I need a little advice. I'm thinking about moving to a higher inside diameter coil (actually dual coils) in an attempt to get to the 0.1 threshhold for the dna 40. I plan on building dual vertical coils on a Veritas which is pretty roomy in terms of coil wraps. Right now I build on a 3mm ID screwdriver but I'm thinking about trying 3.5 or even 4mm so that I can use 28 instead of 30ga Ni200.

Can anyone tell me if they've built at this diameter and whether or not it effects the performance?

I think it was 10-11 wraps on a 3.5mm, 30 gauge, that gave me a 0.13ohm dual coil resistance. I'm not sure if I really like dual coils for the DNA40 or not. It's nice because it's more vapor but you need a higher wattage (sweet spot for me was 18.5watts) but it drains the battery so fast.

Big diameter coils don't effect perfomance but, you need to crank the power up if you're used to vaping minimal wattage on a single coil otherwise you won't reach vaping temp for a few seconds and your hits will end up airy/cool.

Okay I just rebuilt my dual coils in the HOBO 2.1 . Yea 11 wraps 30 gauge, pushed right up to the air-holes. On a 3.5mm coiling rod. 18.5Watts is real nice. I think I prefer dual coil to get a nice lungful. Can almost choke after a fresh drip! Not in a throat hit way but in a vapor rush way. It's worth draining the battery, that's why I have a backup device :).

Yeah, I've noticed the necessary wattage bump for dual coils too. It's kind of a pain, but here's the other thing. With the temp control and a single airhole like the Veritas, I think dual coils are better on the DNA 40. On an RDA like the freakshow (or possibly the Hobo [don't know, don't have one... want one!]), dual coils are overkill because the airflow is so massive.

So, I'll try the 3.5 and maybe 4mm and we'll see how it goes. Thanks for the help!

No problem at all :). Yea the hobo is nice for the airflow if you like lung hits. Rip trippers talks about great flavor with it on the DNA40 but I never really experienced that even with single coil and closing up the vents a little.

I've done dual coil builds on a marquis which has some similarities to the veritas. It hits great, and has less air-flow so mouth-to-lung and just lung inhales are nice. Love the reduced chamber. I'll have to try a veritas someday. Let us know how it goes!
