Trying to figure out what type of cartos to order with my Vapor King (KR808D-1). This is my first e-cig. I currently smoke Marlboro Lights (short) for the sake of comparison. I have been getting conflicting data.

Found this data:
In tobacco smoke, nicotine "rides" on small particles of tar. When the smoke with this nicotine/tar mixture gets to the lungs, the nicotine is absorbed quickly - nicotine reaches the brain about eight seconds after the smoke is inhaled. American cigarettes contain about 9 mg of nicotine, but because much of the nicotine is burned off, a smoker gets about 1 mg of nicotine in every cigarette
So that's 1mg per cigarette.

20 to a pack = 20 MG per pack

1 cartomizer ~ 1 pack of smokes (from what I understand)

Cartomizers at V4L come in 18 and 36 (in some cases 24)

I read elsewhere that Marlboro lights have only about 0.5MG of nicotine per cig.

But all this doesn't matter really! I just want to know what kind or cartos to get to avoid cravings. So...

What's the real deal? Give me some advise. What MG should I get in my first order? Did anyone switch from my brand?

Thanks very much in advance!

Puff, Puff, Puff, Nicotine Rises Gradually

Study finds gradual nicotine buildup, not a series of spikes after each cigarette puff

The Associated Press

By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID AP Science Writer

WASHINGTON March 8, 2010 (AP)

Nicotine builds up gradually in smokers' brains rather than spiking after each puff, according to a study that might help point to new ways to help people quit smoking.
Dr. Jed E. Rose of Duke University reports in Monday's online edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that nicotine buildup in the brain was gradual over several minutes.
Scientists have theorized that there is a spike of nicotine in the brain about seven seconds after each puff, but almost no measurements had been taken until now, Rose said in a telephone interview.
"We were surprised to find that the rate of uptake was much different from what one commonly hears," said Rose, who directs the Duke Center for Nicotine and Smoking Cessation Research, a part of the university's School of Medicine.
Rose used brain scans to measure the nicotine levels in 13 regular smokers and 10 people who smoke only occasionally, an indication they were not addicted to nicotine.
Maximum brain levels of nicotine were reached in 3 to 5 minutes, and built up slower in addicted smokers than in casual ones, the researchers found.

"This slower rate resulted from nicotine staying longer in the lungs of dependent smokers, which may be a result of the chronic effects of smoke on the lungs," Rose suggested.
"Now that we know there are not these spikes" that had been expected, Rose said, researchers may be better able to develop new approaches to help smokers get what they need from cigarettes, but in a way that's not addictive.
His laboratory, for example, is working on a mist inhaler to deliver nicotine without any combustion.
Still in question: Why do some people become addicted to cigarettes and others don't? The difference in the rate of nicotine buildup in the brain doesn't explain this, the researchers said.
The research was funded by the giant tobacco companies Philip Morris USA and Philip Morris International. The researchers said the companies had no role in designing or carrying out the research or analyzing the results.

Rose's findings confirm his earlier work on blood levels of nicotine, and "the brain is what really matters," commented Dr. Kenneth A. Perkins, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh who also studies smoking addiction.
The assumption was that a critical effect of smoking was a shot of nicotine with each puff, then another shot with the next puff, and so on, Perkins said.

"He is showing that, at least when you look at the blood and brain concentration levels, that's not really what's going on, it's much more gradual," Perkins, who was not part of Rose's research team, said in a telephone interview.
"Clinically, what you do with that, I'm not quite sure," he added.

Ok, there's no formula for this since we're seeing 1 PAD smokers using 24mg and 3 PAD smokers happy at 18mg and even 11mg.

For example I smoked 1 PAD Parliament Lights 100. Started at 11 mg, no way, didn't work. 18mg was better but I was edgy and still using analogs. 24mg did the trick. Since you asked, my advice for you as a new user would be to go higher, not lower, since if you have a lower nic level than you need you will not be able to fix that (without adding pure nic to your carto) and will end up chain-vaping. If you go a little higher you will get your nic level up and then stop vaping when you are satisfied.

marlboro can not be compared to ecigs or any other nicotine delivery system, they have been treated with extra ammonia to make them a stronger, more addictive drug than regular cigarette nicotine, kinda like heroine ( marlboro ) compared to morphine ( regular cigarettes )

"By the early 1960s, however, Philip Morris had also begun using ammonia to "freebase" the nicotine in cigarette smoke, creating low-yield (reduced-tar or -nicotine) cigarettes that still had the nicotine kick necessary to keep customers "satisfied" (i.e., addicted)."

isn't that interesting, people who try to quit smoking by gradually cutting down on nicotine are being poisoned by a more addictive freebase form of nicotine, isn't that a bit of a double cross?

Welcome, fellow San Diegan.

Cartos can be refilled. You're better off buying some empty cartos and juice and filling them yourself. You open up a lot more flavor options that way as most prefilled cartos are only available in a few flavors. Those things can get expensive over time too. Most people say a carto is good for 5-6 refills, but I was getting much more than out of my 808 cartos before switching to my eGo.

Great! This might be harder than I thought. I should have just stuck with reds.

I might give that a try. Know of any decent local juice vendors?

As a 1 PAD Marl red user, I tried the 16-18 mg carto. If I want a more Marlish boost I use a 24 mg carto, while using the 16-18 for general puffing away (e.g., at work I might vape the 16-18 a few puffs every half hour).
I suspect it's something to do with slightly slower uptake vaping, plus the lack of MAOIs in vapor, that make me prefer to go up one class in nic on the cartos if I want a more equivalent experience.

I only know of two places in SD that carry juice (but hey, that's a lot better than most people have).

The Vapure headquarters carry quite a few different flavors. They are over by the 8/15 junction. I've only tried one of their flavors - Dr. Pepper 24mg, tasty. Make sure you go to the headquarters and not the kiosk in the Mission Valley mall. The kiosk only sells starter kits from what I've read on here.

The Black down in OB carries a small selection of Johnson's Creek juice.

ps: Check out the Southern Cali Vapers Group.
