu was easy for them to get because it was at so many gas stations.i was wondering what if any good could come from this because i couldnt think of one
There are a couple of threads about RJR introducing their e-cig that kind of go into the issues you're asking about here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...e-electronic-cigarette-but-will-any-good.html and here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-discussion/427400-fox-friends-interview.html
In a nut shell, the big concern I and a couple of others have expressed is that with BT getting into the market, they'll make sure that they are the only legal suppliers of nic juice. We can all build our own mods if we need to, but if the only way to buy nicotine is in their pre-filled carts we're screwed.
