Hi All,

I am looking to take my next steps in vaping and getting a mech mod. Can anyone point me to some good resources or videos for mech mod beginners? I know the world of mech mods is complicated (and dangerous) so I want to do some research before I get my first mech mod.

Thanks all!

Hi All,

I guess your first question should be why are going to a mech mod? I was under the impression that by moving to a mech mod that I would be upgrading and getting more vapor etc. After some research I found it that unless you plan on making your own coils and going sub ohms vv/vw devices are just as good. From my understanding the main reason to going to a mech mod is to start using sub ohm coils. Most regulated mods won't let you go below a certain ohm resistance. The other reason I've heard is that they are easier to repair and if you drop in water they aren't ruined. You just dry them out and put in a new battery...there is no chip in them that gets destroyed.

I guess only reason I ask is I fell into the mech is an upgrade...but found out it really isn't unless I want to build my own coils and do sub ohms. Which I probably will eventually. It's a toss up between that and DIY as to what I dabble into first ;)

Mech mods, as others have stated, come with their own array of safety procedures that should be followed 100% of the time and if you haven't done any reading yet on the stickies on this forum for battery and general mod/rda safety then please do so before purchasing. Mech mods are very simple (metal tube, 2 contacts) but they have no protection unlike VV/VW devices.

Battery safety is the main concern with mech mods as we use unprotected batteries. If you are considering rebuildables (which you will get the most bang for your buck vape quality wise if you go rda/rba/rta+mech or just a tank with a rebuilt head. Vaping on something like a vivi nova and a mech is just fine but you might not get the most ideal vape...anyyyyyyyywho if you are considering rebuildables look into getting something simple to start with (youde's igo line is a great starter place, I love my igo W and igo L) also the smoktech octopus is a fantastic cheap rda(I HIGHLY recommend drilling an extra air hole for better airflow as the stock airflow is trash) and will give you a great vape.

Head over to the few mech mod threads we have going on the APV section and read up! You can get a mech for pretty cheap (30-70 bucks). I recommend the Hcigar 1:1(meaning close to the authentic original version) clones. I have 2 sitting infront of me; the copper and gold ring style nemesis. They are fantastic mods and I picked up the both up from my local vape shop: 49 for the gold ring and 60 for the copper. You can get these cheaper online, but nothing beats going to a brick and mortar and getting a hands on experience with it and being able to talk to someone who has, hopefully, a good bit of knowledge on vaping.

Best of luck!

You should 110% check out ripptrippers on YouTube. He has videos showing you all the safety info, coil builds, reviews and most of all he is entertaining! For the type of mod defiantly check out the magneto and an igo-w for the rba. I got mine off eBay (from a trusted seller) for 50$ (mech and igow) plus free shipping! It's my first mech from vv/vw devices and I haven't touched my vv for about 2 months. Other people are right, they aren't exactly an upgrade but I will say I've never had a more consistent vape(out of 2 1/2 yrs vaping)

Where exactly are you in your vaping journey? Do you currently use a regulated mod? Are you vaping with and rba or rda on your regulated.? Becoming a competent builder before going mechanical is always a good step to take. One can quickly step up the vape game safely by using a Kayfun, flashi, or any other fine re-buildable atomizer. One can achieve great flavor and quantity of vape by using standard ohm builds in an rba. One doesn't need to go sub ohm to chase flavor and clouds. One you become a competent builder and have maxed out the capabilities of your regulated mod, then you can consider either mechanicals and sub ohm builds or a DNA30 mod. A DNA30 mod will push a standard ohm build as high as a .5 ohm build goes on straight mechanical mods.

Sure you can go mech, many have, and I have, but it should be done in a progressive manner. Your atomizer is the best way to step up your vape game.
